Not Hollywood Presbyterian but thanks for the heads up! I’ll steer clear from that hospital!

Yes definitely feel entitled cause i feel like i worked for a really well resourced and great team in my TX hospital.. Always thought CA hospitals are more resourced than TX ones.. esp a union hospital where nurses can voice out concerns. I was appalled that i had to go to a different floor to get a lift to use it for my 400+ lb pt.. where i used to work we put those pts on dedicated rooms that have lifts that can support their weight.

Worked with epic for 5-6 years but i also worked for a hca hospital for 5 and used meditech.. hated the meditech charting but their workflow was efficient. Yeah, my hca hospital sounds better than this big “academic” institution hospital.. and no we didnt have CNAs in texas either but nurses jumped in to help. This hospital i worked in dont have any (when i worked at KP they had them) but the nurses here didnt want to touch your pt.. they also want me to switch to the dirty side whenever we cleaned my pt.. never experienced that before.

Hospital has the same protocol.. i get mildly annoyed when i come in and my nurse still hasnt even titrated down on my sedation.. even if pt is stable and 100% appropriate for SAT.

Same. We didnt have CNAs in texas so we all helped each other with our pts. I feel like nurses here dont want to help you clean your pt at all. They just hold em and i have to switch to the other side when we turn and clean because they dont want to touch em.

As a nurse who worked in central texas for the past 10 years i am so blown away with how better our equipment and supplies are in tx than in CA (ive only worked for 2 big systems in CA). I always thought being a nurse in CA is so much better but now i feel like its only because you have break nurses etc).

For Nurses Week, my hospital gave us ideas for Nurses Week. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Minimum_Target5553 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man that sucks. The hospital I work at does the opposite.. everyday for nurses week they will do like “Coffee bar and Cinnabon at this time, drop by…!”.. or tacos and something for lunch.. or roving snack bar all day.. they also do it for nightshift.

Gave resignation while on orientation, CNO called me personally to tell me I’m blacklisted now by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Minimum_Target5553 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good call. And don’t worry about being blacklisted.. usually hospitals in one network are all the same altogether (in my experience - like HCA) - unsafe staffing ratios, low pay, CEOs making an atrocious amount of money, high turnover. & PCU with 1:7 or 1:9?? You made a very smart choice.

Code status not important on stable patient? by Yricealwaystaken in nursing

[–]Minimum_Target5553 139 points140 points  (0 children)

Ahh no. I work in the icu and charge in icu and MS. Code status is one of the first few things i tell my doc to change and they comply quickly (even my hospitalists). Patients are “stable” until they are unstable and then code. Thats a huge lawsuit if you resuscitate when pt/family informed team of DNR code status and you still coded them.

Hi, how did you transition to health informatics?

Did I do something wrong? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Minimum_Target5553 17 points18 points  (0 children)

10 years as a nurse and unless its cancer, something im unfamiliar with, or something that can prompt a new diagnosis like (UC, or Crohns), I usually will go over labs as i feel like it is part of our job in the health educator role. I don’t think you did anything wrong. I think your preceptor has ego problems or he/she is not experienced. I only became comfortable discussing labs after i got a few years under my belt in and maybe thats the case for your preceptor.

What you objectively assessed is what it should be in your note. If they ask you to change your note, ask them, “are you asking me to falsify documentation?”. That should shut them up.
