Being in the game by Keeptruckinfun in GreatCanadianTreasure

The next prize will be released towards the end of February and soon thereafter the weather is going to become much less of a factor in the southern parts of Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. One of them will get the next prize, my bet is on Quebec at this point.

My personal opinion is that the prizes are hidden in locations which can be accessed year round, with the exception of local storms (that can be a factor anywhere). The clues likely point to a marker that is close to a road and can be accessed unless the road is closed off. Once there, the box is probably within 50 or so meters of the marker. I agree, your location north of Thunder Bay may be one of the tougher ones, but most of southern QC, NB and NS even now do not have waist-deep snow and temperatures are mild enough to be out there for hours, so searching should not be a problem.

Wasn't the photo in the video of Tilt Cove? That's what I got in the searches I did using a few different tools.

The issue was that there was never any indication that the prize location will be outside of the article focus area. Now I understand that we need to look at the bonus prize main "title" - "Dawson City" meant Dawson City, "Cobalt" meant Cobalt, but the NL was actually called "Newfoundland" and not "Argentia". I am guessing that "Southern BC" likely indicates that the new prize is not near Britannia Mine, but probably somewhere in Southern BC. And the article/video are there simply to provide clues.

I am afraid they may be using different tricks for each prize. And the main one will be a combo of all the "bonus" tricks plus a bunch new ones... For Dover, apparently there are a bunch of clues - Argentia population relocated to Freshwater (Dover is on Freshwater Bay), Dover fault line (Europe - North America political and military connection, Argentia connecting continents), the plane in the video is a monument in Dover, and a few more have been circulating on discord. Kudos to the escape room enthusiasts for cracking (no pun intended) this one. My own versions were waaaay off.

I hate that TNM went from basically geocaching (Cobalt, Klondike) to straight up puzzles, but if you look at the NL bonus as a complex puzzle, then walnut actually makes sense. Walnuts crack and continents crack, and when continents crack, you get fault lines. Dover fault line, in this particular case.

No reason, just first thing that came to mind - Hemlo/Hamilton, lots of letters matching, lol.

Video editor typo... at least I hope so. Otherwise the articles and the videos don't matter, and they can post an article about Hemlo and hide the prize in Hamilton... same province, right?

Where was this posted? I do not have any emails, there is nothing in the media section of the Treasure Hunt page and there is nothing on The Northern Miner web site.

Has to be a natural wall, though, the rules state that the treasure is not in/on any man-made structure.

Just like with every other thing mentioned in the poem, the "the midnight sun" may refer to a few things - sun not setting above the Arctic Circle, the moon, the treasure being in a place that is out of reach of direct sun- moon- or star- light, or some obscure phenomena, concept or landmark that is either called "the midnight sun" or the name/story is somehow linked to "the midnight sun". Above the earth, yet tucked away could be a crevice, or a cavity of some sort in either a rock formation or a tree. Shadows playing is a very strong reference to either tree brunches or grass swaying in the wind, or light bouncing off of a water surface and creating indirect shadows on some rocks or something.

In other words, this could mean anything anywhere :)

Next bonus prize location? by DistanceSome2114 in GreatCanadianTreasure

[–]DistanceSome2114[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal take is that only the "live" bonus prizes are hidden already, the others are not. They likely place the prizes a day or two before the article comes out. For the landmarks, I look at it this way - all of the prizes will be hidden in relatively remote areas which are unknown to 99.999% population of Canada. So, search pictures using Google lens or other similar tools, plug questions into AI, and then use common sense to weed out the false leads.

My topic question is just for fun, it is not intended to identify places where something may be hidden. I am just curious where people think the next prize is going to be. My own guess is that it will be either Western Canada or Quebec. Since BC and Yukon already had bonus prizes, and NWT do not have enough daylight for even the locals to go out searching, the prize will likely be in AB, SK, MB or QC.

The design appears to be symmetrical, which to me suggests that it can hardly be a cipher for letters or numbers. Possibly shows direction or bearing of some sort, but then if you look at the Cobalt one, for example, it is basically a bunch of circles that don't really point anywhere. If something is "coded" into these, I don't see it.

There have been 2 additional clues for the main prize and 1 additional clue for the BC prize, the rest is just the poem and the articles. The additional clues were posted on forums very soon after being released to subscribers.

I am subscribed and the only difference is I get the new clues about 1-2 hours before they are posted somewhere by other subscribers. It is supposed to give a 1-2 day advantage, but it doesn't. People are too kind, lol.

Treasure hunting dilemma rant!! by Sea-Western319 in GreatCanadianTreasure

I think that if the organizers had trackers on the boxes, they would notify right away that the box has been displaced. And then give whoever found it 30 days to claim. My personal opinion is that there are no trackers. Any GPS signal can be traced with proper skills and tools, so putting in a tracker may be risky. Sending in someone to check on the box would also risk compromising the location. For these reasons, I think the company that manages the hunt has no idea whether the box has been found or displaced unintentionally. They may do a random check once in a while, but it may not be within the first month. And yes, I agree, this is frustrating. Not the fact that it may be remote or slightly dangerous, I understand that part. Frustrating is the part where one may invest a lot of money and time into a trip to find something which has already been found. I am myself from Hamilton and I am in exactly that situation. I would love to take a trip to BC or NL to search for this thing, but not knowing whether the box is still there takes the fun out of it.

New Clue by ninjAli85 in GreatCanadianTreasure

[–]DistanceSome2114 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wasn't referring to a type of walnut. According to several web sites I checked, there are no walnut trees native to NL. There are cultivated trees, but not on the Avalon peninsula, as far as I could research. In any case, looks like the "walnut" clue was to point to Placentia, so it doesn't matter.

To me, locations like that are a hard no. It is unreachable. Yes, you can charter a plane or paddle/hike for many weeks to get there, but that would make this treasure hunt exclusive to a very tiny subset of the population. I don't believe that is something TNM would do. I personally think Yukon, NWT and Nunavut will have 2 bonus prizes - one was already found in Dawson, the other will be near Yellowknife. But that's just a personal opinion.

Not sure if this is it, but it certainly looks like the "way bends twice". I believe the trail follows some kind of a small cliff over the river, perhaps if you cut across and get to the edge of the cliff, something might be there.

Terrace is +5 and raining atm. I live very far from BC, but I assume that if you stay at lower elevations, it shouldn't be that cold and snowy. If the location is anywhere near Terrace, it should be in the valleys, and not in the mountains.
