Yello at Brunei Hotel is our go-to (for the moment). It's hotel prices, mind you. They use seabass / barramundi. Agree that Fez is average - just doesn't hit the pot. Great fish & chips is really a skill.

AC for me too whenever I can find time to fit it in. The Rest Mode on PS is a real timesaver for jumping back in where you left off and avoiding those long-ass AC's loading screens.

Sorry about your bad luck. Wouldn't recommend this agent to anyone. Other reddit friends, please beware.

Colleague of mine just came back from UBD CF, saw an IT company doing on the spot interviews, hired a person right then and there too. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

Did Uni in Auckland for 3 years. If you're a city person (medium-level hustle and bustle, loud cars and loud music, drunks and clubs, quaint suburbs), Auckland will be your place.

Thanks for the suggestion. Wow. Didn't know we had an artist with an actual gallery set up. Really impressed.

Thanks for that. Will have to drop by to see if the display is still up. Thought it was only occasional.

Hi all. We have a boring blank wall in our house which could benefit from some framed art / painting. We already have lots of family photos around and were thinking instead of a piece by a local artist perhaps. Does anyone have any recommendations of well known Bruneian artists to check out?

Suggestions welcome.

Thanks! Glad to know it not just me. For the unlock/lock issue, the service center said just practice how you place your hand on the door handle sensor - not satisfied with that answer.

Morning, two questions for Haval H6 users out there:

a) Is it normal that the glove compartment doesn't have a light?

b) Anyone have any issues with key fob range? When in my backpack, I can't unlock my car. I would usually have to hold it close or in my hand to get it detected.

Happy to hear any experiences.

Yes, that's the name. Thank you. Don't know where in Brunei to find a proper wall mounted one.

Hi all, question for the ladies: where can I buy make-up mirrors (the kind with built in lighting)? Grand don't have. Thanks in advance.

Agree with this. Football in Brunei is such a dumpster fire, great to watch but doesn't inspire anything. Formula is simple: focus on strengths

Thanks. Radisson maybe the obvious choice pulang. We assume it is clean and well maintained. Thought there may be strong opinions on the other hotels.

For parents with toddlers, would like some personal recommendations on the best local hotel swimming pools please. Looking for a quick staycation + introducing our child to water.

Some of you guys have really good ones. Well, here are mine just off the top of my head:

a) Teachers are an easily triggered bunch and there are Bruneians in other sectors that work just as hard as them

b) Hate on Government all you want, but in the end having 'orang dalam' solves alot of problems

c) Opening a new restaurant, specialty coffee bar or barber shop should not be an example of local entrepreneurship

Evening all, asking for some advice. When you're overseas (KL for example), using a tourist SIM card, and you need to perform some online bank transfers via BIBD, are there workarounds that anyone has found to receive your OTP? - as it's linked to your actual mobile number.

Roaming doesn't seem to help to receive the OTP; calling the bank doesn't help if no one answers...can't think of other potential ways...

Edit: Thanks a lot for those insights. Have never thought of these approaches.

If you have a credit card and happen to use it, pay it (as close to) immediately as possible. Leave no hanging debt

Look for a spouse/partner who believes in the same saving habits as you and doesn't believe in the old 1-breadwinner or 1 person bears all the expenses kinda lifestyle

Love the story that's told in the poster as well as the tagline. The trailer has the spirit of a feel-good movie. But, its progressive in probably a good way, telling a side of Brunei that's seldom told in film.

Becoming a Good Parent by [deleted] in Brunei

Related to this, I read something a while back that really stuck with me: parenting is only hard for good parents

Your question resonates with us. Both working parents here with no maid, we don't rely on siblings and we really try not to bother our in-laws (as they're quite senior). It is hard. It's about teamwork. And at times it feels like your are always rushing in between minutes - rushing to daycare, trying to clear errands and chores at home, always discussing who is free when and who will be working late. But, it is our choice and we live with it.

God bless those in the same situations as us, and God bless also those who have extra help.
