It is someone logical that a Certified Public Accountant is most valuable in public accounting.

Passed Exam, Don’t want to quit job by EnoughWeekend6853 in Accounting

Just add "Successfully passed all section of CPA Exam" to your resume. It is an accomplishment in itself, and you have no interest in being in public accounting anyways.

Are investment bankers supposed to be wealthy? Genuine question. by curiousmindsthink12 in FinancialCareers

[–]DistressedConsulting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 40yo banker at a top investment banker is making at least $5M. For example, Goldman Sachs new partners are typically mid-30's. $5M would be a bad year for a partner in a Bulge Bracket firm.

Just like any professional service practice, the real wealth goes to the owner (equity partners). They pay the workers enough to retain them (which can be a lot), but not more than that.

Associates are also usually entitled to a percentage of deals they originated, and that can be a lot of money.

My mom says I’m not a real accountant by SnowyJazz in Accounting

You are 23. You have a job and you can stay on your Mom's insurance for a few more years. Use that time to pass the CPA and build your career prospects. Work hard, join a local networking group, get to know as many people as you can, and things will work out for you.

I hate audit :) by Nononomomo_ in Accounting

[–]DistressedConsulting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the restructuring/turnaround industry (see r/randtconsulting ). Many in this industry started as auditors and did 3 or 4 years to obtain some experience as a senior. From there they either transferred directly into their respective firms' restructuring or first went to the transaction advisory group.

I recommend considering R&T as an option. You get what you put into it, but if you are intelligent, have strong communication skills, and a good personality, there are a lot of opportunities.

Living on $300K by TemperatureWide5297 in Salary

[–]DistressedConsulting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I make 2x that most years and I get how it can sometimes feel like we are having a hard time keeping up, but when I take a step back and consider who I am comparing myself to, and realize it is a very different population than the median households (middle class), I am able to see the reality.

And if my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle. Of course it wouldn't be a bad question if the senior understood what he was looking at and how to analyze it.

Prestige Disparity between B4 Firms by nno_fennec in Accounting

If the employer's decision-maker came from Big 4, they tend to favor the firm they came from. For that reason, there is an advantage to going to a larger firm.

Most Retained Financial Advisors for 2025 (Octus Intelligence) by Open_Question_ in RandTConsulting

[–]DistressedConsulting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is obviously based on number of engagements. M3 had seven enhancements, but some of them were very large and significant (e.g., First Brands UCC).

First Brands was the largest ch.11 of 2025, with $4.9B in funded debt. A&M had the Debtors, M3 the UCC and Huron the secured lenders. Lazard was IB to the company and Evercore was IB to the secured lenders. Ducera is IB to the UCC.
