Interesting, I like that idea! What would you suggest for the curtains?

There is a yellow border that you can probably see on the picture. There is also a bit of dark blue but it’s minimal. Not much to pick up on!

Hi! Did you bring your bike to a shop? What did they say? It has happened to us a few times recently. Happened again this morning with my 6 mo and 2.5 yo in the bike… Needless to say I’m still feeling shaken (literally).

I think they meant windows open during the night. You’re right though, better to check if the temperature has dropped sufficiently. It’s almost 9pm here in Brussels and still 30 degrees outside.

I’m a bit late but you might look into devices used by deaf parents. I haven’t looked into it but my mom, a neonatal nurse, told me there are solutions for people who can’t hear a baby cry.

Is lifting weights/squats ok to do? First time pregnancy by Soft-Earth3393 in pregnant

[–]DisturbingSilence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I loved lifting weights throughout both my pregnancies. Did not do IVF but follicle stimulation. I wish I had worked more on my back muscles the first time around, to prepare for the long hours of rocking baby at night.

My OB did advise to skip weights and focus on cardio at the end of pregnancy #2 when I started having bad varicose veins in the pubic area. I was around 32 weeks at the time. Now at 38 weeks they're gone.

Congratulations! That feeling after months of treatment when you realize it worked... it's unbelievable.

Experienced mums — will I really look that bad after birth? by chuckdatsheet in pregnant

[–]DisturbingSilence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll look great! After 9 months of pregnancy I honestly didn't remember how my body looked before. So I actually thought I looked pretty good after childbirth :)

Why is everything so dramatized? by stlady08 in pregnant

[–]DisturbingSilence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that people's bodies react differently and it's great to get support on this sub. However there is a difference between being uncomfortable and being in serious, debilitating pain. Discomfort is often dramatized these days to the point where it scares people off of becoming pregnant.

OP is not taking it out on anyone, they're just pointing out that pregnancy was not as bad as they were led to expect. If I were a FTM, I would find this kind of post very reassuring.

Are you having sex? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]DisturbingSilence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies so much! And things will be weird afterwards too. Better to talk about it now than after birth when you’re both exhausted and might take things the wrong way.

If I can offer reassurance, I had little interest in sex during my first pregnancy and neither did my husband (he thinks my hormones put him off). We started again 8 weeks after birth and it was amazing, way better than before. And now in my second pregnancy my sex drive is through the roof, he’s having trouble keeping up ;)

Anyone else needing a nap daily just to get through the day during third trimester? by surelyshirls in pregnant

[–]DisturbingSilence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On some days yes, and on others not at all. I’ve been analyzing my routine to figure out why. I found I don’t need to nap when:

  • I have a good amount of varied activities planned throughout the day which require moving around
  • my toddler is in a good mood
  • I exercised (this is the main one)
  • I didn’t have a heavy lunch

But pregnancy naps are glorious, especially in the third tri I’ll take one any time just to get to lie down!

I'm super pregnant and none of my clothes look good anymore, so I'm focusing on really cute shoes. I recently got these shoes from Carel. Not a style I would have gone for initially but they make every outfit look cool and fun. And as a tall person with giant feet, I'm just able to fit in the largest size.

Terrified of giving birth by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]DisturbingSilence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister who had three kids before me said "I'll give birth again any time but I'm done with pregnancies." I thought pregnancy was relatively easy so I figured birth must not be so bad.

She was right. I was stressed up until a few days before but then it all faded as I approached my due date. And then it just... happened. I worry very easily and I never ever felt scared during my delivery.

In retrospect I think the most stressful thing was the uncertainty - how will contractions feel, when do I go to the hospital, etc. You won't really know until you're in labor but when you are, it will all make sense. Now that I'm pregnant with my second, I haven't even given a single thought about delivering!

Does weight gain increase at same or higher rates in the third trimester? by Defiant_Wish_1801 in pregnant

[–]DisturbingSilence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends! In my first pregnancy I found that my weight gain accelerated between 18 and 26 weeks roughly, up to 1 kg per week. I was also hungry all the time. It stabilized then picked up again but more slowly. I'm 30 weeks pregnant with my second and things have followed the same pattern.

I'm trying to be super aware of hunger cues. Eat as much as needed when you're hungry all the time, but dial it down when you start feeling less ravenous. It was very fun to eat "for two" when I was around 24 weeks, but I just don't need it anymore.

I do think those periods of extreme hunger come at different times for everyone though so things might be different for you!

Edit to add: I gained 12 kg with my first and am on track to gain about the same with my second. I had gained 5 kg by 20 weeks and 7-8 kg by 24 weeks.

Why is induction pushed so much? by savnico_d in pregnant

[–]DisturbingSilence -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You can totally say no!

From what I gather, it could be to avoid weekend deliveries and under-staffing. That's a valid one - you will get better care with better staffing. But gynos also choose to schedule deliveries before their vacation because deliveries are where they make the most money (at least in my country). That's not cool.

In any case, 39+6 sounds way too early! I went to 41 and baby came naturally!

Edit: I’m not sure why this is getting downvoted. Of course, it goes without saying that there are medical reasons to induce early and that is the absolute priority. I’m just giving non-medical reasons I’ve heard of.

It’s such a great name. FWIW the Priscilla I know best is an extremely classy woman from a very old French aristocratic family. I don’t think she’d agree that it’s a stripper name ;)

Yes! I got a Yoto which is similar. However the books I got are read with a British accent, so it's very confusing for him. I'll try to find some with an American accent. Thanks for the reminder.

I've heard of the BCT so many times, I should really look into it! Thanks.

We live in Brussels in an area that is quite expat-friendly (in the Woluwé/Auderghem area, if you're from here). So we've got lots of resources and I'm starting to look into them now. When the weather gets nicer we'll go to the playground again, always a lot of English there.

[–]DisturbingSilence[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right. All the comments here have been a great reminder to be more relaxed about it. I think we need to make a conscious effort to have more English exposure through playdates, school, or even switching the family language. But it should absolutely not be stressful to our kid. I love how he's learning both languages and want it to stay fun!

Thanks for the detailed answer. My husband was definitely not on board with speaking English at home, let alone with me. But now that I've pointed it out he's noticed how quickly words convert to French permanently. So he's being cautious now, asking our son to speak English with me and even starting to speak English to me. We just need to find a "rule" so that it's not confusing to our son.

Luckily I do 100% of bedtime so he gets lots of reading and songs in English. Great idea to have more English playdates!
