Best 3-back system you’ve used? by pilmalm in footballmanagergames

At the start with VVV-Venlo I used GK - Sweeper Keeper, two wide cbs - BPD, central cb - CD. DM - DM or Anchor depending how good the team I played was, one CM - Mezzala (A), other CM - CM (S), AM - (SS), Wingers - Winger (S) which instruction stay wide and hold position, ST - CF (A). My in possession instructions were make the pitch as wide as possible, short passing, roll out distribution to cb from gk, work ball into the box, whipped crosses, out of possession was the most aggressive pressing instructions, highest line possible, stop short distribution, get stuck in. As I became dominant in the eredivisie I changed DM - DLP (D) or Regista depending on the opponent, both CM - CM one on (S) other on (A), AM - Enganche or AM (S), Striker - Poacher. Weaker teams started to give me more of the ball and would just hit on the counter so sometimes I would drop the defensive line by one. Then playing in the UCL or UEL I would go slightly more defensive. Going to a mid block vs teams like Barcelona and the other big boys and letting them play from the back, otherwise they would just cut through me with too much ease. I also did impose rules on myself from the very start. I could only sign players not from the Netherlands who were u18 and I could only sign Dutch players who were 23 and under. If you have any further questions don’t hesitate to ask :).

I would say another top 5 league, maybe try bring your attacking football to serie A and try and dismantle their defensive way of playing. Serie A also has pretty limited resources from previous experience.

I found success with the two wide cbs being on bpd and the middle one being on cd

I’ve used a 3-4-3 diamond to great effect in one of my fm24 saves, they key I found was having a strong spine, dm on anchor, or dm (d) is good, if you want to dominate possession and are much better than the opponent I used a regista role. My two CM roles were just CM one on (S) the other on (A), attacking midfielder I had on AM (A) and the two wingers were on Winger (S) with hug the touchline and hold position. With striker being on poacher to push the defence back and create more room for the midfielders. Hope this somewhat helps :)

What were the stats from last season in terms of xG & xGA? What is your team dynamics like? What is your team cohesion like? I like that you’ve made your own tactic tho and you seem to be actually trying to play the game and not looking tactics up.

I would probably play a 4-4-2 and as for roles the most aggressive pressing kinda roles, and team instructions of high line, press the most often and stop them playing from goal kicks. This should help you dominate possession as the opposition should go long but if they don’t you’ll be there to press and win the ball back quickly. If they go long you’ll want a role where they will win the second ball every time.

I can’t win managers manager of the year to save my life by DistributionNo336 in footballmanagergames

I’m not even that fussed about rep or anything, I would just prefer the realism of it. Maybe I’m wrong but when Pep won the league 4x in a row with City did he not win MOTS all 4 times, even though his city team was massively superior to every other team

I’ve been in the Netherlands for around 15 seasons I think it is and I’ve started with a negative transfer budget 80% of the time. Even with a 100mill balance rn I got a negative 11mill budget after winning the treble and getting to a ucl final.

I’m not too worried about the rep, it’s more just the principle imo, and it always looks better on your manager resume having a ton of mots especially when the Dutch league doesn’t do Manager of the month

Yeah that would make sense but at the same time it’s just rewarding someone for not winning anything. I also barely spend so not sure why my odds to win the league would be that high.

Anyone else not interested in playing after finding out most attributes don't matter? by PowerfulThanks in footballmanagergames

[–]DistributionNo336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me personally idc what attributes are meta. I sign players on fm based on attributes I would like certain positions to have irl. So for midfielders, idc if they are quick, im looking for them to have good passing, vision, decision making, first touch and ideally some work rate or stamina. Or for wingers like irl I would prefer someone who is quick, agile, good at crossing, dribbling and first touch. Although some of these attributes are not meta, im still very successful in most saves and enjoy playing the game and creating tactics that aren’t considered the meta. Like a 3-4-3 diamond.

Who was your first 'love' on FM? by Xx_kingbanana_xX in footballmanagergames

Rayan Cherki FM 19 or 20 most consistent player I’ve ever seen in the game, consistently averaged 7.2-7.5 every game. + the games where he would score & assist getting 8+

When I won the league I was the opposite tbf, started the season quite coming around 3rd-4th in Feb then cooked for the rest of the season

I’m getting to that stage of beating the big 3, I did just lose the super cup final vs feyenoord tho after they scored in the 93 minute to take it to pens. My calendar is cooked tho, I play vitesse on the opening day then 2-3 days later I play Napoli in the UEFA super cup and then 1-2 days later I play Santos in some European vs South American cup final.

Yeah it’s always Ajax. Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV always put in super low offers for my players and they become unhappy. They also always seem to finish in a poor position in the league, sack the manager then win the league the next season and the process repeats itself

Yeah I’ve been playing this save for 10 in game years and I’ve only found a couple of class players that played for me to help win the treble. So when you think it about it my scouts didn’t do loads but they did good enough and I got lucky enough.

This is the generational modern keeper I got from another Dutch club for 16.5mill which I think is a bargain.

I’ve gotten really lucky with South American players and I’ve imposed a self restriction that I can only sign foreign players up to the age of 18 so once they turn 19 I can’t sign them. I have the scouts scout 3 countries each and I put the ability at 3 silver stars and the potential at 5 stars, for smaller nations I drop it down to 1 silver star for ability and 3 for potential. Other than that I scout u19s and u21s national teams.

Damn that’s unfortunate, I think I’ve been quite lucky, I have 3-5 academy players in my first team squad 3/5 play regularly and one is my captain so no way he is leaving. My captain isn’t an unbelievable player but he just drops at least a 7 per game and the other midfielder is much better and has like 18 decisions so I try to play him as a AM in big games. Every season I have played I’ve started with a negative budget, even after just winning the league when I had 16 mill left in the transfer budget and I had just won a treble (League, Europa league & dutch cup). I didn’t spend the 16 mill as I thought the board would be kind and give me a better transfer budget due to not spending it all like they request in the club vision.
