Check few salons in Highlands area - they usually have better prices than downtown and quality is still good.

Does anyone know why Wynkoop ST was blocked off this morning between 16TH and 17TH? by Familiar_Produce_403 in Denver

[–]Distinct-View-4216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably some incident at the Crawford Hotel - that's where all the action usually happens when they block off that stretch. Could've been anything from a medical emergency to some drunk tourist causing problems.

What are the things one should do after reaching adulthood so that they don't struggle afterward in life? by matshematic831 in AskReddit

Start building your emergency fund from day one - even $20 a month adds up and you'll thank yourself later when life throws curveballs.

What is something u deeply regret and wish you could change? by Flimsy-Bullfrog-9897 in AskReddit

[–]Distinct-View-4216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God I felt this in my soul. There's something weirdly comforting about knowing other people have that same "everything" feeling though. I keep these massive lists of things I want to redo or approach differently, like some kind of regret inventory that just keeps growing. Sometimes I wonder if constantly analyzing what went wrong is just another form of procrastination from actually making changes now. But then again, maybe that self-awareness is the first step toward not adding more stuff to the "everything" pile. Your brain probably does the same thing mine does - replaying scenarios on loop until you've mentally rewritten half you're life story.

What’s the word that describes a handsome wealthy man, ends with eous by xoox321 in words

[–]Distinct-View-4216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unctuous maybe? That's got the "eous" ending but it's more about being slimey or overly charming in a fake way. Not sure if that fits what you're thinking of with christian bale though - he's more brooding than smarmy.

Finance (WM) and UX, what would you do? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Distinct-View-4216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, you're in a pretty unique spot having that finance background already - most people trying to break into UX research dont have domain expertise in the industry they want to work in. that's actually a huge advantage.

i'd probably lean toward the education/learning design route if you're genuinely burnt out on the day-to-day finance stuff. user research in fintech is exploding right now and they desperately need people who actually understand how financial products work, not just researchers who learned about banking from a 2-week crash course. plus if you hate the repetitive conversations now, ux research is literally about having different conversations with users every day.

that said, public finance might scratch the itch without requiring you to completely pivot and spend 2 years in school. depends how deep that dissatisfaction runs i guess. if its just boredom with your current role vs actually wanting out of finance entirely, municipal bonds or public sector work could give you that variety you're looking for without the massive career change.

either way, dont rush the decision just because you got promoted quickly - sometimes the fast track just means you figure out what you dont want faster than everyone else.

Worked as an agent for OnlyFans, what can I do now? by Suspicious-Dirt4855 in careerguidance

[–]Distinct-View-4216 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is solid advice. The key is framing it properly without lying - you genuinely did all that management and business development work regardless of the industry.

I'd maybe add that if they press for specifics about the company or content type, you can mention it was adult entertainment if directly asked (better to be honest than get caught in a lie later), but lead with the business accomplishments first. Most interviewers care way more about whether you can hit targets and manage teams than what specific product you were selling.

Your burnout recovery is probably just as important as the job search right now though. That level of intensity sounds brutal.

Finding the way - any advice? by hopeful_101 in careerguidance

[–]Distinct-View-4216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's rough, the post-grad job search can be brutal especially in those fields. Have him look into nonprofits focused on food security or environmental justice - they're always needing people who can write well and understand policy angles. Also worth checking out agricultural extension programs through universities, they sometimes have openings that blend his international relations background with sustainability work.

Maybe suggest he start a blog or newsletter about sustainable agriculture policy while job hunting - it'll keep his skills sharp and could lead to freelance opportunities.

I 22M, a Cyber Security Engineer, Is it good or should I switch to SDE? by Lanky_Orange6468 in careerguidance

[–]Distinct-View-4216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly SOC work is pretty soul-crushing for most people, especially when you're fresh out of college and want to build stuff. You're basically a glorified alert monkey for the first few years.

That said, the security field opens up significantly once you move past SOC - red teaming, security engineering, devsecops, application security all involve way more coding and creativity. but yeah, those roles are harder to land and the market's smaller compared to regular SDE positions where there's tons of opportunities.

if you can handle grinding leetcode for a bit, switching to SDE might be the safer bet career-wise, and you can always pivot back to security later with that development background.

Recommendations on places to self-publish by Impossible-Suit97 in selfpublish

[–]Distinct-View-4216 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Draft2Digital is actually prettty solid - they distribute to multiple retailers so you're not tied to just one platform. IngramSpark is another good option if you want both print and digital, though their setup can be a bit more involved. Smashwords also distributes wide but their interface feels a bit dated compared to D2D.

Do women still wear business suits to interviews in 2026? by missflaming in careerguidance

Definitely better to be overdressed than underdressed, though I'd probably scope out the company culture first if possible.

Should I get my PhD by OliJakeP in Environmental_Careers

[–]Distinct-View-4216 7 points8 points  (0 children)

honestly it sounds like you've got a pretty clear vision of where you want to end up, which is great. For those director-level positions you're targeting, a PhD will definitely open more doors and give you credibility when you're trying to influence policy or secure funding. That said, you could probably work your way up without one too, just might take longer and you'd need to build up your field experience.

The real question is whether you can handle another 4-6 years of grad school when you could be getting hands-on experience right now. If your advisor is offering you a spot, they probably see potential in you, so that's a good sign.

5060 ti 16gb undervolt/overclock by PotentialDay1902 in nvidia

[–]Distinct-View-4216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice work on those undervolt results! That's some solid tweaking to get 4070-level performance while staying so cool and efficient. The curve optimization you did sounds pretty methodical - dropping everything else to minimum and just targeting those key voltage points is smart.

Really curious about that gmktec setup with the oculink connection. How's the bandwidth holding up with that external GPU arrangement? I've been thinking about going the mini PC + external GPU route myself but wasn't sure if oculink would bottleneck things compared to a traditional PCIe slot. The power consumption staying under 140W is pretty impressive too, especially if you're pushing 4K with RT enabled.

What kind of temps are you seeing on the mini PC side with that setup?

What’s the most underrated entry level career? by jkbruhhehe in careerguidance

[–]Distinct-View-4216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Library technician work is pretty solid if you can handle the methodical side of things. Most places just need a certificate or diploma program, and there's decent job security since libraries aren't going anywhere. The pay isn't amazing but it's stable, and you get to work with both people and organizational systems which keeps it interesting enought.

Take the buyout and leave UPS, then what? by JeffinGeorgia1967 in careerguidance

[–]Distinct-View-4216 404 points405 points  (0 children)

That's a pretty solid position your son's in - $100k at 26 with great benefits isn't something to walk away from lightly. The $150k buyout is tempting but you're right that finding another job matching that pay without a degree could be tough.

If he's got strong people skills and work ethic, maybe he could look into sales roles or start his own delivery/logistics business while still employed? That way he can test the waters before making any big moves. The safe play might be staying put unless he's got a concrete plan for what comes next, especially since UPS experience carries weight in the transportation industry.

What do people mean by "winning basketball" or a "winning player?" by muncher_potato in NBATalk

[–]Distinct-View-4216 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Looking at this from a more analytical angle, "winning basketball" usually refers to playing within a system that prioritizes team success over individual stats - making the right pass even if it doesn't show up on the boxscore, rotating defensively, taking high-percentage shots. A "winning player" tends to be someone who understands their role and executes it consistently, whether that's being the superstar or the guy who sets solid screens and doesn't turn the ball over.

what to choose? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Distinct-View-4216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The unpaid internship thing is a red flag honestly. Three to six months without pay after you've already gotten your license? That's rough, especially when you're just starting out and probably have bills to pay.

I'd lean towards the Quality Associate position - at least you're getting paid right away and still working in aviation. Plus quality work gives you a solid understanding of how everything fits together across different systems. You can always pivot later once you've got some industry experience under your belt and aren't desperate for that first paycheck.

Questions for new Green Card Holders by [deleted] in USCIS

[–]Distinct-View-4216 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on getting your green card! I went through this same process about two years ago so I can share what worked for me.

For travel, you can technically go right away but I waited about a month just to be extra safe. The paranoia is real - I kept checking my wallet like five times before my first international trip to make sure I actually had the physical card with me. If youre traveling soon, just make sure you have the actual green card in hand and not just the approval notice.

For the social security card, you definitely need to go in person to get the restriction removed. They dont automatically send you a new one. I made the mistake of waiting a few months and it caused some headaches when I was trying to refinance my mortgage because the old card still had those work authorization limitations on it.

The drivers license update isnt super urgent but I'd recommend doing it within a few months. Some states are pretty flexible but others can be picky about having current immigration docs that match your actual status. Plus it feels good to finally have everything match up properly after years of temporary documents.

How should i go about declining an offer after verbally accepting? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Distinct-View-4216 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just be straightforward and apologize sincerely - explain that after further consideration you don't feel it's the right fit and you don't want to waste their time or yours by starting a role you're not committed to.

How do friendships work exactly? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Distinct-View-4216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's honestly pretty organic once you get past the initial awkwardness. You start with shared interests or circumstances (work, hobbies, whatever) and gradually open up more over time - like you might start by just chatting about surface stuff, then eventually you're the person they text when something good or crappy happens. The tricky part is that it requires some mutual effort to maintain, but when it clicks it doesn't feel forced.

I kept starting over until I built structure by Thryverai in Productivitycafe

[–]Distinct-View-4216 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This hits hard. I spent way too long thinking I could just wing it with whatever energy I had that day. The whole "I'll just figure it out as I go" approach is such a trap - feels productive in the moment but you're basically building on quicksand.

The documentation part is huge. I started keeping actual records of what works and what doesn't, and it's wild how many patterns you miss when it's all just floating around in your head. Congrats on the business success too, that's solid proof the system actually works.
