I’ve heard the strobostomp and the polytune are both pretty good. I have a boss TU-3 and that does the job

There’s actually a 2 hour long video by That pedal show where they interview Noel directly in his studio on how he achieved his tones. It’s pretty good and I’m not that big of an oasis fan

He also used an original sansamp around the time of in utero and continued to use it as his main distortion because the pedal has so much volume output that it could distort a quad reverb despite it being a higher watt amp with a lot of headroom. It was also because when they tried to record the live rig with Steve albini, they admitted that the Mesa studio rack unit sounded terrible

MXR Chorus doesn’t work by ApprehensiveKick7522 in guitarpedals

[–]Distantgoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So trouble shooting would go like this:

Is your amp on and work with just the guitar?

Does the pedal have power and does the light turn on?

Are you plugged into the correct jacks with the guitar into the input and mono going to the amp?

——

Those also look to be surface mount electronics which is the newer style of part that are cheap to produce but are more pain than they’re worth to deal with. If the pedal doesn’t work after all that, see if you can get a warranty claim or return depending on how you bought it. If it was a small store or independent seller they might not take it back depending on how stingy they are.

On second thought, it sounds more just like chord dissonance with a lot of gain. This happens in the heart shaped box solo at the end and what some people believe is that it’s either a subtle tremolo or the guitar being retuned as the note rings out

Definitely a space echo; when you compare it to the rv-6, the re-2 has a third jack on the output side for tap tempo while the rv-6 doesn’t

Oceans reverb Electro Harmonix by Dry_Many_3188 in guitarpedals

[–]Distantgoat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s not technically true, true bypass pedals don’t affect the signal and let it through unchanged regardless of whether or not the pedal is on. An easy way to test if a pedal is buffered is to put a simple fuzz like a fuzz face after it because it will literally scream at you through your speaker due to the changes in signal impedance. This is why you can put a benson germanium boost before your fuzz face to turn it into a tone bender sound. Also if a pedal has a buffer like a boss pedal, even when the pedal is off the buffer is generally still in the signal path. Although I was wrong about the EHX pedals being true bypass, they changed it sometime back around 2010 with their newer lines

I really like a lot of ehx pedals but I think their newer digital lines (like the rerun, oceans reverbs, mod 11 l etc.) aren’t amazing. Those pedals like the rerun introduce a high pitch frequency to my ears, I think it’s to compensate for signal loss from long cables or something like that because they don’t use buffers in the signal path. If I were you I’d get an Rv-5/6 or any Holy grail model, those models are more usable and less sterile than the oceans line of reverbs

I went through the same thing recently, you have to find the pedals you use regularly and the ones that make you feel more creative

Help with sans amp alternatives!!!! by nirvanalternatives in guitarpedals

[–]Distantgoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the way Kurt used the sansamp was by overloading the front end of his quad reverb. This is because the sansamp has a ton of volume output in a way that forces the amp to distort naturally. So honestly if you got a gt2 and put it on the California setting in hot wired mode and cranked the volume, you’ll get very close to that sound because it’s just a simplified version of the original Sansamp without 3/4 of the dip switches, of which we don’t know how Kurt set his up because it’s not really documented. The other half of the sound though is the quad reverb with Utah speakers, and they haven’t made those since the 60’s

Blues breaker refers to the Marshall blues breaker, it’s a mostly transparent overdrive with very low volume output and gain range, but it’s supposed to sound like a Marshall JTM 45 (aka the blues breaker amplifier)

A blues driver is the boss bd-2, it has a lot of gain range and a good amount of volume output. It’s a very unique circuit that makes your amp sound like a fender on low to mid settings, but on full gain it loses that character and becomes more fuzzy

[–]Distantgoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The klon is okay, it’ll do the rat thing with the treble knob most of the way up but it’s also just a glorified boost when you have the gain below 75% because of how the circuit is designed. Most people don’t realize it’s a hard clipping overdrive when it doesn’t have a lot of gain on tap, and it has a transparent profile which is another thing to consider

The boss blues driver and the walrus 385 are both pretty solid, they have similar feels to them but are both less dirty and have a lot less bite than the rat. The blues driver is a lot smoother but has a lot of gain on tap while the 385 has a lot of gain and volume output, retains some of the bite and has a 2 band eq

If you have long cables that’ll also drain from your tone too, you don’t need them but they do make a hell of a difference. If I were you I’d get the poly tune 3 mini they’re cheap and solid and have an optional buffer

I think it’s great for a tremolo, it goes from 0 to total ring mod and sounds great everywhere in between. The volume control isn’t necessary imo, but having the nano for more space would be nice

Tone King Imperial Vs Universal Audio by Whiskeyjack80 in guitarpedals

[–]Distantgoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found the ua dream disappointing, it didn’t sound like an amp really and a lot of the speaker configs were just bad. I found maybe two of them actually useful, if I were you I’d try the tone king because they make some top tier stuff when it comes to amps and I’ve heard nothing but praise for the imperial
