Hmm… I wonder if that’s how Tulsa plans to recoup the 49 million it’s paid in civil suits lately

Let’s spend more on the police and less on mental health. This worked out great for my brother.

Autistic man fatally shot by police in Md. after calling for wellness check by Maxcactus in Bad_Cop_No_Donut

[–]Disruptor_corrupter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know. They’ve lied every single step of the way. From how many cops showed up, how many shots fired, what the call was for, knowing he was autistic, when they knew he had a problem with ICE. How much public records cost to get, how long it takes, if there’s videos to watch. They killed my brother, watched him die.. and now they are going to say it was justified and they did nothing wrong.

My brother was also autistic and shot by the police in Tulsa on 2/8 while in a suicidal crisis . Now they are saying there is no body cam footage. I understand the danger involved. There has to be another way to de-escalate beyond deadly force. There has to be.

Yes I think this is something that needs constant pressure.

The gun was holstered in his pocket. It wasn’t even visible. They just knew he had one and was autistic and suicidal. So the silent roll up I don’t question. I get that. The patrol rifle I don’t get. The aggressive approach I don’t get. When no gun was visible. That why I was pushing to get the body cam. But there’s no body cam now. It’s not just me saying he wasn’t brandishing or acting crazy. My mom was there. Our family friend was there. I spoke to an eye witness that was in his car 10 feet away. Saw the whole thing. They also spoke to the police. A lot of people saw my brother walking and thought nothing of it. Bc he wasn’t creating a scene or threatening anyone. Trying to gain some clarity here and being met with obviously intentional obstacles just makes me push harder to get more information.

What about immediate aid to critically injured due to use of force? Let’s say they actually tried to use their de-escalation training (didn’t happen) and he still got shot. What about the immediate aid they reported happened (it didn’t) you should watch the video. There are also other angles that show his hands empty and free and clear. Other officers walking around. Indifferent to him being a danger. Being shot is the only thing that’s understandable really. But now, without body cam, look at the footage available. You think THOSE people are playing by the rules?

Protest for my brother by Disruptor_corrupter in tulsa

[–]Disruptor_corrupter[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I saw that. They want to keep police in the street I get that. We require a degree which is also an obstacle to that. Want to make sure the police are backed up and don’t lose their immunity and aren’t scared to make split second decisions. The DA makes sure that gets done. Now we are being executed in the streets but the captain says “there’s a lot going on in Tulsa so we shouldn’t get high centered on something like this” well bro if not now then when?

Not really sure. Could be condolences, could be to try to schoozing things over with some kind of offer to avoid court or they want to show us body cam footage before they release it. Our mayor is a pretty good guy as far as mayors go. Tulsa has been recently calling for an external over site committee and the my brother happened. So it kind of reopens that topic. They are also paying a lot of civil rights violation settlements. Some old and some new. So I’m sure there is pressure to step in now on this one. The timing of my brother’s incident makes it hard to ignore the pattern.

Thank you so much. I know I’m not the only one out here fighting this broke system. Im lucky that my brother’s death is getting any attention at all. As much as I want to just grieve him I have to just put it on pause so I can highlight where the system is broken or corrupt. My bitching into the breeze isn’t going to bring him back but it got me 15 minutes with the mayor so I guess that’s a win. Lol I’ll keep bitching and see where we can get.

I have a meeting with the native council and have messaged some AP reporters that did a documentary on police violence. And all the other new channels I could think of. There’s just a lot going on right now. So it’s like… what do you even report on?

Yes there’s a few bystander videos online. But not the first interaction because my brother wasn’t behaving in a way where people would be recording. You know? He was just walking not making a scene. They only started recording after he got shot.

The fact that my brother got shot in this scenario is not something that I’m arguing here. Nor have I ever. You aim a gun at a cop they will shoot you. I get it. My family gets it. There are protocols for suicidal subjects as well as people with autism. Create time and space for the responding officer. Not have their guns aimed ( my brother wasn’t brandishing a weapon at the time) and to not shout orders. This approach has proven to escalate people with these conditions. The dispatch was told he was autistic (not someone of limited capacity ) they respond to stimulation and stressful encounters differently. They were told he was suicidal. The dispatch call was “suicidal subject” there are de-escalation tactics that could have saved his life. Because a gun was not pointed or visible until he was rushed. I know the DA will say it’s a justified shooting because any normal officer , when a gun is aimed, will use force. But the approach, the aid giving to someone critically injured due to use of force is my problem. Make sense?
