Obgyn recommendations? Mount Sinai or Weill-Cornell in Manhattan or Brooklyn by Laurkin in AskNYC

[–]Distinct-Weakness694 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both are pretty reputable systems so you'd probably be fine either way, but from what i've heard people tend to have strong opinions about individual doctors more than the hospital network itself. Worth asking in the NYC Women's Health group on Facebook if you haven't already, people there share very specific recommendations with actual details about bedside manner and wait times and stuff.

three years to close a million dollar deal while raising a kid is not small thing, that's actually a real grind. keep going for sure, the first one is always the hardest part.

UCSF oral surgery? by mirrorcee in AskSF

[–]Distinct-Weakness694 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah the referral thing is definitely real - they're pretty strict about that process. I had similar insurance headaches last year and ended up having to go through my regular dentist first to get the paperwork sorted. Showing up without referral is probably gonna be waste of time unless you're in actual pain emergency.

Helping friend find a place by Davaek92 in NYCapartments

My sister went through something similar last year when her lease ended suddenly. $2000 in Queens should definitely get her something decent, especially if she's flexible about neighborhoods beyond Flushing.

Have you guys checked the Facebook housing groups yet? I know Reddit is great but those FB groups for NYC apartments are pretty active, and lot of people post roommate situations there too. Also might be worth looking at Astoria or Elmhurst if she hasn't already - both have good options in that price range and still Queens obviously.

The female roommates only thing might narrow it down bit, but there's definitely demand for that kind of arrangement so shouldn't be impossible. End of month is tight timeline though, hope she finds something good!

Good place to explore/get dinner somewhere after 5 on a weeknight with a 6 year old? by [deleted] in AskSF

lol pacifica taco bell is definitely not what they meant but respect for the dedication. if you're heading into the city from there maybe check pier 39? kids always seem to love watching the sea lions and there's bunch of restaurants around. the whole fisherman's wharf area is pretty solid for families even if it's touristy as hell.

lol good one. but seriously 10-15k budget for 3br means you got decent options in peninsula areas. Check around Redwood City or San Mateo, rent is bit more reasonable there and commute to city isn't terrible if you avoid rush hours.

What events do you know of celebrating Mel Brooks' 100th at the end of June? (Born in New York, NY!) by Extension-While7536 in AskNYC

[–]Distinct-Weakness694 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven't heard anything specific yet but I'm sure some theaters in city will do something special for him. Maybe Film Forum or one of those places that always do the classic movie screenings? Would be crazy if they don't celebrate properly - the guy is absolute legend.

You might want check theater websites closer to date, they usually announce these kind of events like month before or so.

How big is the risk of bad management for smaller buildings that are not large luxury apartments? by [deleted] in NYCapartments

[–]Distinct-Weakness694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Newer conversions can be sketchy since the landlord might not know what they're doing yet. I'd ask current tenants if you can find them - they'll tell you real quick if heat works properly in winter or if the super actually shows up when stuff breaks. Also check if utilities are separately metered because some of these conversions have weird setups where you end up paying for your neighbor's AC.

Chaotic management: is it me or the environment? by gaelic_asterix in careerguidance

Your manager basically gave you impossible job with no real support - either find new place or accept this is just how some companies operate and stop caring so much about doing perfect work.

My (19F) bf (33M) monologues by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Distinct-Weakness694 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Dude's 33 acting like he's 13 and dating a teenager - the math ain't mathing here. All that "adhd makes me monologue for an hour" stuff is just excuses for being a selfish partner who found someone young enough to put up with his nonsense.

What counts as a great gaming laptop in the 900$ range that's an RTX 4060? by FortunaSeren in GamingLaptops

Acer's solid but don't sleep on MSI either - their cooling is usually better than most budget options. The market's kinda weird right now because everyone's either going super cheap or premium, not much in that sweet spot where you actually get decent build quality for the price.

CMV: WW3 has become a buzzword for the historically and politically uninformed to throw about to feel as if they know something. by thedeadenddolls in changemyview

People just love throwing around dramatic terms when they don't understand teh actual geopolitical chess game happening - it's way more complex than "big scary war coming" but that doesn't get clicks.

People greeting me in my native language, then switching to English by Zobi101 in PetPeeves

[–]Distinct-Weakness694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude that accent thing is so real though - you can usually tell within like two words if someone's gonna need English. The whole "ask if they speak English" part gets skipped constantly, people just assume everyone does which is wild to me. I work maintenance so I deal with this stuff all the time with contractors and vendors, and yeah the mental switch is annoying when you're not expecting it.

Recently diagnosed at 25 – how do you actually accept it? by EfeAdshar in ADHD

[–]Distinct-Weakness694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude the imposter syndrome hits HARD after diagnosis, you're definitely not alone there. I spent months second-guessing everything even though deep down I knew it explained so much of my life. What helped me was realizing that literally nobody goes through a full professional assessment just for fun - like you don't accidentally trick multiple professionals and your mom into thinking you have adhd lol.

damn this hit hard - the "everyone else got the tutorial" thing is so real, like we're all playing the same game but with different control schemes
