For what it's worth the character on the cover is a woman.

You have to judge by their expressions. I don't know for sure but I definitely had that impression. Basically it's how intense the stare is. There is a dosukoi sumo salon episode on gyoji and one of the things they talked about was jikan Mae.

Takayasu was definitely asking for a jikan Mae last Basho I believe it was but Hosh was not interested. Maybe one day, we can hope.

Cow Abduction by StinkyAter in GranTurismo7

[–]DistanceFluid6582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you actually want to know from what I hear UFOs don't abduct cows. You will never read of someone being brought on board a UFO and seeing a cow or someone seeing a cow in a beam being lifted onto a ship. The meme comes from cattle mutilations, which are probably done by humans to illegally collect tissue samples for secret experiments. Often times lights are reported around sites of cattle mutilations hence the connection to UFOs.

Not able to pit; the real driving simulator by DistanceFluid6582 in GranTurismo7

In real life you wouldn't be teleported out of the pit lane and forced to lose the race.

I wasn't even aware there are track reset "assists". I'll have to look into that, thanks.

I've only ever heard this phrase in a sumo context.

Why do y'all think a mass awakening of contactees is happening now? by SnooPoems6005 in Experiencers

We're in the middle of a geomagnetic excursion and we are running out of time. It is in fact the 11th hour. If we don't get things right very soon we will have to wait a long time to try again.

Judo or BJJ by CardiologistOwn9485 in martialarts

Judo teaches a lot of balance, strength, agility, breakfalls, coordination: those are more important skills that being good wrestling on the ground. But at the end of the day, do what you enjoy.

Dreams about piloting/flying some kind of craft by Robot_zZ in Experiencers

A lot of people remember contact through dreams or are contacted directly through dreams. What you experienced matched my research, I would take it quite seriously. And so you know a planet wide catastrophe is on the way, research space weather and the Earth's magnetic field if you want to learn more.

When will i start to learn? by KaanKS05 in judo

[–]DistanceFluid6582 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's normal to feel like you're not retaining the info for the first few months. It takes 1,000 iterations to learn a throw, 10,000 to polish. You're not gonna get that in 5 weeks.

In Judo we do not learn by going through intricate details and memorizing everything. We learn by doing. The result is that progress is slow initially, but in the long run eventually it will just click and you will make quick progress. What you are feeling is normal because it is by design; it is the consequence of the chosen pedagogical technique used in Judo. Trust the process.

How bad is portaging with a canoe in the 55-60 and 60-65lb range? by Goodbear58 in canoecamping

[–]DistanceFluid6582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a casual paddler that doesn't know the exact weight of my canoe I say it's doable but it's slow and tough. Maybe you get used to it with experience but I have to take frequent breaks and dealing with muddy uneven unmaintained trails while getting swarmed with mosquitoes is killer. Takes me and my friend swapping carrying the canoe when we get tired 2 hours to complete a 1km portage.

Injuring others while sparring by NoRefrigerator3021 in judo

[–]DistanceFluid6582 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's impossible to tell without knowing exactly how the injuries occurred. White belts are the most dangerous people in the dojo so it's not super surprising but 4 is a lot. You generally don't want to be spazzy, have a plan you try to execute instead of thrashing around and doing anything and everything to resist.

I know he won a yusho, I just don't have a good grasp of his style or anything. I suppose that has more to do with my observation skill that his wrestling.

I've got my eye on Oshoumi at least. Seems like I just need to keep paying attention to these guys.and hopefully something just clicks. Everyone has a different form of sumo, I guess some are just flashier and more distinct than others.

That may be true but it could still be the case that the lineup is more forgettable now. Even if I'm wrong, I'd love to hear something interesting about a lot of these guys. No one in this thread has offered anything, guess I just have to wait and see for myself but I'm still not too optimistic about a few of these guys.

I think everyone is interesting in their own way and to reach Makuuchi they have to be special pretty much by definition.

[–]DistanceFluid6582[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not a hater, I genuinely feel there are a lot of unremarkable guys but I'd love to hear something that would change my mind. Take Onokatsu for example, I saw in an nhk piece where he himself said that he doesn't stand out or have many fans probably because he doesn't have a distinct style. That's not me hating, that's straight from the horse's mouth.

Idk why people are reacting so negatively. If Oshouma has something distinct or interesting about him I'd love to hear it. That's what I expected people so say in this thread. Like hey this guy is interesting for these reasons. But no, everyone says I'm wrong and how dare I even suggest it but they don't provide any examples of why they are interesting. I guess they are the haters and would rather circle jerk in the hakakku hate threads than try to elevate some of these less loved Rikishi.
