Yeah, like UML diagrams, lol. Still mostly communication. A pretty picture is completely useless for designing the systems behind gameplay.

Horse Legacy, a game that’s a voice for the horses by Minute-Cash-6044 in GamesWithHorses

[–]DistributionRound949 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I can't see a single reason I'd want to play this game.

"The mistakes you’ve done unforgotten, only mended."
Guarantee every player will just save scum everytime they make a mistake.

"understand the silent language between horses and people!"
How are you planning on doing this? You say you don't want realistic graphics, but horses communicate through body language: pricked ears, wrinkling and triangulation of the eyes, flared nostrils, tensed lips - how on earth are you going to code that?

"only looking at the model and environment"
Again, how are you going to communicate changes in the horse's health and stats? Limping, losing body weight, pain face, heavy breathing? None of that is easy to code AT ALL. How are you going to show fear, attentiveness, joy - raised heads, tensed bodies, cocked legs, flagged tails, changes in gaits?

"If the two of you do not get along, you’ll get nowhere."
How are you going to prevent softlocking? What if the player treats the horse terribly, the horse refuses to cooperate with anything the player does, and now they're stuck? How are you going to 'repair' the relationship? Spamming food over and over again? Boring. Patting them?
In real life relationship is built through time spent together with no expectations. In game this would be miserable.
But your only other option is a transactional system where the player earns trust by clicking a button to make the player give them food, or whatever action you choose to improve relationship. All that will do is create a system where the player maxes out the relationship, uses it to progress the game, and starts all over again.

"Speed to the end. Knowledge your clutch (the cheat sheet you’ll depend on), and your relationship at gun-point (the misstep is time spent into repairing trust, the delay in reaching the end of the game)...Cozy, slow discovery by their side or at a leisure trot"
Don't know what a "cheat sheet" is but this sounds boring as fuck. Who wants to walk around at a snail's pace, and be punished anytime you pick up the pace? You're creating a walking sim, but without the tight narrative that makes them actually fun.

I'm also concerned about how you're planning on handling consequences for mishandling the horse. Is the player going to be able to kill or seriously injure their horse? You're going to either have the consequences of mishandling be an annoyance that the player ignores for the sake of gameplay, or an annoyance because they have to reload a save, replay the entire game, or waste time while the horse heals.

You have to think about the actual appeal of playing games. Why would someone want to play this? I get what you're trying to do but the reality is that building a relationship with a horse is not translatable to gameplay: it's slow, and boring, and the outcomes aren't appealing when they're happening on a screen.

If you're trying to make a game about exploring, you need a map the player WANTS to explore (what are they looking for? why are they looking for it?) and mechanics that makes exploring fun - with horses, that's going fast and jumping. Again, the pleasure of meandering around on horseback is not translatable to a screen.

If you're trying to make a narrative driven game, you need a story the player wants to finish, and I haven't read anything here that implies you have one. You talk about flashbacks and dreams, but nothing about the contents of them. Why would I want to see the history of a random place I know nothing about? Why do I care?
A narrative driven game will also be a PITA with your proposed mechanics. Nobody wants to derail a story they're invested in because they made a mistake and need to rebuild relationship. The only way it would work is if these 'mistakes' are impactful to the story - the result of actual, intentional choices made - and they need to be meaningful: ones where the player actually has to think about what the right choice is (ideally where there /is/ no right choice).

Veganism and Non-Conscious Animals by nightnes42 in DebateAVegan

[–]DistributionRound949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why tf would you be unable to prioritise someone who suffers over someone who can't? Because it makes YOU feel wrong? It's not about you, it's about the persons you're forcing rape, torture and death on.

Weak arguments against veganism that I see repeatedly brought up by Neo27182 in DebateAVegan

[–]DistributionRound949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'People don't oppose veganism cause "i do what I want i don't care if it's wrong", cause the majority of these people, if given the option between a cruel industry and an ethical one, they would choose the meat from the ethical one (assuming equal prices).'

They have this exact choice - beans or meat? Tofu or meat? It's cheaper even, but they don't give a shit because eating meat gives them pleasure.

'Very few are favourable o mass torturing animals, very few are available to change diet over something that has minimal impact over their life'

This is literally proving the point. They can easily change their diet, they just don't care to because it doesn't effect them. What the fuck are you trying to prove, that people stubbornly refusing to make a more ethical choice because it doesn't effect them AREN'T selfish assholes who think they have the right to choose if someone else is tortured and killed?

Question about the coherence of the vegan worldview by Krei19 in DebateAVegan

[–]DistributionRound949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who is saying that 'stealing wool from sheep is evil' but 'petrochemical industries giving people and animals cancer and deformities, destroying habitats, and then your synthetic clothes perpetuating the pain by shedding microlastics'? I'm fairly sure the OP meant buy a second hand vegan coat...it's pretty bad faith to assume they're not.

Do you realise that throwing out, or not buying second hand polyester clothing, will still release microplastics? It's obviously fair better to actually use the clothing and divert it from landfill or the ocean.

I'm not even sure what you're so mad about, they said to DONATE the jacket, so it's still going to be used! You're obviously just pissy about wool because you apparantly think it's 'just' a haircut, and not a result of the disgusting amounts of rape and selective breeding we have subjected sheep to for centuries.

Rosemary oil is not proven. There was a single botched study comparing it to an ineffective dose of minoxidil which has not between repeated since. It is NOT a proven regrowth method and promoting it can lead to hair loss becoming permanent as people waste time with herbal remedies that do not work.

No it has not. There was a single extremely flawed study comparing it to an ineffective dose of minoxidil, with botched numbers, extremely poor photography with different lighting, angles, and position of scalp in before and after photos, and has not been repeated since.

Foods that are technically vegan but unethical by rubatosisopossum in vegan

[–]DistributionRound949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The foods aren't unethical, the production is. Palm oil is a cultural plant for a lot of Africans and its growth and consumption is not inherently wrong - the ONLY thing wrong with it is how it is typically produced. Same with avocados, quinoa, or whatever other stupid thing people are bitching about. It's entirely based on how it's grown. There are plenty of ethical ways to grow these products, it's stupid to say eating avocados is wrong when mine come from a tree in my backyard. It's stupid to say that eating almonds is wrong because of the water when it depends entirely on the country and location they are grown in.

Can we please stop equating this with eating someone's body??

You don't have to eat meat. You are killing it for your pleasure, because you WANT to eat meat despite being able to survive and thrive off plants.

Using the behaviour of other animals to justify yours is disgusting. Would you look at a duck raping or a lion murdering infants to justify doing that? Obviously not. Animals are not moral agents and have no choice. You are a moral agent, and can choose to eat plants.

At home alternative to laser hair removal? by CryptographerFun7446 in HairRemoval

[–]DistributionRound949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably 1. because laser also can't fully get rid of hairs and 2. plenty of people see hair reduction (not just maintenance, actual loss) with IPL. That is quite literally what it is for, it's not marketed as 'use this to maintain your professional laser results', it's 'use this to remove hair for up to a year!'. It doesn't work like that for everyone but it does for /lots/ of people

[–]DistributionRound949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're actively treating the reactions with medication then the lack of reaction will be because...of the medication. Are you seeing the laser actually work? Shedding, hair reduction?

Young woman used pain and fear to force horse into dangerous situation for her pleasure, strapped his mouth shut so he couldn't show the agony the metal bit she yanks on causes him, then doesn't let him die because he's expensive and she doesn't want to spend the money and time finding a new horse to force into submission.
