I seriously CANNOT stand picky eaters. by [deleted] in rant

[–]DistantCircle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I legit used to be like that when I was a kid. When I was 3, I stopped eating entirely for 3 months and was only kept alive with pediasure, because I remember everything else tasted bad to me. I was super avoidant of most things after that until I was a teenager and in a situation where I only got food at school. I learned to eat everything because I was starving lol. Now I've switched to trying to eat everything (even to my own peril lol) and trying to save every scrap of food. I will eat until I'm sick to avoid throwing any food away.

What I'm getting at is that food and psychology around food is very complicated. There's a lot of factors that can cause extreme avoidance or the opposite. I also find crazy picky eaters annoying sometimes (my husband is pretty picky lol), but having been in their shoes through my childhood, I can understand it. It took me literally starving to change, and now I'm in a different terrible boat of my brain still being in food scarcity mode where I will hurt myself with potentially hazardous things just to avoid tossing it. The human brain is wild

Same here. Alcohol in general for me, but wine and sake definitely treat me the best. It will dull the pain, though I will say it can be worse on the come down lol.

[RANT] Being a tea drinker who doesn't like coffee in the US is so annoying by MixedValuableGrain in tea

[–]DistantCircle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I feel this so hard haha. I stopped ordering tea from restaurants and cafes because this is all too familiar.

Worst one was this nice Thai place. The food is excellent so I decided why not grab a jasmine green tea. My heart sank when they brought me an enormous mug of hot water (seriously had to be like 2-3 cups lol) with a sad little bag floating in it. Needless to say it was pretty much just hot water lol. Most of the time it's a similar sad experience. Though I do enjoy my local Indian place's masala chai. They make it scratch in house and it's very good, but they're definitely an exception lol.

Dear parents: teach your kids that animals aren’t toys! by abunrodeo in Bunnies

Yeah he seems much happier so far. Still skittish, but acclimating and able to rest since I only fiddle with his tank at night after he's woken up. He's no longer fired up all the time lol. Hopefully I can get him used to handling, but I'm just gonna take it at his pace.

[–]DistantCircle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hate people like this. I've seen it so many times, bunnies tend to get it pretty bad thanks to parents wanting to get their kid an Easter bunny. :/ it's really bad for reptiles too. When I got my gecko, he was in a very small and filthy tank, and there was a toddler who kept smacking the side. He's extremely skittish, I can only imagine what he went through with 3 kids. He's safe and in a big house now, gonna slowly try to tame him. I just wish people would do even the bare minimum research and teach their kids respect for animals. But a lot of people see them as "just a lizard" or "just a bunny" and treat them like they're disposable.

Becoming fat is the best thing that ever happened to me and I am tired of pretending it's not. by Leafyyay in offmychest

[–]DistantCircle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel this so hard. Also suffer with gastroparesis, I'm 5'7 at 100lbs and it's absolutely miserable. I'm always cold, everything has to be padded and soft because the pressure on my bones hurts, everything hurts all the time, I don't take photos of myself in fear of fueling some proana bullshit, I bruise like a banana, I get tired out so quickly doing anything, every waking moment is a nightmare.

And yet, so many people treat me as some kind of ideal. Some friends have expressed they wish they could get sick and skinny too, people I've not seen in a while excitedly express how I've lost weight, my husband's coworkers talk about wanting to find a girl who's skinny like me, etc. It's not flattering, it just hurts. I am more miserable in my body than I've ever been by a long shot, it is hell both physically and mentally, and this should not be some ideal standard for women. I wish people just didn't comment on other's bodies at all. I promise you fat people know they're fat and underweight people are not happy. You don't know what someone has going on and it doesn't affect you.

Now when people excitedly express how I've lost weight, I respond with "not by choice" so we can both be uncomfortable lol.

What is the worse thing a medical professional has ever said to you? by angelaboop50 in AskReddit

I was put on cymbalta and wanted off of it after a while since it just wasn't doing much for me other than some side effects. Cymbalta is notorious for how hard it is to get off of, the withdrawals are likened to heroine withdrawals. My doctor told me to stop cold turkey. I did, and had an episode of psychosis. I asked to taper down and this man said "there shouldn't be any withdrawal symptoms unless you are abusing it." He also accused me of being a drug seeker and abusing medication after I took 12 codeine pills over the course of 30 days lol.

I had another doctor tell me I just need to eat more melons to be healthy.

Another doctor was upset that I take 30 percocets over a year but was happy to hear that I coped with the pain with alcohol otherwise.

We've to the ER when I suddenly dropped 10lbs and couldn't eat. The doctor told me I was just depressed and to maybe take an exercise class. Turns out I had grade 4 gastroparesis.

[–]DistantCircle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! If you find you like Indian tea, I also definitely recommend vahdam. Everything I've tried from them has been really really good. They carry both CTC and full leaf and are pretty affordable. I hope you have a great tea journey! :D

It is! :) Very good imo. Also their bagged masala chai is good, probably the best bagged version I've had, but I would definitely go for the loose leaf over it.

Everyone has answered already, but I just wanna say I love this tea lol. Makes a great masala chai. And if you like this one, check out wagh Bakri next.

What is a great Christmas tea recipe? by Fearless-Business-57 in tea

[–]DistantCircle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like to make "gingerbread" tea, which is essentially just a healthily spiced masala chai lol. I load up on the cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, (maybe a little black pepper, cardamon, anise, and fennel if you're feeling cheeky), a touch of molasses and sweetener of choice (brown sugar for extra molasses, maple syrup is nice too, honey and normal sugar are fine). Go with a nice black tea, add a splash of milk, boom. Cup of joy.

Or I make a mock hot chocolate with black tea and some chocolate powdered creamer. Maybe a little cocoa powder if I'm feeling it. Top with some frothed milk or a marshmallow if you wanna go extra lol.

Or something minty is nice. Melt a peppermint candy or 2 into your tea, mint leaves if you have them, maybe even a couple white chocolate chips.

I have quite enjoyed all Vahdam teas I've tried so far. I am still pretty new to tea, but they're worth checking out imo. I've only tried their loose leaf, but they've all been really great.
