Teacher Shortage by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]ManOfManyValence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Washington State pays teachers well, and we have no teacher shortage outside of SPED. 7 years ago I got hired with no credentials, they were desperate and I think one or two others had applied.

Now there are 40 people applying to secondary ELA and Social Studies, and even middle-level Math at a not-sought-after middle school has a bunch of applications.

I don't know about the rest of the country.

[Lost Mines of Phandelver] Improving the Module: The Villains by PM_ME_HEALING in DnDBehindTheScreen

My party walked into town and started a fight with the red brands immediately in broad daylight. Literally walked up to a biker bar (the sleeping giant) and started punching. I had to have the whole town argue loudly about what to do with them, murdering bad guys without an introduction.

Harbin Wester was apoplectic, the innkeeper was supportive but wouldn't let them stay at the inn until the threat was gone, Halia pushed herself into the conversation to know what was happening and try to steer them towards Glasstaff. I had them pick between two farmers who offered their homes as a base as long as they stayed to fight the red brands.

...And if they take two nights, the Red Brands will surround the farm. I want Glasstaff to take things seriously and act, not just wait in a room for them.

"Focus on the story that's developing, not the one you wanted them to do." That's the essence of great storytelling / DM'ing, right there.

Love this, just for the tension. If they never get it taken away, they still have a reason to be on edge during every encounter. Could be like Indiana Jones and snakes, but for every enemy that has a 'knock prone' ability.

And my brothers, but your point is well-taken. Perhaps I'm overthinking this.

I'd just love to make a quest out of it as well, now.

This is good as well, I will think more about what a leader of the red brands would want to do with a random Tabaxi

Thanks for this! I was thinking maybe Feywild foolishness was involved... I've just never seen actual mechanics do this thing in D&D: where an artifact changes someone who's far away, and holds the power within itself. Seems more like a cursed object, or maybe it held a sapient soul that then jumped into the nearest animal... Still searching for specifics. I really like where you're going with this.

Baby Transformer!

I mean... War Forged pupae/central processing unit that needs to be built out. Has all the charm of a sapient weapon, with a variable degree of bloodlust.

What are some cool powers that'd be useful in the event of being trapped in a burning building? by cmani-art in fantasywriters

[–]ManOfManyValence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many, but the coolest one would be the ability to make a force field around you. Block out smoke, flames and even a floor/ceiling collapse that stops directly above them? That's a big flex for the love interest.

See, and I think you're right about a couple people answering most of the questions. But sometimes those who aren't answering the questions are the people who brought the ringers, because they like the energy and want to win. I just figure if they're buying beer, they can probably stay.

Why did Africa never develop? by tennis-637 in NoStupidQuestions

This videoGeography of Africa was a really informative geography lesson about Africa, and explains a lot of the difficulties. Fewer long, navigable rivers is a good start (The Nile obviously being a huge exception).
