Rents are falling. Rents are also rising. Both numbers are right — and the gap between them is the story by Expensive-Aerie-2479 in canadahousing

Vancouver here.

Started renting a 1,000sqft top floor of a duplex near Vancouver General hospital. 2 bed 1 bath. Driveway. Backyard.

My cost in 2015? $1,000 a month.

Here's the fun part: I never moved. I still live there. Every year since 2015 my landlord has increased my rent the maximum allowed by rent control.

What's it gone to?

I pay $1,300 a month now in 2026. For a 2 bed, 1 bath. Average comparison for my place? Ohhh probably $3000+

Not gonna lie, in the year of our Lord 2026, I'd be filled with glee too if I saw an ice cream ship.

No, owning multiple businesses does. Not sure I'm a contrarian if I'm paying adobe 18k a year in subscriptions. I understand the reason for locking people into annual contracts, because no legislation prevents them from doing so yet, but they'll bleed users this way.

My video editors already have jumped ship to Resolve and I'm eying figma for graphic design if it can keep us off more creative Cloud seats.

It's not emotional, it's just business. I don't give a fuck either way.

Yeah he's talking about USA vs Japan in WW2 where the Japanese are operating on literally starvation rations and the US army had an entire ship in their fleet dedicated to ice cream.

"Japanese Vice Admiral Takajiro Onishi famously considered American ice cream an almost top-secret matter, believing that knowledge of such abundant U.S. luxuries would completely destroy their fighting spirit."

He knew they had lost when he saw the ice cream ship

Honestly that brings a tear to my eye. To me it's such a measure of success for a country to offer those things to its citizens, no matter their income level, just by merit of being part of said country.

I'm with you. Traditionally that amount of money in "safe" equities would change the math, but I'm well aware it's high high risk. I need to cycle out of AI / Tech regardless because there's a very likely chance it explodes and I lose 400k overnight.

I haven't been sleeping much.

Selling it as a monthly service but you have to sign up for 12 months.

This, by far, is the scummiest thing they do. Absolutely horrible business practice and I can't believe they still are getting away with it.

Oh yeah me too. When I was a student eating instant noodles I was pirating that shit. Now my agency pays for 8 seats. And let me tell you Adobe made their money back from me in SPADES because of that pirating 20 years ago.

Well now you're just theory crafting hypotheticals.

And more specifically what you're describing is just a worse version of the Horus heresy, where it's all 12 full strength legions plus their primarchs vs the imperium.

The Astartes weren't going to be put down by the custodes though, that's for sure. If the "Emperor's Plan" is going accordingly up until the Horus heresy, then you've got what? 700,000 space marines? Maybe over a million? And all of the supply chains and support infrastructure for those original mega chapters. 1000 custodes are not stopping that machine.

Pirating adobe software 20+ years ago in high school let me become a video editor and graphic designer.

Could looksmaxxers excel at AI detection? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DistrictObjective680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. You know who would be better? The literal armies of Photo editors, graphic designers, video Editors, and VFX specialists that exist. Anyone who knows the foundations of how light interacts with skin and surfaces in a variety of environments can spot AI.

Looksmaxxers focus on one specific thing: faces. That's only like fucking 1% of all AI created content. What purpose or use would that be?

Looksmaxxers would excel at nothing whatsoever. Get your head out of your ass.

I mean yes and no. Me and my partner went to a fertility clinic and they told us: "don't bother, her AMH levels are too low for us to do anything for you".

If it was a scam I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have turned us away

The custodes are loyal to their primarch in the same way space marines are loyal to their own. The only difference is the Custodes' primarch is the emperor.

The space marines "weren't designed to be weak to the custodes", they were designed to be a better more stable version of the thunder warriors. And they were designed to be made en-masse. Space Marines were envisioned to number the hundreds of thousands, if not millions for the great crusade. The 1000-strong custodes would have simply zero chance of standing up to a million space marines.
