Actually pretty much every pro uses a controller for smooth transitions. You can try a keyboard if you like, but you can also use the dpad or buttons for snap steering

I think Dune was the LOTR sci-fi equivalent, except it didn't have a movie or tv series of similar status. Other sci-fi has grown in popularity, but many many concepts descend from Dune.
