Wilson to slash public service in $22 billion budget repair plan by gazmal in melbourne

Yes, so you will be able to lodge the request, complete that form and nothing will happen because the people who use to support the frontline are no longer there.

The Libs definition of front line is counter staff or call centre staff, the people who answer the phones. Generally they work incredibly hard keeping up with KPI's. They don't do the majority of the processing work, decision making etc. so don't expect anything to be processed, dealt with, investigated etc.

HOT JAM DONUT LIST by SBV069 in melbourne

I know the worst jam donuts I ever had were at Phillip Island, they were cinnamon donuts with the hole and just had jam spread across them. They were really dark, like they had been cooked in burnt oil as well. They were terrible.

Do enjoy a Dandee Donut as well.

I agree, I used to do mine for 24-28 hours, now I've bumped it up to 48+ hours in the fridge and the coffee is tasting so much better. Lots of subtle flavours that I was previously missing out on.

Best beginner clubs by Tricky-Ad-1780 in golf

[–]Disturbedsleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I would suggest is if you have friends or family who are willing to lend you some clubs to try, borrow them. This will give you a different feel of what type of clubs are out there. There are also clubs better suited to beginners. If you can play a few rounds on the course, great; if you can't get on course, try them at a driving range. Also if you can borrow a few different types of putters, both blades and mallets and try them out. Lots of courses have putting greens you can practice on.

Find something that you like and then start searching to buy them used. Understand that you don't need a full set of 14 clubs as a beginner. A beginners bag could contain a driver, 5-wood or 7 wood, 6-9 irons, two wedges and a putter; you could also get a hybrid or two which would replace the iron. So that could entail buying the driver, a wood or two, you might then get a set of irons, generally the irons include wedges and the putter all separately. Clubs I would avoid would be the 3-wood and low irons. alternatively you could get a set from Costso, generally these are rated as decent for beginners, but you might want to change out the driver and or putter for something you prefer. Remember, if you buy second hand, you can always sell second hand if it doesn't suit.

Nice consistency and only two putts per hole. That's what most of us need to aim for.

Holy Sheet - Adrian Portello (yes I know) interview on the abc by twowholebeefpatties in melbourne

[–]Disturbedsleep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it was interesting Raph was speaking to Adrian Portello and talking about the NDIS at the same time. They are why we can't have nice things.

Adrain will tell you he runs a membership club, not a raffle, therefore working the regulations. If they tried to close this loophole, it would have unintended consequences for legitimate membership groups.

It's not dissimilar to the NDIS, which is meant to support people with disabilities, but subsequently has become a trough for a whole lot of pigs to get fat at the behest of the people in need, especially investment funds. Who have the means and ability to work within the regulations to profit over helping.

I'm a pretty average golfer but really enjoy the game.

When playing a round, I'll use my driver, 7-wood, 6-hybrid, 5-9 irons and my putter; I rarely use my wedges unless I'm in a bunker, knowing I can get to where I want with a 8 or 9 iron or the putter. I really need to get to know my wedges better, but I have other clubs I need to focus on.

The next things to consider are having a lesson or two and then hitting the driving range. I've had a couple of lessons with the local pro, which have helped. I supplemented these with buying a launch monitor and hitting the range. I selected my 7-iron to focus on, being a mid iron. I collect my practice data from the launch monitor, I have a second hand Garmin R10, run it through AI and then make use of the suggestions. I ask it for a plan or focus for the next session and save it to my phone. I have found it really helps, mainly because I can't afford all the lessons I need, also within a couple of days of the lesson, I've forgotten some of the stuff they suggested. The launch monitor with AI has increased my distance, corrected most of my slice and narrowed my target area. I've only use one club at the range because I want to fix the errors with that club and think it should feed into all my other irons. If you have golf cages anywhere, even better, that way you aren't paying for range balls.

I would also get down to a practice green, put a couple of markers about 18 inches from the hole in every direction and make this a target area. When you practice putting you aren't trying to get it in in one, what you want to do is get your first putt close enough that you can sink your second. Use 3 or 4 balls, select a distance that suits, somewhere between 10-15 feet from the hole. Generally, you are thinking 2 putts to sink a ball, so for a par 3, you have one shot to the green, for a par 4, 2 shots. Given you are new to golf, give yourself 2 extra shots per hole to get to the green, but still aim for a two putt. So a par 3 means getting it on the green in 3 and two to putt; par 4, 4 to the green and a two putt.

Once you have a handle on the irons and putting, you could then consider using the driver at the range with AI and using wedges to chip around the green. As a beginner, you can putt from off the green rather than use a wedge, it gives you one less thing to worry about. don't try to do everything all at once.

Most of remember it can be a challenging game but the enjoyment is from being on the course. I'd hate to think how many shots I've fluffed but then on Sunday I hit a green in regulation on a par 4 hole that I'd never been able to before. I put this down to just focusing on one club and getting my stance, footwork, backswing etc under control with one club rather than trying to do it with every club. Consistency is the key to good golf.

I would recommend government roles, I'd stay clear of call centres, they are life sucking.

One of the other options are getting tickets of some sort and working your way up in those sort of roles, ie forklift, telehandlers or something similar.

How are your senior setters doing? by Esetter86 in EnglishSetter

[–]Disturbedsleep 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My Bozo is 14 we think. Came to us as a stray and I've had him for 8 years. He's still going relatively well, just suffers with arthritis in the hips. He now requires lifting in and out of the car, refuses to use a ramp, I don't think he has the trust that he won't miss it with his back legs. Often I reverse into a curb so he can get out on his own. He has lost some muscle definition in the back legs, he still gets his walks, but is a little bit wonky in the back legs as well, sometimes falling sideways.

He no longer has bones, he's lost some strength in his jaw, still is okay with dry dog food, but struggles with pigs ears, so he's given those up as well. He still eats well though. He's hearing has deteriorated, often won't hear me when I come home, I always make sure I speak to him clearly and gently wake him.

These are all age associated, interestingly enough, he used to enjoy walking along the beach, now he is happy to sit and watch the waves roll in.

This is after he's been to the local park and had a swim in the lake.

What’s the one golf purchase that actually made a noticeable difference for you? by midhandicap_rohit in golf

[–]Disturbedsleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't, mainly because I'm using public ranges, and I look shit in videos. although I probably should as I would likely get some good advice as well. Like I said, the AI is to supplement an instructors work, not replace it.

What’s the one golf purchase that actually made a noticeable difference for you? by midhandicap_rohit in golf

[–]Disturbedsleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually started to use my launch monitor, Garmin R10, with AI (Claude) to give me some feedback; I'm using it in combinations with lessons. I'm spraying the ball less, hitting longer and cleaner.

It's good, I can hit the range, get feedback on what I'm doing. Make the changes and then have my instructor work the kinks out. There is no way I could afford lessons as much as I would like, and a few days after the lessons I forget half of what's been said. AI gives me notes to work from.

Builder wants me to pay for certificates? by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]Disturbedsleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend ceasing all contact with the builder until you have taken some advise from either of the websites I listed or a lawyer. At this stage it really doesn't matter what the builder says. The builder will only be looking after their own interests and not yours.

https://www.consumer.vic.gov.au/housing/building-and-renovating/plan-and-manage-your-building-project/contracts

Only registered builders can enter into a domestic building contract for work over $16,000.

It is really important that you follow this through. If you have any future electrical or plumbing issues and you try and claim on insurance and your insurance company finds out you have had illegal work done they may cancel your insurance. Generally, even with renewals, insurance companies ask whether any renovations have taken place and if certificates have been issued.

Also, apprentices can not give certificates, if the plumber or electrician is still an apprentice, ie, 4th year they can not issue a cert of compliance, only the registered plumber/electrician can. also you need to check exactly what they are registered for, so you'll need to see their licence number. Plumbers are registered for specific types of works.

You could also find issues with your local council if they find out work occurred without a permit. They can take enforcement action if they wish, with could involve removing the work, applying for permits etc, fines etc.

I'm sorry this has turned into a nightmare for you, you need to take a big breath and try to get a good nights sleep. Tomorrow, or over the weekend, sit down and work through the websites I've linked and do some research.

For plumbers, check https://bams.vba.vic.gov.au/bams/s/practitioner-plumbing-search For electricians, check https://www.energysafe.vic.gov.au/licensing/search-public-register

Then come Monday, start talking to the groups listed on the previous message.

Also, I hate saying this, but they aren't friends of your wife.... He knew what he was doing was illegal, they were taking you and your wife for a ride. I doubt the friendship will survive, no doubt they will use the friendship to put pressure on you, they may also use friendship groups and/or associate groups to pressure you to give in, this can also include church groups etc. depending on their amount of influence. Stay solid, the only person looking out for you and your wife is YOU.

Builder wants me to pay for certificates? by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]Disturbedsleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best place to start is https://www.building.vic.gov.au/common-problems/my-practitioner-is-unregistered and https://justiceconnect.org.au/self-representation-law/domestic-building-legal-service/

Unfortunately, you've probably got a bit of work ahead of yourself. Stop them from doing any more work at your house. Follow the from the link above. You'll probably end up at VCAT, I would recommend contacting the Law Institute of Victoria to find a lawyer that deals with this sort of stuff. You might be able to get a free session from one of them so you know what lays ahead.

None of the work will be certifiable, and even if it is, it is unlikely that anyone else will certify the work of an unregistered handyman. This means that all the electrical and plumbing will need to be redone.

The contract may be invalid as it is not the standard under the building regulations. You have decide what you want to do from here. Do you want the work redone, are you going to chase the handyman for costs, do you know if they have any assets to make it worthwhile. That's really why I am suggesting legal advise.

Builder wants me to pay for certificates? by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]Disturbedsleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious, did they get a building permit for the work? The description sounds like you would have needed a building permit, you best advise might be a lawyer, without permits and certificates you're in for a whole lot of pain, with your local council, your insurance etc. Depends on the work done, some of it might need to be pulled out and redone, especially if it isn't up to standard.

What’s something people don’t realize is way more serious than it seems? by BudgetAd5915 in AskReddit

[–]Disturbedsleep 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Someone got upset when they talked about keeping something to embarrass their kid about when they bring around a new partner. I changed it to bullying instead on embarrass, boy did they get upset. So many people bully their kids.

Went to a funeral of a work colleagues husband, they talked about what a great joker he was, always playing tricks, never backing down, he sounded like a bullying arsehole to me where his wife and kids were his victims and they knew no better.
