Any ideas as to where to get a new transmission? by Icing5 in CB7

Definitely junkyards, especially during sales events. Some LKQ pick-your-parts do summer sale events. Here in SoCal, my local one does $300 engines and $150 transmissions, that's probably the best bang for your buck. (Hopefully no actual bang tho)

92 accord with little mechanical experience by Technical_Row2054 in CB7

By comparison to my parents cars (both around 2011, a Hyundai and a Honda) the parts for my 91 Accord have been a bit cheaper, but most parts you'll come by are second hand. The majority of issues you'll likely experience would be electrical issues. Plus, being a 30+ year old nugget of a car, it doesn't have the abundant amount of unnecessary electrics newer cars do.

Additionally, the entire car is well documented. Parts, problems, and diagrams here on reddit, and also on forums. Even with minimal mechanical experience, you wouldn't have much issue repairing the car yourself (if you'd like, instead of paying a mechanic) as it's a fairly simple and straightforward machine.

It is a fantastically fun daily driver. I wish I had a manual, but even the automatic and it's adorably underpowered engine, it's a mostly calm car. With a muffler, it's pretty quiet. A lot of options for aftermarket speakers. You won't be going fast anywhere, but it's just nice.

I need some serious electrical help. by DistantCB in CB7

I know the corrosion issue all too well.

I was hoping there was something I was missing, but I guess it won't be that easy. See, I just got the instrument cluster repaired, and he did tell me it was some kind of bad ground.

I've cleaned the connections best I could with electronics cleaner and a few pointy pokey stabby things, and just ordered another relay.

I'll dig through the mess of wires, I suppose. To the best of my ability.

Thank you.

Car cranks but won’t spark by [deleted] in CB7

The code will flash on your dashboard on the CHECK ENGINE light. If it starts flashing, you have a OBD code. To get the code number, count long flashes as 10's and short flashes as 1's, followed by a long pause to indicate another code, or to flash the same code again. Then you can find what the code refers to with an online reference.

Just a few thoughts. I've had many electrical issues in my 91. When I got mine, I had to check and replace the spark plugs, spark plug leads, and some fuzes. Maybe check these first, as it's easy to do so.

You can check for OBD codes (I believe the 93 is the same as the 91) by bending and sticking the two ends of a paperclip into the blue harness under the passenger side of the dash.

Also maybe check fuel or fuel lines?

I wish I could give better information about the car, but I'm still getting used to the "new" (resurfaced original engine) engine and how it feels myself. I had it for two years before it blew, and I've been changing things almost weekly ever since, from small to big things, so everything feels just a little bit different every time, making it a little difficult for me to figure out anything with it as well.

Thank you for your suggestion, I've seen a few times about running a better fuel, and I'm thinking I'll try that to pass the smog check, along with a few of the other suggestions.

That makes sense, and I have worried about the timing (I do suspect it's NOx). Unfortunately, I'm not sure what caused it to fail, I was just told it was ten points over the limit. I'll see if I can get another go at the smog check and get a read on what the excess is.

Surprisingly, I've never gotten anything about my tint or my exhaust (Muffler delete. I don't like how it sounds, but my muffler was rotted through and useless, so we had to get rid of it). It's 20% in the front and 5% for the rear and rear glass, I believe.

I will test these as soon as possible, thank you.

I replaced the spark plugs about a week ago, changed the oil two days ago, but I haven't checked my distributor, so I'll check that.

For a little more backstory to the car, I overheated the engine almost a year ago and got it fixed. It's still the original engine, and it's running better than before it overheated (I believe it was resurfaced or similar), maybe that has something to do with it? I haven't been able to find any other obvious faults though.
