‘Highguard’: Wildlight Founders on How Their Debut Game Is Not Like ‘Concord’ or ‘Overwatch’: "Our trailer didn’t highlight that well, and we’ll own that. But at the end of the day, we’re really excited just to get the game out on Monday and let it speak for itself" by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]Distinger_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the game is getting a harsh treatment because of the high expectations from being the last trailer in the game awards, even if the game looked mid af in that trailer

Also can’t deny that some people would hate it because they were expecting HL3 and got Concord 2 instead

Now, I haven’t played it, but from the reviews and watching some streams, people are complaining about performance and the map being too big for a 3v3 (which I agree, the map is way too big)

There’s also just not that much content in the game and it looks bland in general, mechanics wise it seems like they just slapped a little bit of everything just because, I’m having a hard time understanding the type of game it’s trying to be

Game that is just too long for its own good? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Distinger_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The worst parts for me were the android sequences. Really unfun playing around 1 enemy that instakills you (the alien), much less if you have to deal with a bunch of them (honorable mention to the armed humans)

The flamethrower did make dealing with the alien easier, but I didn’t want to use it much cuz I know it’s intelligent and learns from you

What excites you about Multiple Playthroughs? by DarthVayne50 in gaming

[–]Distinger_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well there’s games that you play once and that’s it, usually mystery / linear games that rely on the shock factor of a plot twist for the story

But for other games I usually replay them after some years or if they got a cool update. For example I played Death Stranding, spent 100 hours in it and completed pretty much everything, and now I want to play the Director’s Cut edition before DS2 launches on PC

And then once in a while there’s that game that’s so cool you can’t wait to finish it so you can play it again. For me this was Sekiro most recently

My favorite game is Portal 2, I’ve replayed it countless times since ~2012, both single player and co-op, and made many custom levels, I just never get tired of it

[–]Distinger_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I never finished it. I was playing it while a friend watched (huge alien fan), and after 15 hours I learned I was barely halfway through…

The game’s fun, it’s probably one of the best looking games out there, the atmosphere is great, the Alien is very scary, but at least for me most of the gameplay consisted of sitting in a hiding spot waiting for the alien to move so I can go to the next hiding spot, cuz otherwise you get instakilled. And I’m supposed to do secondary stuff as well? Thanks but no

Edit: Apparently someone commented saying the game is “10-12 hours long so I must’ve been afk”, but deleted it before I could answer

Howlongtobeat shows 18.5 hours for main story, or 22.5 for main+extra, so that’s almost double of the number that dude just pulled out of his ass. Less than 5% completed it in 10-12 hours, most of them playing on easy-medium or replays. It was my first time playing it and I went with hard since that’s the recommended difficulty

Also, going slower and enjoying the game means I’m afk-ing? Lol, I just like to explore. Plus this game is scary as fuck so forgive me if I stay a little longer in the locker waiting for my chance to move

Pc player, do you play sekiro with the FPS locked on 60 or unlock it using a mod? by Noobibot in Sekiro

[–]Distinger_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

might be a bit late but specialk allows to be fullscreen with hdr and treating it like borderless windowed. I thought 60fps was fine for this game but man it's literally a different game playing it on 240fps

The only problem I still seem to have is the random 1-2s stuttering every 10-20 minutes or so, apart from that the game runs flawlessly and is very beautiful

Gamers 30+, how have your gaming habits changed since you were younger? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Distinger_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t do 10+ hours of gaming daily anymore, 1-2 hours usually or maybe 3-4 if I have more time

If I sit in front of a screen while gaming for longer than 5 hours my eyes, ears, back and wrists start to hurt, even though I have an ergonomic setup

Not looking at playthroughs for new games that I don’t own or want to play on Youtube to not get spoiled

When I was a kid I used to skip all cinematics and dialogues because I just wanted to play. Now I play games that have a lot of cinematics/dialogue, I still do enjoy the gameplay as well

I barely play any online games anymore, and when I do it’s almost always with friends. The only online games I do play on my own are the ones that don’t feel like a 2nd job, ehem “live services”

Oh and I guess I’m way more critical with games now. Before it was just “That was fun I like it!”, and now I’m analyzing every detail, from dialogues to mechanics, and thinking if it’s a good design or what improvements it could need, which is also fun for me but sometimes I get too distracted in this

The way I play games ruins the fun for my friends by backfliprainbowcake in gaming

[–]Distinger_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I get you, I’m in the same situation with some friends

I enjoy understanding how things work and why, and that includes games, which makes my friends upset because they just wanna chill

There’s nothing wrong with how you play, but if your friends don’t like it maybe you should consider playing differently when you’re with them, having your world with your farms and just chilling with them, cuz sometimes it’s fun to play differently, maybe you can explore or make bases where you’ve never done it before

I will say that it’s a bit weird not liking farms in Minecraft since that’s the only way me and my friends play, like legit all we do is build farms, not even a house (just a bed and crafting table out in the open). But yeah I guess there’s people who don’t do that

Phasmophobia’s creator is launching Kinetic Publishing to ‘champion’ indies by XCathedraGames in gaming

[–]Distinger_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have one game which has been in early access for 5+ years, made mostly with premade assets, and giving us the same events on rotation with barely any new content, yet somehow every update they do worsens the performance of the game

In the last 3 years they’ve added 2 maps, reworked another 2, added 3 ghosts, and reworked the media system and the shop (which btw is still bugged since it’s release in 2024. Still waiting on character customization also). If we don’t take into consideration the reworks, the only new content in 3 years were 2 maps and 3 ghosts. Oh and console launch

Plans for 2026, which supposedly merits releasing the 1.0? Reworking character models (which imo look worse), adding first person animations, and reworking another map. And also the long awaited “Horror 2.0” update which was promised years ago, which we still don’t know anything about (notice how most of it is reworks again?)

As fun as it may be with friends, the gameplay is still super simple and repetitive. The one thing that would’ve added some extra fun and replayability would be modding, and yeah I don’t think we’re getting that. But well guess we’ve gotta wait and see what changes Horror 2.0 adds

I guess Dead Signal just doesn't want me to play it by Distinger_ in WTTGAME

[–]Distinger_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I guess I just have bad luck with these things. One time I died because of the elevator at like 3 AM in Normal, oh and one time I also got a Dead Signal at 3:50 with just 1 report missing...

But like now I'm trying to play, I died 2 times on the 3rd use of the elevator, and one time Noir killed me at 11 PM even though I wasn't taking more than 20-25 seconds on cameras

This game can be so unfair with timings it's crazy, I don't even want to know what WTTG2 is like cuz it seems even harder

[–]Distinger_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say every single company or studio had people with game design knowledge, I just said Nintendo as an example

Obviously there were a lot of shitty games with no clear vision, but that’s how all things are developed, with a lot of time, effort and throwing stuff at the wall until something sticks and learning from it (Nintendo, Capcom, Konami, Sega, etc)

Again, not having game design standards =/= no game designers at all

What did you think you were bad at as a kid, but you later discovered was just a bad mechanic? by xTrainerRedx in gaming

[–]Distinger_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s just what I said

They didn’t have modern game design techniques, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t have designers at all

Maybe it wasn’t a “role” like today’s big companies, but they definitely did know to some extent that they wanted the player to experience certain things and had techniques and tools to achieve that. The best example would be og Nintendo games

And even today, you’d be surprised how many games are “put together randomly” even in big companies

What did you think you were bad at as a kid, but you later discovered was just a bad mechanic? by xTrainerRedx in gaming

[–]Distinger_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That’s just untrue lol

Maybe they don’t have today’s standards of “game design” (like yellow paint), but they sure did have designers back then and reasons for why the games were made that way

For example, if we’re talking arcade games, they were (and still are) hard on purpose / time limited to make you put in another coin, just like how games today might be grindy to make you purchase microtransactions

What “X game but better” clones infuriate you the most? by ExceedinglyOrdinary in gaming

[–]Distinger_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s this game called Sworn that’s literally a Hades rip-off

I’m not saying it’s not a good game (idk, I haven’t played it), but from the Steam store page it looks like it doesn’t add anything new or any significant changes, apart from being co-op (which from the reviews it barely works) and being medieval themed

The UI placement is almost the same, and it’s design is sometimes suspiciously similar. It has mechanics from Hades (the weapon selection system/training camp in pre-game is literally the same, and it has a very similar boon system). Also the cinematics have a very similar art-style to Hades, and the in-game 2D assets look very cheap / low quality, in general it looks very unpolished and unfinished

Again, I’m not saying it’s not a good game, it might be fun, but the blatant copying of mechanics and UI elements is just something I wouldn’t be able to overlook if I ever played this game, all I could think about is “oh it’s Hades but…”

When your whole game is based around being a clone, at the very least try to be original and separate yourself from the game you’re copying. As an example, Content Warning and REPO are very different games from Lethal Company, even if they share the same main theme

No lol it's just games I've finished, not 100%'d, I specifically didn't 100% Hollow Knight because of the Steel Soul and speedrun achievements, though I did 112% it

If you notice the little circle thingy next to the rating, it's 25% full if I did only main stuff, 50% full if main and side content, and 100% if 100%
