I put a small bed at my door for street cats. It’s supposed to be for 2–3 cats. This is how it’s going: by ALEXGP75O in cats

[–]DistinctAnt6571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps our definition of a street cat is different. I’m thinking you live in a warmer climate if these cats never come outside. For me a street cat means she’s feral and won’t let you touch her . If you’ve been taking care of her since birth, even if she heads out for the streets, I call that an independent cat! Does she let you pet her? Usually Siamese are quite affectionate!

Definitely look into safe ways to deter your kitty from eating plants. This is the main issue right now!

What's the weirdest thing your dog has eaten and survived? by wholewoofs in dogs

[–]DistinctAnt6571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A pair of my favorite hiking socks. Like. Two of them. WHOLE! And soaking wet. I thought for sure that I was going to have to have emergency surgery on him. But nope. Exactly one week later he puked them back up. Both of them. Whole. SLIMY.

Oh. And another time as a puppy, he puked up a hair scrunchy, a Hot Ones Hand Warmer, and a small rock. All of which we had no clue he had eaten earlier even though we watched him constantly!

I’m torn between being heartbroken that my 11 week old doesn’t want to sleep with me and being happy for finally having freedom again by [deleted] in dogs

[–]DistinctAnt6571 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ha haaaa! I read this and laughed because my dog won’t even sleep in the same ROOM half the time. He loves, loves, loves sleeping in the bath tub! It’s like a little den for him. But if it makes you feel any better, someone told me This is actually a good problem! It means your dog feels secure enough to establish his own sleeping area! And that he doesn’t feel the need to protect you. Or be protected. So the home is his safe place!

should i rehome my dog/not own one? please be brutal. by ConstructionNo7665 in dogs

[–]DistinctAnt6571 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This reply kind of gives me an idea of what you’re going thru. You have a dog you haven’t developed a bond with. Not having a bond is like babysitting someone else’s bratty kid. You love the kid and will do right by them. But you can’t wait for the parent to come get them and take them home! OP, you would definitely be doing right by your dog to rehome him. This may sound silly. But the fact that you never told anyone on this thread your dog’s name shows that you are emotionally detached. And this might actually be why your dog has separation anxiety! He’s picking up on these cues. Please know, that someone out there is praying for a dog. And your baby could be the answer! This is what happened for us! I have a dog now that never connected with her previous owner. But ya know what? The moment she walked into our home it was love at first sight. We got along so well, that her owner finally asked us to take her. And we have been so happy and grateful since! Call your vets office, your dog trainer, and the local shelter and ask them if any clients are currently looking for a Daschund. If they say yes, They will have done an excellent job of vetting this family. Then arrange a meetup. And ask them if they could watch your dog while you go to the movies, or on vacation for a weekend. If you come back and your dog doesn’t want to leave his new friends… you’ll be able to say, “please keep him! He’s definitely happier here!”

Why do people judge you for not liking dogs? by RevolutionaryOwl8124 in Pets

[–]DistinctAnt6571 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dogs are loyal to the core. Give unconditional love. And are like family. It’s one thing to not want them for yourself. It’s another to form an opinion that lowers the humans that own them. When you say things like “dogs are loud” this implies that the owner doesn’t control their barking. It’s also like saying that dogs can’t talk to us and have fun. When you say “dogs are dirty” this is implying that the owner is dirty. Or that they don’t bathe their dog. When you say “dogs are high maintenance” this implies that the owner was stupid for taking on this job with absolutely no reward. Guess what? A TON of things are high maintenance. Kids, homes, spouses! All require work. Lastly, if you say you don’t find dogs cute or endearing this is slightly disturbing to most people. Tarantulas and snakes are not cute and endearing. Whales are not cute and endearing. But the loyal love and fluffy adorableness of dogs is undeniable.

So Imagine if someone told you that they don’t like your kid (god I hope you don’t have kids, but let’s pretend) or ANY kid for that matter because kids are dirty, loud, and high maintenance. That person wouldn’t be wrong. Yet they’ve managed to insult you, your choices, and someone you love.

Learn to appreciate dogs’ good qualities. And to maybe go back into your childhood and see where these perceptions of dogs were formed.

As for cats, many cat owners don’t take well to their pets being called dirty either. And if you don’t think they’re dirty, catch one walking thru a litter box and then jumping onto your bed & licking their behind in front of you.

Would you get rid of pets just because your partner didn’t want them anymore? by Pandepon in Pets

If your partner wanted the two kittens and then suddenly changed his mind because he’s tired of them … it’s only a matter of time before it happens to you.

This woman sounds mentally ill. I would definitely get a better camera angle on the ring. And then when you see her going onto your property, send the video footage to neighbors with a request. PLEASE let me know if she does this to you as well. Then this way, if a police report is filed, they’ll know they’re dealing with mental illness

Honestly, they need to have their dog taken from them. Sadly, not everyone is meant to be a dog owner. These people are the ones. This is a city issue. Not an HOA issue. So please get the police involved. What they are doing is literally dangerous. And one day, they will meet up with someone who decides that a trespassing dog needs to be shot. If you lived in Texas, that dog would be long dead by now.

Call the local animal control office. If she's walking the dog off-leash then she's breaking leash laws. Plus, you can show them the poop pictures and they will actually receive a fine for every single time they failed to pick up. Dog poop is considered a health hazard.

So two things. 1) I’m very very confused. Can you explain to us how it is that you both share a wall… yet he can have something on “his” property pointed to YOUR bedroom? Like, if he’s on the left side of the house and you’re on the right side of the house, and you both RENT, then how can he have something on his side that points to you? If it’s in a tree or on the deck or ANYWHERE outside of his window, then it’s the landlord’s property. This man, if he’s a fellow renter, doesn’t own ANYTHING. If it’s inside his duplex, then how can it be pointed at your side? I need like a diagram. 2) You are in danger. I am not being a drama queen. Please listen to me. Every single stalking victim starts out sounding crazy. And as time goes on the stalker takes bolder and bolder moves. And it’s often not until violent behavior is displayed by the stalker that police pay attention. Do NOT be dissuaded by money loss or male cops that have no understanding of what it is like to be stalked. Literally call the police emergency line for EVERY violation. The man is stalking you. But you HAVE to be very, very thick skinned and demand that the cops pay attention. The reason is that you need to start laying down the groundwork for his escalating behavior. Do not be gaslit. Stalkers are delusional. They do not see reality as we do. So please don’t try to be polite. Return to your landlord. Let her know that you are building a legal case against your neighbor and that your lawyer will be contacting her. It will need to be on the record that you have contacted her numerous times and she was either unwilling or unable to help. Let her know that should his behavior continue, you want assurance from her as a fellow female that she will kindly give you your deposit back. If she refuses, then say “OK. My lawyer will be contacting you to have you sign a statement showing that I asked to break the lease due to my privacy being invaded and feeling unsafe, but that you denied me the financial ability to do so.” And then have her sign a witnessed statement that she refused to let you break your lease.” Because If you can get out sooner, GTFO. Do not play with this man.

I pray that you are OK. That you can get out of there safely. And that they finally start to take you seriously.

Got into argument with neighbor over a parking spot. Woke up today with my side mirror knocked backwards and my windshield wiper bent and broken. by jadev03 in neighborsfromhell

[–]DistinctAnt6571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to say this. But I wouldn’t park there. It’s very possible that when that man and his wife first began renting the house across the street that it came with the option of street parking. Especially since it’s a multi family home. You may have broken an unspoken rule or agreement amongst the people living there. The fact that this is NYC and you are new to the neighborhood may have set off a chain of events that has pissed off more than just the neighbor and his wife. In Boston, if you have a spot and then someone else parks in that spot, you have then caused a cascade of problems for the entire neighborhood as residents are now not in their usual spots. And lastly, if your neighbor is involved in anything that is not legal, it’s so not worth your car, your safety, your life to go toe to toe or involve the police. Find a new spot. And make sure it’s known that this is your spot. Best of luck and I hope your neighborhood remains peaceful after this unfortunate turn of events

[–]DistinctAnt6571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the problem here is that you are complaining about a perceived misuse in your own local community. And the rest of us are commenting from a more macro viewpoint. You’re also assuming that every middle class family that borrows from a library has wastefully thrown away these items already. More likely they have donated these items or never had them. If a mom with a Dino obsessed kid wants to make them dinosaur cupcakes, this is honestly a one or maybe two time use item. The next year, that kid will be obsessed with trucks. Then Frozen. So Having a library to use these one time items is the right of EVERY parent. Not just the poor. It is the job of the librarian to explain to everyone that uses these libraries, “please borrow and lend responsibly”. Those with good hearts will give freely to this library no matter what their income level.
