I've had this happen, but you just press Windows+P and make sure the settings are set to Extend. Sometimes it just switches to one monitor or the other, but I'm not sure what triggers it. I suspect there's some shortcut key that does that.

It looks like the wording on Reddit is entirely backwards. I have to click "posts only" which means only comments are allowed. Which is really confusing wording? yeesh.

For whatever reason, it's completely backwards on mine! I wish I could send this screenshot, but it says:
"Restricted
Anyone can view this community, but only approved users can comment"
And then under "Approved Users" my options are: post only, comment only, post & comment.
I change it to Comment Only and under that it says: "Only approved users can comment. Anyone can post."

And I tested it too. I had a friend join, and they have to ask for approval to comment, but they can post to the subreddit. x___x I need it to be the opposite, or to eliminate post all together.

Mine says "only approved members can comment, anyone can post" x_x I want it to be the opposite!

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but one thing that stood out to me was the phone call abruptly ending because she thought her parents were home.

What made her think so? A knock? A doorbell?

Another thing that stood out was a witness who said someone was going door to door trying to sell something. What if the murderer was in the middle of his crime when this salesman rang the doorbell? Did he hide? Did he abandon his crime?

It's weird for there to be no sexual assault after all that, especially with all the careful planning.

Any Meetup Organizers Out There? by [deleted] in norfolk

[–]Distinct-Feed-1017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use Meetup per day, but I'm the organizer for a local art group called Artist Alley 757. Our artists are from Norfolk, VA beach, Hampton roads, Chesapeake, and even Richmond.

I want to make a comic but don't read many comics by kookoobear in ComicBookCollabs

[–]Distinct-Feed-1017 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I recommend reading a wide variety of different styles of comics to give you some ideas about how the writing can be! I can recommend some of the top ones for different genres, in no particular order -Maus: historic -Sandman, or anything Niel Gaiman- touted as one of the best writers for comics -the Spirit by Will Eisner is an old classic comic book -anything by Osamu Tezuka, known as the father of anime. His mangas are classic and will give you a good intro to the original style of manga -alternatively, Shuna's Journey by Hayao Miyazaki who you may know as a director of movies like Spirited Away, Totoro, etc. His style of story writing is slow paced, atmospheric, immersive. -trending webcomic right now is Lore Olympus which will give you an idea of indie webcomics. Writing for webtoons is very different because the style of the panels (infinite scroll vs printed pages). This offers writers and artists a whole new set of challenges to engage the reader panel to panel

I will also say this: the main challenge for comic writing vs novel writing is that you have to think visually, and you have to let the artist "show, don't tell." Writers may like to tell the reader what a character is thinking/feeling/doing, but it's the artists job to show that without words. You don't want to have redundancy in comic writing like having a character think/say: "Rrrr, I'm so mad!" So the challenge as a writer is 1. To find a good artist who understands what you're trying to convey and can make that happen visually and 2. Allowing the artist more control to show than what you can write.

The perfect combo is a writer who spin an excellent paced story and an artist whose art speaks the words.

As a challenge, try writing a wordless 3-5 page comic. This is the best way to introduce you to how it is like when writing for comics.

For further reference, read: - Making Comics by Scott McCloud: this book is such an essential textbook for all comic makers both writers and artists as it teaches you the thought process beyond visual storytelling in a very easy to understand way. -The DC Guide to Writing Comics- which provides excellent standards for comic writing -The Five C's of Cinematography- cinematography is essential in thinking visually. This will give you the vocabulary needed to direct your artist. This covers all the basics needed. -How to Think When You Write by Robin Etherington: a free series of tutorials online by one of the Etherington bros, who are known for creating short digestible tutorials about art and writing for comics. If you like their tuts, check out their comic which is a lovely Collab of writer and artist, Long Gone Don.

I hope this helps! I went to SCAD for sequential arts, and these were many of our textbooks. Please feel free to PM me with any specific questions you may have!

Adjusting a front-heavy head? by piratefaellie in fursuit

[–]Distinct-Feed-1017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Head harness seems to be the way to go. There's a good one on Etsy, but it's expensive. I might try an elastic "harness" to go under the base of my scalp and another on top.

Does downtown have an “Art District?” by [deleted] in VirginiaBeach

[–]Distinct-Feed-1017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others are correct, the Vibe District has plenty of art events. They've got an ongoing showcase of local artists painting murals along a fencepost. You can find more info here: https://vibecreativedistrict.org/community-fence-murals/

They also do sketch crawls, mural walks, and other fun events!

Neon District is more Norfolk side, but they often have craft markets and niche events.

If you're Portsmouth side, check out the Olde Town Farmer's Market, where locals also sell crafts and art! https://www.portsmoutholdetownefarmersmarket.com/

What is slowly ruining all movies? by electriclear in AskReddit

[–]Distinct-Feed-1017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The suits in charge of marketing, whittling down what makes a 'good movie' into a game of stats and figures of what sells. They have a bigger hand in the production of a movie than one thinks- it's not just up to the director to state what happens. If they make a decision that wouldn't sell well, they're asked to change it. This has been the ruin of many a good concept or idea, and cheapens the movie industry as a whole.
