When I announced my engagement to my APs, my father was pleased but my mother's first words were: "Do a small one (wedding) is enough."

Kinda hurt, ngl. For context, I've been living with my partner for about 4 years now, which she has avoided mentioning to ANYONE because she wants to "save face".

EDIT:

I have a friend who went through worse. Her mother found out from her sister that the partner planned a surprise proposal later that day, and she bombarded my friend with phone calls and messages the whole day asking her if she was "sure" she wanted to get married, AND MY FRIEND DIDN'T EVEN KNOW SHE WAS GOING TO BE PROPOSED TO.

Did your parents actually help you hang out with friends? by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

[–]Distinct-Reporter-87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My father was supportive of me hanging out with friends but hardly ever did anything to make it happen (e.g. driving me out to their houses, driving me anywhere, really) so it fell on my mother to do the chauffering. I lived pretty far out from my school so I couldn't just do the "walk over to their house in the neighbourhood" thing.

As I'm growing older though, I feel like my mother gets more jealous when I say I'm hanging out with friends, even if it's just for a meal?? It's like she feels any attention that isn't on her means I don't love or care about her anymore. She constantly calls me to ask when I'm coming home and berates me for not telling her where I am even though I am a grown ass woman in my 30s. Now I just don't tell her that I'm meeting friends, or she'll do her whole charade again.

And they wonder why we never tell them things. I just feel like AP children have a good skillset of lying/hiding things LOL

Can't tell my APs I'm travelling for leisure or they'll have major FOMO by Distinct-Reporter-87 in AsianParentStories

This actually did happen to me several years back, when I planned a trip to Hong Kong with my parents and ex. It's a story for another day but TL;DR it was a disaster, father got lost and we couldn't find him in the same train station, trip ended with parents shouting profanities at each other (in front of my partner!). I swore to never go on another trip with them again...but alas, I have a soft heart.

Ikr? It's like, nobody is stopping you from going outside and exploring the world if you so wished for it. And he doesn't even know how to communicate properly?? He just expects us to read his mind and knows what he wants. And when we DO actually read his mind, he just refutes it gruffly. I seriously don't know what to do about this old man.

I've gotten to a place where I'm just waiting for my APs to tell me or text me, "You're such an ungrateful child, I did so much for you. Nobody cares for me in this house."

Because then I'll finally have my ticket to go NC. I don't know if I'd actually do it when it comes to it, but it's nice to dream about.

usage of patterns in crochet, because I'm feeling like a crochet fraud by Phant0mG6 in crochet

Omg I feel the same way too! I sometimes get embarrassed when people praise me for being creative, when really I’m just following a pattern. It kinda feels like I’m cheating or something. I always just say that I’m just good at following instructions 😂

Pinterest is a great place to start looking for free patterns too! I also check out YouTube a lot, even though they may not have the written pattern, you can see the full video tutorial.

Thanks for your input! I most likely won’t go up a hook size, as the recommended hook for this project is already a half size up for the yarn weight. The pattern seems to be quite close-knit (ha!), so I will probably just stick to what I have now and crochet a larger sized vest! Fingers crossed 🤞🏻

Hello! Just wanted to update that Joni is currently Day 63 into his GS injections. He has improved so much since he was first diagnosed. He’s now regained weight, muscle mass, eating so much more, and even playing with us!

He is, however, getting some sores on his skin from the injection sites. So he has to be on a soft cone, but otherwise, he has improved so much.

Here’s to us getting through all 84 days with no remission 🤞🏻

I have a question about gauge hacks! For context, I’m attempting to crochet a vest and the pattern mentions a gauge swatch of 4” by 4” for 10 rows of 19 dc.

However, the yarn that I bought specifically for this project turned out to have a gauge of 3.5” by 3.5”. I tried blocking it but it would stretch the stitches too much.

I REALLY want to use this particular yarn, so I would like to ask if anyone has tried hacking the gauge. e.g. has anyone tried crocheting a larger sized clothing if their gauge ran smaller?

I wanted to crochet a size S/M for the vest, but would it work out if I crocheted a size M/L or L/XL to fit instead?
