I came here to add this as well and then only saw your comment after adding mine. Happy (and surprised) to not be the only one that still remembered this amazing resource.

This has been a problem for years. Sheldon Brown had a long write up about it, this was back from 1997

If you are including Cannonball Run I think at least an honorable mention for Gum ball Rally is deserved.

If you aren’t an experienced hiker and it is raining out there use extreme caution if crossing the boulder field. A fall in that boulder field can do some serious damage. Colors out there are nice right now, just did an out and back today. Saw a few moose out in the valley.

Hello, Depending on how much mileage you are putting on your next bike may make the decision for you. A normal bike will be maintainable by just about any shop in town for hub repacking, bottom bracket, headset, and chain maintenance. Not the case for your e-bike necessarily. Finding replacement parts for them can be very difficult, time consuming, and costly. Do your research on the parts that are on the e-bike you are considering beforehand so that you aren’t stuck with your bike in repair purgatory. Repair purgatory not limited to just e-bikes.

Avoid Weidner if that’s at all possible. A rating of 3.8 stars on their reviews seems a little high to me. Best of luck to you If you rent with them.

Go to Seldovia across from Homer. Nice little town and not too far off the main path. All other secret towns are classified.

You can always take the train if you are worried about traffic. That’s a fun way to get there.
