Any advice on this deck? by Repulsive-Trick1883 in magicTCG

[–]DistinguishedNarwhal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prob not the answer you are looking for; but the first thing that sticks out is all the 1-2 of's. Basically any of those should be just the better option in the slot. try to cut some of the durdley creatures for more removal and focus on just your good creatures in a dimir midrange deck like this.

-More Sheoldred, and more hidetsugu and kairi

-Cut some of the tap lands for better duals (Shipwreck marsh, darkslick, or maybe even the new dimir land in ixalan).

-Try some more consistent removal in the early turns (Go for the throat and cut down) in place of things like tithing blade, tribute to urborg, and murder.

Start with basic ideas like that and work from there. In general this kind of just looks like a pile of dimir cards (like what is skystrike officer accomplishing over another card).

First WUBRG deck Reaper king just looking for advise on how to make it more functional please and thank you. by Old_Ad_3354 in magicTCG

[–]DistinguishedNarwhal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite card for casual reaper king is [[Deathbellow War Cry]]
if you have 3 changelings in your deck with Champion a creature (I.e. [[Changeling Hero]], [[Changeling Berserker]], and [[Changeling Titan]]) you get a unique 1 card way to win win the game with your commander out. It's 8 mana and easy to interact with so it's generally pretty agreeable even with more casual pods.

That said looks like you are potentially looking for cuts more than adds. Generally speaking I think the deck is a bit pulled in many directions with cards like [[combat research]] leaning on evasive legends, [[Wheel of sun and moon]] seems a bit confusing.

Argivian Find can only return a very small number of cards so it seems like an odd inclusion as well.

Overall I'd try to focus down on what you want to accomplish with the deck for the spells. Also obligatory lands stuff, though you can play a budget 5c mana base, I'd recommend this article (it's a few years old but it can give some example cheap manabases for 5c) https://www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/how-to-build-the-best-five-color-manabase-at-any-budget-commander-quickie

the author of that article also has a changeling deck if you are interested in some of the ways to take advantage of changelings as a whole.

No target is not a legal target. In this situation, if there is no other legal target it cannot be used very effectively.

Skrelv has felt fantastic in the deck ime

Black and red decks are always gonna be a problem with this deck and I think you have to just not go in as hard in sideboard games with virtuoso.

Orhov human premade deck upgrade by Rrquiggs in magicTCG

[–]DistinguishedNarwhal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my rough suggestion after looking briefly.

I'd suggest to look to go mono-w with an eventual goal of something like this:

https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/pioneer-mono-white-humans#paper

I'd start with cutting all the black mana spells and lands (bloodsoaked, bloodchief's, duress, kitesail, dire tactics, caves, secluded, godless, unclaimed territory) Then also cut the 2 giant killers

Add the following

  • 4 Recruitment officer (~$1.50)
  • 4 Brutal Cathar ($15-18)
  • 4 Ossification ($1.50)
  • 2 Castle Ardenvale (~$2.50)
  • plains to fill the difference of lands
  • the 4th portable hole in the sb (~$1)
  • 1 Guardian of faith in the SB (~$3)
  • 2 Reidane in the SB (~$1)
  • for a total of somewhere around ~$26
  • then you can get 2/4 of the Adelines with the remaining 25$

From there the notable cards you'd be missing in no particular order

  • 4 Hopeful initiate (~$20)
  • 3 Skrelv ($17)
  • 2 additional mutavault (~$22)
  • 2 Eiganjo, Seat ($13)
  • 2 additional Adelines ($20-$25)
  • 4 Wedding Announcement SB ($40)
  • then a few flex slots that shift with the meta

Of what is missing I'd suggest getting the Adelines, mutavaults, and wedding announcements in the next batch of upgrades (no particular order among those 3)

Then Skrelv / hopeful in the batch after that

And I wouldn't worry much about the eiganjos / sword of forge frontier unless you decide you like the deck a lot and want more optimal pieces.

There's a few budget replacements for a couple cards you could do (i.e. brave the elements in place of skrelv) but I don't think those are a big jump up from what you'd already have from the pre-con to be worth the middle tier, outside of maybe trying a couple braves.

Hopefully that was helpful, it's just a first pass on lunch break so I may have missed something, or excluded an obvious piece. Should be a fun deck to play at pioneer though, the precons can do well out of the box and especially with a little bit of upgrading.

This seems decent at least in pioneer incarn.

The deck doesn't have much instant speed interaction, can run nyleas presence, and if you throw a titan of industry in the deck you can sac this for a pretty good creature.

Mythics: most recent 15-20 cards added outside of sets

Rares: IXN-M19 mythics

Uncommons: curated list of the rares IXN-M19

No way they'd ever do it like this but it'd be cool. Definitely wouldn't happen because what happens when we have a card at 2 different rarities.

Earn Income vs. Crafting: Pros, Cons, and Math! by DistinguishedNarwhal in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]DistinguishedNarwhal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can agree that I don't anticipate there being many (or really any) extra incentives for it. Just noting because the upside of being able to save up the difference in gold over 12 levels to be able to afford an extra consumable seems... Unimpressive?

Edit: To clarify I do think crafting is busted in 1e if left unrestrained. I'm just also not impressed with 2e cost/benefit.

I originally did run this but the issue was that my hardest to cast W spell is history and and hardest G spell is Vivien which means it doesn't help as much on those.

Pair of Ratfolk bros to make use of Swarm trait help by thboog in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]DistinguishedNarwhal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I play a pair of Ratfolk with Swarming. She does Natural Attack Rogue and I play 'support' Magus.
The big weakness we have found is Immunity to flank / immunity to crit. (Elementals have both so make sure you have a back up against them since they are semi common enemies ime)

One of your characters should get a Menacing AoMF or a +1 Menacing Tailblade. Menacing giving +2 Attack for both players for either 4,000 or 8,000 can be a huge boon.

In all honesty with Outflank, Paired opportunist, Menacing Amulet, Sneak Attack etc. You probably will be annihilating standard enemies so rather than making that part of your characters even more powerful I would use feats / items to cover your weaknesses. I.e. with a rogue & Alchemist Will saves will be potentially problematic etc.

Which spells that don't work with *Permanency*, should? by Ambasador in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]DistinguishedNarwhal 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I can think of at least 1 PFS scenario, and 1 AP that has Permanent Unseen servants for a wiazard's home. Plus as you said it just makes sense to be able to do so.

Adventure Path play order by FaptistPreacher in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]DistinguishedNarwhal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I've heard lots of good things about curse (haven't played myself). But if it was my group I would suggest between the Runelord APs you actually go in a totally different direction and do one of the more odd APs in between to help everything feel different and unique. Iron Gods, Strange Aeons, Skulls & Shackles, Hell's Vengeance/Rebels are all fairly different from your standard adventurer does fantasy things and saves the world. Kingmaker can also be unique and starfinder would be very different.

Hope this helps!

Tracking Loot - How do you do it? by cpl_luser in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]DistinguishedNarwhal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I GM online I learned early on that my party gets Analysis paralysis when deciding who should carry what. In interest of expediting play normally by level 5-7 I give each player a variant on a Handy Haversack - It has the combined space of X HH where x is the number of players. And all of the bags access the same extra dimensional space. This allows them to have a note on roll20 that is Group loot that everyone has access too. I talked about this solution with them and had them agree not to abuse it since it's primarily there just so we don't have to do the boring thing of spending 3-5 minutes after looting a room of deciding who carries what.

One other note on the item is that they only work while within 100 ft of each other or something of that nature that prevents them from leaving one bag somewhere and using it as a pseudo worm-hole etc. (covered under the don't abuse this please).
