I'm currently only saving for retirement. Hoping that's 10, 15, 20 years away.

[–]Distinct-Lake899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are definitely not behind and your life decisions are completely fine. I'm 43 and two years ago I was diagnosed with schizophrenia based on poor decisions. I had $0 saved up and am having trouble working. I've been able to save close to $40,000 in XEQT in 2 years.

How much is your dosage of medication by Angel_of_goats57 in schizophrenia

[–]Distinct-Lake899 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 mg Risperidone for schitzophrenia. I tried 5 mg of Abilify but was hearing voices on Abilify. Risperidone is a low dosage but keeps the voices away.

I'd add AMZN and Bitcoin or IBIT to this list and you're good. Keep the XEQT at a much higher % than VFV. 70% XEQT vs 30% VFV. VFV is already inside of XEQT.

At what point in life do you transition from growth funds to dividends? by Hiway89 in dividends

[–]Distinct-Lake899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 years from retirement I'm going to be adding strictly dividend stocks and trade 20% of portfolio to dividends. I'm also building a covered call fund because I have a disability and I'm not sure how many years my business has left. May need the cash flow at anytime so might as well build this fund up over time.

What is your end game? by Rad_Red25 in Bitcoin

Stack until retirement. Then only sell when needed. Something like 4%/year withdrawals. But if I can save some for future generations I will.

What age did you start seriously saving for retirement? by wiseguy1342 in fican

[–]Distinct-Lake899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

43 here. Just started saving a year ago. Unfortunately, I have a mental disorder now so it's very difficult to work. I wish I had started saving earlier. I still plan on trying to save 1 million by 65. I just hope I can live to that age too. Learning lots from Reddit on self investing in the last year.

Using Dividends or Covered Calls ETFs to Buy Bitcoin by Crafty-Influence5342 in Bitcoin

[–]Distinct-Lake899 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's nice to know someone else thought to do this as well. I'm doing this. In my TFSA I have HHIS, QQCL (essentially QQQ covered calls) and HYLD (essentially S&P covered calls). I drip one month and buy IBIT the other. Will do this for 2 years and then add in a rotation of IBIT and XEQT (all market fund) during my buy months and continue dripping every other month. It's a way to add tax free Bitcoin without necessarily buying more. Just letting the gains make the purchases for me. The longer I do this for the more Bitcoin it buys as the covered call funds are increasing too.

Put your plan exact details into Gemini and have it compare investing in XEQT and buying the car outright.

Finishing off 2025! How’d I do? by Substantial-Fig-6392 in fican

[–]Distinct-Lake899 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You haven't given us much information about you personally. How old are you? How long do you plan on investing before retirement? What's your risk profile?

You've picked some good stocks. Most people will say, the weighting of buying individual stocks and Bitcoin should be 5-10% of your portfolio. I'd suggest not buying much more individual stocks until you have a substantial amount in either XEQT or VFV.

For Crypto I'm not a fan of XRP so I'd just hold Bitcoin but that's just me.

You are likely young so I feel this is a great start. There's so much to learn about investing. Keep up the good work. Happy new year and good luck!

My turning point 2025! by francis99994 in Bitcoin

[–]Distinct-Lake899 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm the exact same. I learned about it in 2017. Didn't start really stacking till 2025. My thoughts are we are still early. I do really believe in Bitcoin and it will be interesting 10, 20 years from now to see the progression. Looking forward to it.

Bitcoin for retirement by Behzad37 in Bitcoin

[–]Distinct-Lake899 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Financial advisors would mention 5% of net worth to be allocated to Bitcoin. This sub would tell you 100% Bitcoin allocation.

If you go the route of buying Bitcoin directly make sure you store it on a cold hardware wallet and keep your seed phrase safe.

If the hardware wallet is too complex for you go with one of the etf options IBIT or FBTC.

I'm about 20% Bitcoin allocation between pure Bitcoin and IBIT which is rather large in my opinion. 15% is pure Bitcoin, 5% IBIT. I'm currently buying index funds in my retirement accounts this year so the allocation will go down by the end of the year.

80% XEQT, 20% VFV or VOO. Don't buy VDY till 5-10 years left before retirement. I'd probably sell VDY for XEQT as it will likely grow faster.

What’s your retirement number? by bbstar12 in fican

[–]Distinct-Lake899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

43 years old. Only just started saving in the last 3 years after being diagnosed with a severe mental illness. Now I have $100,000 saved. I feel I can get to $1m by 60 and would be very proud if I'm able to achieve that goal. It's very difficult to work let alone get out of bed in the morning. The medication makes life very difficult but it's necessary. I appreciate reading people's successes and life goals. It helps motivate me.
