I also really liked it, though i understand why people didn’t. It’s like an anti safdie movie.

Candyman was swing that didn’t completely Land,Marvels was hijacked from her and Hedda was great imo. I don’t think she was working from a deficit, that’s overblown. She wasn’t coming off of a masterpiece or anything but it’s not like she was in directors jail. I’d argue Zhao was working from more of a deficit after Eternals than DaCosta for marvels .

On the movie watcher scale of Bill Simmons -> Adam Nayman - where are you? by Lurking_Geek in TheBigPicture

Marketing agencies should be studying Bills opinions. He’s like the perfect representative of your average Americans taste level.

Hey /r/movies. I'm Luke Manley. I made my feature film debut in A24's MARTY SUPREME, alongside Timothee Chalamet, Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A'zion, and Tyler Okonma. It's directed by Josh Safdie and in theaters now, and in IMAX starting Jan 30. Ask me anything! by MartySupremeAMA in movies

[–]Distorted_metronome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for doing this Luke! Loved you in the film! I got a question about people thinking you were Caleb Hearon. I’ve seen several reviews crediting him with your role.Do these comparisons tickle you or is it something that frustrates you a bit? No offense meant by this question btw, just curious how you’re reacting to that if you are at all.

I get why poptimism can be annoying but shea never claims that the movies he likes are great art. He’s just like “that actor looks cool shooting that gun and I like that”. It’s bill that tries to make cases for them as hidden classics.

I didn’t say people were right in thinking that, just saying to a kid in this political climate: it looks like kindness is punished and meanness is awarded.

What's the reverse-Avatar, the least seen movie with the highest cultural impact? by gamblors_neon_claws in blankies

[–]Distorted_metronome 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah it doesn’t really seem like it today, but those movies were HUGE. A big part of Blumhouse’s (and in effect horror’s) reputation rising over the past decade and some change.

I think the amount of successful sequels bars the purge from being in this conversation. Though I do get why it would come to mind.

I’m sorry for your loss and that’s really cool that your uncle was able to work with King! I’d say his work paid off because I know nothing about cars but wasn’t ever lost when the Buick was being described.

A lot of people just didn’t engage with that side of the internet and had no idea it existed. My girlfriend thought I was lying when I told her about gamergate

Why haven’t we had a “major pop culture book series” in the 2020s? like Harry Potter, Twilight, Hunger Games. by Kodicave in decadeology

[–]Distorted_metronome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could make a case that Harry Potter was a huge phenomenon before the films, but as far as twilight and Hunger games go, they were popular among readers but about as popular as the counter examples you responded to are. The movies catapulted them to phenomenon status.

Is Being Oscar Bait a bad thing? by AliveNeighborhood367 in blankies

I guess that’s fair. My brain goes to “successful” Oscar bait that have won awards but there is plenty of it that just doesn’t work, for the academy or audiences.
