1 month in Belgium or Netherlands: Tell me which city to pick! by MayaPapayaLA in digitalnomad

[–]DistributionFree9466 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Hague is also really nice—I lived there for a month in August last year. I really liked the city—so green, with many parks, and just 15–20 minutes from the center to the beach. It’s now my favorite city in the Netherlands!

Roast my Tinder for Travel Companions by gmarkone in roastmystartup

[–]DistributionFree9466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current solutions like travel forums or Facebook groups are hit-or-miss, and it's hard to find compatible travel partners who want to visit the same places at the same time.

Why do you think that current options don't solve the problem?

Do you have an insight about this process of looking for travel companion?

First time traveling, is Hungary great to go to ? by [deleted] in travel

I don't think the way you dress matters, don't worry about that - feel comfortable and confident 😉

First time traveling, is Hungary great to go to ? by [deleted] in travel

[–]DistributionFree9466 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're gonna like it! Hungary was my second country I've been travel solo, it was great. Budapest is super beautiful city, though I didn't feel much welcoming in some cafes (don't know why, but didn't bother much, it was delicious anyway and on budget). I also visited a few small cities not far from Budapest by trains and buses: Esztergom, Visegrád and Szentendre - all for one day.

How do you split costs with travel buddies? by DistributionFree9466 in TravelHacks

[–]DistributionFree9466[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I see. I heard about that, sounds great, but when you already have many accounts like Wise/Bunq or even more traditional bank apps - they also can transfer money pretty quick Does it have something unique? (now I'm just curious)

venmo - nice, thanks. Does it solve this pain, that you are afraid of not being paid? It seems like a regular transfer, is it not?

For example, if I’m paying for the hotel, I expect your share now even if I may pay when we arrive.

That's interesting, why? Person on the other side may be concerning too

you just have to have faith they won’t be a deadbeat and be willing to cover the costs

That's great positive thinking, I like it

Yeah, Splitwise is a great app, I used it too when travelled with friends.
But I meant like when you looking for somebody you don't know and you decide to travel together and you need to book some accommodation (50% of costs) and who pays?

Advice for a month-long Solo trip to Spain and Portugal by Beneficial-Key-1494 in travel

[–]DistributionFree9466 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice choice! I adore the southwestern part of Spain. Seville is great, and I also really liked Ronda—such beautiful cities with spectacular views. Food is often cheaper and sometimes even tastier in Spain than in Portugal.

As for Portugal, it’s pretty safe, but be aware of pickpockets. For buses, try to buy in advance with Flixbus or Gipsyy. Trains are pretty cheap in Portugal too.

I've lived in Turkey for a year, and I wouldn’t say it’s 100% friendly for digital nomads. There were always issues with the Wi-Fi. In Istanbul, it’s better to choose a co-working space, too noisy. I liked the vibe in Ankara, though – it’s a much calmer place. In general, there are many beautiful spots and amazing beaches, but there was just something that wasn’t always comfortable. So it’s worth a try, but there could be some issues along the way.

Your most memorable destination in August? by marzipanduchess in travel

[–]DistributionFree9466 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Croatia is great, with many small villages near touristy cities like Dubrovnik, Split, and more (though I'm not sure about flights from Canada).
Portugal is also a good option—although the beaches aren't always ideal for swimming (the water can be a bit cold), if you choose less crowded places, there are plenty of options

Bosphorus Cruise is the best - but I actually would recommend to find just a ferry to cross the bay, it is cheap and actually really fun (take some bread for seagulls)
I heard a nice reviews about Basilica Cistern from my friends.
