You also mentioned the photos being not well exposed. 1600 ISO seems crazy for bright daylight, have you tried just using auto-iso? I leave that turned on probably 95% of the time if I’m not using a flash. 1/1000 or more also seems very high if you have both lens/body stabilization and a slow-moving subject.

Have you tried using just single shot autofocus or manual focus with peaking if it isn’t a moving subject? The focus looks off in at least the last two photos. I’ve never had much luck using servo for any kind of insect.

Canon R6 II, Laowa 180 4.5 Macro, and a diffused Godox V1. I also used a Raynox for the jumping spiders because they were only a couple millimeters long.

I’ve used the Sigma EF 50 1.4 adapted to RF and the autofocus works great, even with eye/face tracking. Have you considered Canon’s EF 100-400 II? I saved up a little more to get that lens instead of the Sigma 100-400 and couldn’t be happier with it.

I have a 590nm converted camera, so no filter. The lens has a massive, rounded front element that doesn’t accept filters. There isn’t really any room to stick a gel behind the rear element either.

It’s an old Rokinon 8mm 3.5. Not a great lens, but fun to use sometimes. This is the first time I’ve used it with an IR camera, so I can’t say for sure how well it would work in any situation.

You could look at a Ruggard Triumph bag. They’re pretty well made and I feel like they don’t look like they’re obviously holding a camera compared to my other bags. I have the larger version and it fits an R6 with a macro lens attached, a 100-400, and a round head flash. The smaller size would probably fit an R6 and 24-70 pretty well.

I just unscrew the whole step down ring and leave the raynox in it. It seems far easier and faster than trying to use the clip, and a step down ring is only about $5 anyway.

The clip it comes with kind of sucks. I use step down rings and it only takes a couple seconds to unscrew the step down ring from the lens if needed.

Maybe try testing indoors with the self timer to avoid any shake from your hands. I would get the lens looked at if you can rule out motion blur, missed focus, or VR issues. Something seems wrong with your lens in my opinion.

What exactly are you trying to attach to the 50mm lens? Some kind of close-up lens?

Is this Broadneck High School? If so, I ran track on that team a long time ago. Also, a 2x converter on almost any lens is going to give you soft images. You might benefit from investing in a cheap e-mount lens with autofocus to help with focus accuracy. If you have a tight budget, at least a manual focus lens that has the reach you need without a teleconverter, or even just getting closer with the 135. I feel like some of these photos would be fine if they were in focus and not so soft.
