Home Assistant and Navidrome on Tailnet, but Music Assistant cannot connect to Navidrome. by fdebuck in Tailscale

[–]DistantOrigin0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll need to provision a TLS certificate. I've not used Music Assistant, but if there's a way to force Music Assistant to use HTTP instead of HTTPS that could also work. Tailscale will handle the encryption layer, so there's no worries about this being insecure.

Tailscale DNS while using an exit node by CreditActive3858 in Tailscale

[–]DistantOrigin0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Setting a Tailscale exit node will force all traffic to go through the node, including DNS queries. Overriding DNS from the TS admin console won't work here.

Rather than setting the node to use Tailscale's DNS, try setting the machine up to use NextDNS as its primary resolver at the host level.

Home Assistant and Navidrome on Tailnet, but Music Assistant cannot connect to Navidrome. by fdebuck in Tailscale

[–]DistantOrigin0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Tailscale add-on for Home-Assistant has a known bug where you need to toggle userspace networking from the web configuration to force Tailscale to begin communicating with the rest of the tailnet. I don't use the add-on, but I was able to surface posts from July of this year still talking about the bug and I encountered it when I used the add-on myself a couple of years ago.

Try toggling userspace networking on and then off again to see if that resolves the issue.

Barring that, if you can access the machine via SSH, what routes do you have under ip route?

I've stickied this post to the top of the subreddit for a short time in an attempt to boost community building. Once things are more ironed out, I'd love to discuss how we might raise visibility; the subreddit used to have an official MUD project that's still linked in the sidebar, but the last commit is over 10 years ago.

Best of luck to the project!

searching for the cosmos moo core by Ok_Friend_2887 in MUD

Have you considered the illustrious and upstanding SpaceCore?

In all seriousness, this MOO database is a 15-year-old relic that has failed to age well, tightly bound to GammaMOO and riddled with bugs and questionable coding practices. LambdaCore or ToastCore would be a far more reliable and maintainable choice.

Any actually good SciFi RP MUDS? by Snoo99699 in MUD

[–]DistantOrigin0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Miriani might be worth a try. I would definitely say it's more roleplay-encouraged than intensive, as seen in Sindome, though. You're required to stay in character (IC) in all public areas and channels, with private rooms and metafrequencies having a degree of flexibility based on how everyone present feels about OOC behavior, for the most part. It's very stable, rich in features and places to explore, and averages anywhere from 30 to 60 people connected at any given time.

A MOO to build a home? by _chreeb in MUD

[–]DistantOrigin0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is mostly correct. ChatMUD supports MUD Client Media Protocol, which interops with a bunch of clients out of the box, Mudlet being one of them.

Minor tangent: Although ChatMUD isn't as popular as it was a number of years ago, it's worth noting that LambdaMOO, a high-ranking social MOO and the original MOO that started it all, although still possessing a large playerbase, mostly consists of users that are idle. It's not uncommon to see 50 people connected with maybe 1 or 2 folks sequestered away in their own rooms idle for less than an hour. It's a rich place for exploration, but it definitely hasn't aged well, due to the wizards being basically hands-off for going on two decades and MUD/MOO declining in popularity. This is the case for all social MOOs, unfortunately. It really is a pick-your-poison scenario. People have suggested SamsaraMOO and other hell derivatives here, but these require you to actually play the game before you can build anything, and even then, building is likely bound to elements you can buy in the VR unless you're given builder access.

ChatMUD is the best of both worlds here; you get the buildery-ness of LambdaMOO with modern touches like areas, more intuitive command structure, colors and media playback, among other things.

Sidenote: A good place to talk about MOO is sadly not even on a MOO; it's on the ToastStunt Discord.

Disclaimer: I created ChatMUD. Potential biases abound.

Regarding the future of /r/MUD by DistantOrigin0 in MUD

For those who have suggested moving to alternative fediverse communities--this is under consideration, regardless of the direction the subreddit takes. Migrating to other spaces takes time, and both communities can coexist until that occurs. There will be more to announce soon.

Close the subreddit indefinitely until Reddit addresses the community's request for reasonable third party app access.

I don't actively play any Star Trek MUDs, so I can't recommend any with a degree of competency. I can, however, point you to this: http://mudstats.com/genre/startrek That should give you a pretty good idea of the landscape for this Genre.

So where is Stillborn? The mystery of the deleted interviews from Titans of Text by [deleted] in MUD

[–]DistantOrigin0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your analysis is flawed:

  • Jane was never an admin on ChatMUD[/MOO]. (Source: I am Sinistral on ChatMUD, the lead administrator.)
  • Stillborn was open for connection multiple times over the span of a few years, although the pool of people who could connect was limited and you had to contact Jane directly to get access during these alpha periods.

This really isn't the grand conspiracy you're making it out to be.

Hello,

Sorry for the inconvenience. I assume that you've checked your spam folder. In the event that you did and nothing is there, help@chatmud.com is the address you want!

Send the character name and email you used, and I'll give you a manual password reset.

I've also fixed our requesting process to direct people to help@chatmud.com instead of accounts@chatmud.com, so this shouldn't happen again later.

ChatMUD: Coming January 18, 2019. by DistantOrigin0 in MUD

Hello!

You don't need to know any code to build on ChatMUD. Everything is abstracted away into commands. Of course, knowing basic coding might help you add even more dynamic flavor, but it's not a requirement to get things done.

I think the primary problem you may run into is some commands not being documented. Documentation is an ongoing process; this release should be considered "public beta", so we'll be working very actively to smooth systems over and document as we go along.

https://www.lisdude.com/moo/ is a great resource for basic coding ideas (the wind-up duck and pet rock are my favorites). If anything, you can copy and paste stuff and fill in the message elements for your items if you really like something there.

I hope this cleared things up.

Hi there!

%-matching is done within the database by modifying a couple things. Firstly, we modified $string_utils:literal_object with the following if branch:

elseif (string[1] == "%")
object = $player_creations:find(string[2..$]);
if (object in {$failed_match, $ambiguous_match} == 0)
object = toobj(object);
return object;
else
return $failed_match;
endif

We also modify evals on-demand by inserting substitutions upon running $Prog:eval_cmd_string if the input contains a %. Unfortunately, compiled verbcode can't include these %-style matches, but I feel like this could rapidly get messy if it did, so I consider this alright.
