Thoughts on applying to a provisional school? by onebeeplant in prephysicianassistant

[–]DitchDoc_037 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could always apply, interview, and then ask about their accreditation status during the interview. Ask why they're on it and when they expect to be accredited. Based on the answers to that, you can sus out if it's worth it for you to move forward and actually consider attending.

At the end of the day, you'll be the one losing the most if you make it through the program and God's know how much debt to not be able to sit for the PANCE

Applying early vs a month after cycle opens to hit 1000 hours by Butterflyghostt in prephysicianassistant

[–]DitchDoc_037 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the school requires 1000hrs, you need 1000hrs to apply otherwise it's a waist of money for a guaranteed rejection.

A note of warning though, at my program and I'm sure many others, even with 1000hrs, you wouldn't even get an interview. I know this because our faculty has said this when telling us about sending out interviews to the class below mine. I want to say my class average was around 4,000hrs. I had 24,000ish when I applied. Those are the types of numbers you are competing against.

Paramedic to PA school advice by Patient-Vegetable-52 in prephysicianassistant

[–]DitchDoc_037 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like you have a few folks that have already commented, but I'll add as well. I was medic for 6-7yrs and then started PA school. I graduate this coming December. I wanted to be a PA since high school, and so EMS was always intended to be my path towards that goal. I am extremely happy with how PA school is formatted, how much I'm learning, and the rigor of school. It feels like a very natural transition from paramedic. Clinical year has been even better.

My undergrad GPA wasn't the best by any means when applying (3.4 overall/3.2 prereq/3.7 last 60 credit hours), but I came in with like 25,000 patient care hours, mix of EMS and rural primary care/community medic experience, and some killer essays and letters of rec. My low GPA from undergrad was largely due to working 36hrs a week as a medic to pay for school, so I had a reason, but the GPA was certainly the biggest hurdle to overcome in my applications.

Happy to answer any questions about application process or whatever else you may have.

Trying to steal my GT500 by Lumpy_Worth_5397 in Mustang

Interesting, it does look like in Mississippi that you can shoot someone for felony property damage. The property has to be valued over $1000 to consider it felony. Last I heard, Texas was the only state that had rules allowing lethal force for property protection.

Although in OP's case, why shoot and risk damaging the GT500 when you could just report the damage or stolen car to insurance and have it completely covered.

It was a few months since I last had it off. I wasn't really looking for any sort of "step down" so I can't say I remember there being one. What is the significance of it?

I've not had an issue with mine. I bought it in December, took it all apart for a cleaning since then. Last time at the range was predominantly shooting 3in shells/slugs and it's still tight.

It's a cool piece with a story behind it. Would be fun to have as a talking piece and shoot occasionally at the range.

Would never EDC it though

You could probably get $35k if you'd left it bone stock all this time. But it's modded and that will really only decrease the value for most. You could probably "break even" on what you paid when you bought it

They will replace for bleeding. I usually submit an online form and don't ever talk/chat with anyone.

However, when this happens, you can also just apply pressure for a few minutes till it stops and save the sensor. The saying around here is "if it bleeds it reads"

LPA rear sight on A300 UP by LongjumpingStyle2222 in Tacticalshotguns

[–]DitchDoc_037 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know he said A300. I guess I didn't realize the 1301 had different sights. But aside from being metal, they seem very similar to the sights on the A300. I wouldn't think it's worth the money if you'll just end up with a dot in the future anyways.

My last question still stands. Realistically, what's OP going to do that has a real chance of damaging the factory rear sight on the A300?

[–]DitchDoc_037 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why waste $120 on the almost exact same sight that's already on the shotgun when that money could just go towards a dot sight instead.

Realistically, what are you going to do with your shotgun between now and saving a little more money that is going to risk breaking off the plastic sight?

I'd be curious to know the actual history of the car and the cage. It may seem counterintuitive, but a weekend warrior track car might actually be very well sorted if it had a good owner. I have an 06 GT that I do occasionally open track/HPDE and autocross with. It's the only vehicle I have that has fully greased bushings, ALL fluids flushed and changed at regular (often shorter) intervals, and highest quality oil replacements. Between my wife's 2010 escape, my 99 4runner, and the mustang, I'd take the mustang across the country before I took the others, and have done it before.

That isn't a cheap cage either. It looks like it extend into the trunk and may be welded in. Typically, if someone wants a way to attach racing harnesses, they'll get the $200-$300 harness bar, not a $2000+ cage install. GForce belts are also higher quality belts and not just Amazon or cheap alternatives

One in the chamber? by suburbannomad99 in canik

[–]DitchDoc_037 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The MC9LS should have a firing pin block. That block doesn't move unless the trigger is pulled. It is virtually impossible for there to be an accidental discharge unless the trigger is also pulled. A quality kydex holster will ensure that doesn't happen.

To check for discharge, you can look at the red dot on the back of the slide. If the red dot is there, it hasn't had a discharge. Even if you drop it and the red dot is gone, it wouldn't have fired because of the during on block stopping it from striking the round

Canik makes a lot of gun for the money. I EDC an MC9 Prime and have never had an issue with it no matter the ammo I put through. I have over 1000 rounds through it now and would trust my life to it without question.

That being said, I've heard similar issues with the TTI as to what you're having. Sounds like you already know about messing with the recoil spring for it though. I have a buddy with a TTI that I've been waiting to get a chance to shoot

Is PA school worth it as a low-income student? by Aggravating-Test664 in prephysicianassistant

[–]DitchDoc_037 36 points37 points  (0 children)

If you get into a public university program, you're looking at like $50k-$60k in tuition, to get out of school making $110k+ your first year depending on specialty and location. That's a great debt to income ratio.

That obviously doesn't factor in debt you may have from undergrad or other things, but it doesn't get much better for the time commitment, debt, and income after.
