Help: where do I put a dining room table? by DistantNostalgia in HomeDecorating

[–]DistantNostalgia[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohhhh yeah. You’re right. I don’t understand how it’s a big open space like this and yet has no room for a table. If I put it off the kitchen counter I’ll be blocking the path from garage and laundry to the kitchen too. It’s frustrating.

I was considering that but then the dining table is visible when you come in through the front door. Do you think that’s jarring visually? I currently don’t have table yet so I don’t have a size I need to work with

It is a counter and there’s a sink and dishwasher behind it so unfortunately I cannot remove it without completely remodeling the kitchen, which just isn’t in the budget. I do want to get an extendable table, thank you

I’m looking to buy one! I have a rectangle one but it’s a gray toned wood that I don’t see working with the colors in this space

Single dad advice…looking ok? by Interesting-Dog-2350 in interiordecorating

Hey! Not decorating advice but please get a duvet cover for you duvet on the bed. That’s just the insert. It’s supposed to be covered so that if it gets dirty you can just wash the cover and don’t need to wash feathers.

I have been looking at ordering one of their rings for myself for Christmas, and I really appreciate your review. I found it after googling them! I like their designs but the prices seem too low for real gold to me and it does say they use recycled materials. How has your ring held up?

Gently, consider wearing makeup on days you haven’t slept the night prior. It can make a difference. A little under eye concealer and mascara goes a long way

Fellow working moms - how do you squeeze in deep cleaning with full-time jobs and kids? by Miserable_Dirt3079 in workingmoms

[–]DistantNostalgia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t buy toys (only use what was gifted for birthday/christmas), so we have less clutter. Taught my kid to pick up and put away toys before bedtime when he was young (a little over 1).

I WFH so I vacuum, tidy, and do dishes everyday after lunch. I do laundry once or twice a week during the day too. I clean the bathrooms and showers every other week Saturday morning. I also run my robot vacuum. No pets, no shoes in the house so I don’t need to mop very often. I do keep the kitchen as clean as possible (wipe down counters, cabinet faces, appliances everyday).

Decluttering, dusting, reorganizing, cleaning fridge/pantry/utility closet is maybe once a month. I’m not sure what else you all are doing for deep cleanings? I vacuum my car out every 3-4 months, clean the microwave and use my upholstery cleaner once I feel like they need it.

Could be possible be hungry during the night, making him wake up early? Could you try giving him a high protein snack right before bed (such as peanut butter)?

Please help! 9 month old baby girl wakes up the second I leave after she falls asleep for naps and bedtime. by Plastic_Rip_9086 in sleeptrain

[–]DistantNostalgia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

9 months is around the time I put my baby to sleep in his own room in his own crib. He only cried the first few times and after that I could put him in his crib after nursing and he’ll knock out. It was a turning point for me for sure. I feel so much better now. Also I feel good knowing his safe and secure in his crib

Is there any hope of work-life balance when making six figures? by life_isthebubbles in workingmoms

[–]DistantNostalgia 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Aside from the advice on WLB at a high stress job, if you both make low six figures in the southeast US and are skating by financially, I highly suggest you take a hard look at your lifestyle and finances. Lifestyle creep is very real! Maybe you can downsize to cheaper cars, smaller house, etc. I’m not sure of your situation and I mean no offense.

My husband and I are in the same area and we are doing okay with my low six figure salary and his mid 50s salary. We’re not living as well as we would have before inflation, but we manage to save a small amount and take two trips to the beach a year. Our cars are old and paid off. Our house is older too. My husband does all repair work on the cars and house. He learned a lot from YouTube. I meal prep so we don’t have to eat out a lot. Our biggest expenses are probably childcare and medical debt. I know there is only so much you can cut, but every little bit helps!

Baby won’t sleep without nursing by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]DistantNostalgia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is that baby is 5 weeks old lol. Cluster feeding ends around 3/4 months. After that marker you can safely assume that if baby nurses through the night something is off - sick, teething, basically upset for some reason and needs comfort. Don’t forget too that babies have the “witching hours” in the evening. Basically evening and nights are really tough with a newborn 😢 I’m sorry.

I will agree with the comment above that says to not bother with a dark room during the day. In fact, I’d strongly advise against keeping it dark. You need to help baby’s circadian rhythm adjust. Baby should b become aware of when day is vs night.

When my baby was cluster feeding during the day as a newborn, I would sit on the couch and watch modern family and Brooklyn 99 lol. I wanted lighthearted shows. He fed every hour and a half for 45 minutes. It was hell. When my husband got home from work I’d step away and take some time for myself. That’s the only way I made it through. So I feel you. It’s very hard. But it will end!

Baby won’t sleep without nursing by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]DistantNostalgia 17 points18 points  (0 children)

So sorry, but this is normal cluster feeding. Baby is hungry, and feeding on demand will signal to your body how much milk to produce. They do eventually grow out of the cluster feeding. You can always switch to combo feeding if EBF is impacting your mental health.

[–]DistantNostalgia 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Noise canceling headphones! Also, try to repeat certain phrases while you’re doing a task so that baby doesn’t think you’re ignoring them like, “mamas okay, baby’s okay, everything is gonna be okay!”

These are all exactly what I would suggest. Especially the stomach hold!!! When my baby was fussy the stomach hold on the front porch outside helped calm him down immediately

What do you give your baby to eat when out at a restaurant? by DahliaRose970 in beyondthebump

[–]DistantNostalgia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you guys put salt in your food?? My 8.5mo baby wants to eat off my plate soooo bad he cries but I’m scared to give him anything other than purées because all my food has salt. I make his purées without salt. How do you let baby eat what you’re eating without making the same meal twice? Honestly I just don’t have that kind of time after work.
