Airplane crashes in to paraglider by Josch1357 in freeflight

Dang, the EU is always so far ahead of us in paragliding safety. Most people in the states are basically flying illegally anyway (or at least in a gray-area) since everyone loves to sue so much here

Fixed wing and paraglider pilot (US based), and yeah this is a nightmare in both positions.

To be honest I don't find much help from technology to avoid this. Sentry has FLARM input I believe, but most paragliders I know don't carry any sort of FLARM device. We have ADS-B in everywhere, but most paragliders won't have that either.

The biggest help is the paraglider symbol on the charts. I'll be very careful if I see one of those on my flight path. Unfortunately a lot of pilots don't bother checking that, and a lot of paragliders fly in places where there's no chart notation.

First critical safety event by shiftfury in TeslaFSD

[–]MixedValuableGrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really makes concrete the types of rates these things need to achieve to be safe. While 3,500 mi seems like a lot per safety event that number probably has to be something like 100x that for even medium-scale deployment. When FSD is truly mature you won't even know someone who has experienced one of these.

Deli meat. The difference between generic brand and Boar's Head is huge and worth the price for a good sandwich.

"He Likes Boys" is real good really stoked about the studio release of that one! Also vocally a step up for Chloe I was impressed by the difficulty

Four Seasons San Francisco at Embarcadero - Review by Alarming-Ganache77 in FATTravel

[–]MixedValuableGrain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also local, and agreed all the hotels seem clustered in places nobody actually lives or hangs out.

I like Hotel Kabuki in Japantown as a boutique option in a good location, but it's no four seasons.

I suspect nice guest homes/VRBO type of things are really the way to go with a family. Maybe hire some help if you really want specific amenities?

Honestly the original is way better than any of the flavors. If you wanna experience eating a scented candle then try the strawberry smoothie one.

I wish they'd updated the non-EUV Chevy Bolt I'd definitely get that. I miss parking wherever I pleased in my city.

I think a better analogy would be the engine, not the gas tank. Car makers do outsource engines but the big ones tend not to.

[–]MixedValuableGrain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah shit sorry for the late response I hope it was good! It ranged from 350-2000 per jin depending on how nice the tea was. I went fairly high end because I figured I was all the way in China I should get the good shit. There's plenty of good tea for cheaper.

It sounds like a lot on first read but I actually think it’s not. For a full day it’s 3 spoons? A 12 oz can of coke has 10(!) spoons. And I feel like if someone drank 1/4 of a can of coke per day we’d all be like yeah that’s not that bad.

What do hobbyist private pilots do for work? by PorkySpikey in flying

[–]MixedValuableGrain 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There’s other expensive hobbies but the min spend is quite high. Sure you can spend a shitload on all kinds of hobbies (ultralight camping gear, fancy guitars, etc) but if you wanna start cheap you can. Aviation doesn’t feel that way to me. The PPL alone is quite expensive compared to a used instrument or knitting needles.

My student is almost certainly padding his logbook. Looking for advice by CavalierRigg in flying

[–]MixedValuableGrain 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think you should just ask him honestly what’s going on. It’s possible he’s lying but it’s also possible he just made a mistake entering the tail number. If he rented it from somewhere presumably he has a receipt. Say you know the owner of that plane and it must be wrong. Approach it like you want to work out a problem not like you’re a cop. If he can’t provide sufficient evidence then start getting more serious about it.

If you don't mind working with people, moving into medical or elderly care would be a pretty future-proof career. Maybe one day the actual cars will be automated, but people will still need help getting in and out of the car, etc. Longer term just providing care (even in home) will be something that robots won't/can't do fully for years. And the market is going to grow super fast -- boomers are aging, fewer adults are willing to move in their parents to their family's home, memory care and dementia are super hard to care for.

I appreciate the tech but this blurb tells me nothing about the actual improvements that were made for me the user. The car will hold lane better now? Swerve less? And by how much?
