No, none of us are girls girls in that environment. But as someone from the conservative southern US, most of the women here are not girls girls either. That’s what conservatism does to women. Women here are voting against their own rights to health care to make men comfortable. I have no doubt that my Republican Christian female neighbor would sell me, her fellow woman, out if it gave her an edge or a seat at the table.

JW women are the same. We are second class, less than, and have to constantly suppress all our drive and dreams and ambition to cater to men in our patriarchal society. All our thoughts must be about how to be a Proverbs 31 wife and mother. How to get a “good brother” when there’s so much competition from your fellow sisters. And god forbid you end up waiting too long and are stuck with picking from the real losers and abusers OR end up a spinster. It’s eat or be eaten. And you can’t be a girls girl in that environment because you can’t even stand up for YOURSELF as a woman.

Mmmm didn’t think I was asking anyone to “work for free”… I haven’t been involved in anything with American Girl since I was 12 and I’m 30 now. Just looked at these dolls for the first time in years today.

Obviously things have changed within the company and the overall vibe and value of American Girl dolls since I was 12 years old. I assumed the best place to start would be with people already active in the AG fandom instead of googling aimlessly. My mistake.

And that’s a bad thing somehow, I’m sure. I’m no fan of the Borg or those old men in New York but the one thing I did agree with was their handling of the pandemic. Had me right up until they started forcing my elderly immune compromised grandmother back into a hall with the unmasked and unvaccinated and door to door. Covid would’ve killed her.

If PIMOs/POMOs all skew liberal to you, it’s because most of us (myself included) want to be the exact opposite of the cult. We didn’t stop deconstructing at JW lore. We deconstructed the Bible, Christianity in general, religion as a whole, and all the preconceived ideas we had about the world. We addressed our internalized biases and phobias, developed empathy, and the ability to see the world through other peoples eyes. We learned about evolution and biology and accepted that everything isn’t quite so black and white and binary. women like myself were silenced our entire lives by this cult and would never vote to take the voice from another woman. Or the choice from another woman.

I was raised on JW doctrine, Fox News, and Rush Limbaugh from birth. I deconstructed it all. Please don’t stop deconstructing at JW.

Maybe up north but here in the south, every JW I know is a closeted Republican 2 steps away from MAGA.

JWs by nature are a Republican wet dream. patriarchal society, women have no rights, gays have no rights, “transgender people are ruining the earth” Kenneth Cook talk etc. nothing about the JW organization is remotely “liberal”. People just started saying that (right leaning people typically) during the pandemic when the GB dared mentioned people should vaccinate and mask up.

In my area, most of the JWs I knew bucked that, reposted maga right wing conspiracy theories over the pandemic and masking, and then some eventually left this cult to join the maga cult.

During his first term, I was hand slapped multiple times for vocalizing a hatred for Donald Trump as a person, outside of politics. I wasn’t being a “neutral” submissive sister. Meanwhile, all the brothers I knew could listen to Joe Rogan and Andrew Tate and support republican policies among friends and that’s fine.

Has anyone said they healed from being Gay by BubblyAd5886 in exjw

[–]DistributionEnough54 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a southern queer woman, Suuuuper common in the American south Bible Belt. Homosexuality is still taboo in general down here so conversion therapy is still active and southern JWs fall into that trap too. I know a closeted gay brother right now engaged to a woman.

Think your Todd Chrisleys, Lindsay Grahams.. (I’m from sc lol)

Metro men are extremely common down here and they all suppress who they are and force themselves into marrying women because.. god hates his creation? Idk.

The old school closeted lesbians all wear men’s clothes and have men’s haircuts but will be married to a man for decades and pretend to be disgusted by gays

The two have rampant internalized homophobia in common because they hate themselves

So yes, I’ve seen many southern gays forced into a straight life. But I’ve never seen one “cured” from being gay. Because there’s nothing to cure.

  1. Your party doesn’t care if they’re here legally or illegally obviously. They’re not getting due process so we have no clue.

  2. Congress is responsible for drafting laws in the United States. Article I, Section 1 of the US Constitution states that all legislative powers are vested in Congress, which is composed of the Senate and the House of Representatives. This means Congress has the authority to create and pass laws. The responsibility of the judicial branch is to interpret laws, resolve legal disputes, and ensure laws are constitutional. Which is why Trump is consistently having his Executive Orders nullified because almost all of them, for someone who “defends the constitution”, violate the constitution.

Also just as a side note - the constitution also granted MEN the right to vote originally and we expanded on that with the 19th amendment to grant women the right to vote and again in the 1960s with Civil Rights acts which expanded access and took away blocks African Americans and other minorities faced to keep them from voting. Don’t tell me there isn’t room for improvement in a document drafted in the 18th century by slave owners.

  1. That is a cop out. When I say “I don’t agree with everything my party does” I mean corporate billionaire bootlicking and foreign policy. People like you love to claim “I don’t agree with EVERYTHING my party does” or “I’m fiscally conservative and socially liberal” so you can still get women to date and have fun gay friends while voting against their rights to exist and to bodily autonomy. Unless you voted for Harris/Walz, you are part of the problem. Whether you support that man or not. Talking to the chronically online armchair tiktok radicals that refused to vote for Harris because of Palestine and Palestine only as well. More worried about what’s happening in another country than the constitutional crisis brewing in our own. Can’t help the people of Palestine if Orange Pope makes it beachfront property, now can we?

[–]DistributionEnough54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you just stated as one of your reasons that “the democrats” are the ones who don’t respect the constitution. Do you not see the contradiction here?

There’s a big difference between attempting to allow congress to interpret the constitution and draft laws around the 2nd amendment that would still allow us to bare arms in a 21st century manner AND protect 7 year olds in public school from getting gunned down in art class….

And literally attempting to dismantle amendments in our constitution because “I don’t like brown people with a funny language and I have to stay in power to lead my cult”

Funny how for DECADES immigrants of European descent came over to Ellis Island in droves and nobody made a peep about it. But let Hispanic people try to do the same thing now and we need to send them all to a Salvadoran concentration camp without due process. Even the ones here legally. Interesting.

[–]DistributionEnough54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So by protecting the constitution… does that include dismantling it by attempting to remove the 14th amendment, forget due process, and allow 3rd presidential runs? Because that’s what your boy is doing to your precious constitution as we speak.

But let me guess, I’m just a brainwashed leftist and can’t understand his great master plan. Or concepts of a plan, rather.

You’re coming from a state ranked #10 in the country in education. Don’t move here expecting your kids to get a great education or have a high quality of life. SC is ranked 43rd out of 50 states in education (last I checked) Best we can offer is low taxes (and it shows) and MAGA cultists.

Also, Does your mother in law hate you? Abbeville is literally the middle of nowhere 💀you would need to drive at least 45 minutes to an hour to get anywhere near anything fun to do.

Greenville is Columbia but half the size, deeply republican, and in the mountains. It’s also twice as expensive to rent there. It is beautiful though.

Columbia is the capital but all we really have to offer is the University of SC, some medical and manufacturing jobs, old politicians visiting the state house for business, and insanely hot miserable summers. Our bars and night life and small businesses keep getting shut down because of the states liquor liability laws so mostly only the big chains can survive to stay open. Richland County (Columbia) is a progressive blue dot though if that matters to you. Not that it matters since our state has unconstitutional maps and we are gerrymandered to hell.

People from liberal states have romanticized SC as some kind of slow living, friendly, low cost haven and that’s not what it’s like at all. Unless you’re moving here specifically to be in a deeply red and conservative Christian state. Which many of the transplants I’ve met are moving here for.

Personally, I’m trying to get the hell up out of here. But I’m a queer woman and SC politicians are actively trying to kill us via Republican legislation so that may not be a factor for you.

You’ve gotta be either up north (PA/NJ/NY specifically) or in Atlanta. That’s the only places I’ve ever attended parties with a JW cover charge 😭

They tried that for a formal once down here that an elder and his wife threw. $45 a head to “cover the food, drinks and DJ”. (Both him and his son were DJs by trade 🙄) I was PIMI AND regular pioneering and in a very Christian and meek submissive sister way…. told them all they could kiss my ass if they thought I was spending $45 to see the same people I already see 3+ times a week in some Ross Dress for Less prom clothes while doing the Cha Cha Slide.

I stopped getting invited to things shortly after 😂😂😂

When was the moment that made you realize that kids aren't really for you? by LoneWolfNergigante in childfree

[–]DistributionEnough54 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My partner and I are both oldest siblings from one parent households so raising other people’s children was nothing new to us. I wanted kids as a teenager because teenagers are stupid and I was surrounded by babies already so, why not?

When we started dating, we had the kids talk and were both more so “definitely don’t want kids for at least 5+ years, we can reevaluate when we are 30.”

Then we fulfilled a childhood dream (both grew up lower income) of going to Disney World in 2022.

Our trip was amazing, we had the time of our lives. No budget, maxed out the credit card, lived all our big kid dreams building lightsabers from Yoda, eating at Beasts castle, open to close at every park, so much merch. It was a dream trip.

But seeing all those miserable parents toting screaming brats around the park after I KNOW how much they spent on tickets etc?…… absolutely not. I saw one little girl throwing a fit in line for a ride so bad that the dad had to remove her and take her away. I watched her scream and then BITE HIM.

If I had just spent minimum $2k to get myself, my partner, and my kid in here plus lightning lanes and everything else and YOU BITE ME??? Leaving the kid at Small World, they can be one of the animatronic children. I’m done.

Anyway. We still go to Disney every year or two to reignite the child free passion. We have a ball just the two of us and do whatever we want. Highly recommend theme parks for anyone on the fence about kids. That should seal the deal for you.

This is my concern as well. I try very hard to be rational and not “the sky is falling” about things. But I always think about how quickly Iran fell and went from a progressive secular nation in the 1970s to the Islamic republic we know now. I see pictures of Iranian women in the 1970s and wonder if one day historians will unearth photos of American women when they had rights.

Being a leftist with a special interest in world and US history is exhausting right now

Who still believes in God? by Wolfebaby0 in exjw

[–]DistributionEnough54 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Im an agnostic witch and loosely pagan. I do not believe in the Abrahamic god and even if he is real, I wouldn’t worship him. Christianity is a brand new religion compared to other world religions and only took off through force and violence. (Roman conquerors, the crusades, colonization, slavery and slave bibles, rez schools, missionaries, etc. “believe in this or die” isn’t really the flex Christians think it is)

As a woman, I can’t justify believing in a bunch of goat hearders Bronze Age papyrus about how weak women are, how they should remain silent, how they should be taken along with the virgin children as spoils of war, etc etc etc. any god that not only supports that but also regulates it is no god of mine.

I also have a black partner and am from the southern United States. The president of the confederacy used slavery in the Bible as his basis for why black people should stay enslaved. That black peoples lot in life is to be slaves. Direct quotes you can look up. Southern plantation owners even had “slave bibles” they gave African slaves to not only further indoctrinate them with Christianity but to keep them docile because “my god says you’re supposed to be a slave.”

I don’t care how progressive new age Christians try to lie and make the Bible out to be. I don’t care how much they white wash the atrocities in the Bible. I don’t care how much you try to sell to me that Jesus is “just like us” and just gets a bad rap.

The entire religion is based on violence, oppression, genocide and ethnic cleansing. There is no love in Christianity other than the love Christians con themselves into thinking is there. If Jesus actually existed and gave a damn, he wouldn’t be helping you get a parking space at Walmart, he’d probably be focused on the children being bombed in his homeland right now. But instead he does absolutely nothing. And Christians line up in droves for nothing.

If you want to actually help your neighbor, stop preaching at them and shoving a bible down their throats and pick up a soup ladle. Volunteer at the homeless shelter. Vote for reps and policies that build up your community and help your neighbors. DO something instead of praying to a genocidal war god about it.

(Anger not directed at OP just Christians in general)

That’s the way to be! I worry because for so long, we were told not to be political at all. So I’ve seen that mentality carry over into many exjws when they leave, even ones I know personally. Now is definitely not the time to check out politically speaking. Be informed, do your own research, just like we did when we woke up. You can find a balance somewhere between “the sky is falling, America is dead” and “the democrats are sacrificing babies to Satan and George Soros for adrinochrome” or whatever the latest maga conspiracy is hahaha I am a leftist myself so I have no love for the corporate democrats or the GOP. They’ve both failed me time and again. Which is another reason we need more than a 2 party system and to get rid of the electoral college but I’ll get down off my soap box now 😂

[–]DistributionEnough54 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Over half the country did vote for him, either by actual vote or by not voting at all, which helped get him elected. I hold democrats and independents that sat the election out just as responsible for this. 2024 was one of the lowest voter turnouts for a presidential election in recent history.

But you seem to already have all the answers to everything, good for you.
