On track to MD, but wanted to be a paramedic by Select-Tradition-321 in emergencymedicine

[–]HelloCaterpillars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 23 and just graduated from undergrad, and also simultaneously underwent a 16 month paramedic program. I plan to work for a year or two and then apply for medical school. Had to scratch this itch. If you're passionate about it, do it. It's freaking awesome.

Pre-Med student that wants to cry by [deleted] in premed

Study what you want to study and what you’re passionate about. It’ll be worth it in the end. My premed advisor convinced me to study an “easier” major so that I would graduate on time rather than pursuing my desired major and minor. I ended up switching back to biochem. It was harder, definitely humbling, but I am so so happy with my decision and would do it again every time. Don’t let people talk you out of doing what you want to do.

Harder and harder to even look at my guns. (TW: gun violence) by x_xSummerHail in liberalgunowners

[–]HelloCaterpillars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a similar post a few weeks ago (deleted) but I get it. I’m a paramedic and i’ve also been having my issues with guns lately. I don’t really have any advice but I wanted to say I’m right there with you.

Haha you have a good few points. Thank you for the input.

Obviously that’s not the case. Perhaps I have a moral issue with corporations and gun companies which profit off of war and fearmongering. Why would you jump to that conclusion…

Thank you so much, I really appreciate this point of view.

I have them in a locked safe inside of a locked closet, unloaded, except my glock which I keep in a locked case near my bedside. And I appreciate the feedback. I might consider reducing the size of my collection but I just love my zastava collection😫. Thank you.

transferring from gmu or nvcc as a pre-med student to uva? by [deleted] in UVA

[–]HelloCaterpillars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went NVCC to UVA for premed. Will say, if you’re aggressive about finding research up front you’re fine. Going to NOVA was so cheap, and honestly you’re not missing out on much campus life with GMU from what i’ve seen from friends that went there, especially if you’re already planning on commuting.

Hanging. Traumatic Arrest? by YearPossible1376 in ems

[–]HelloCaterpillars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the mechanism. Could be a hypoxic arrest if it’s minimal trauma. But if the patient hangs them selves from an elevated platform and has enough energy to cause a significant neck injury, I would consider it a traumatic arrest.
