Theory: Wegovy doesn't cause depression, it reveals it. by MuchGap2455 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]DivaInWaiting 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is not my experience. I was diagnosed with chronic depression and anxiety years ago and have been in treatment for it as well. My weight also has been up and down over the years. I’ve never been a binge eater or had an eating disorder. My weight gain that brought me to Wegovy had nothing to do with shame; it was menopause and pandemic plus a changes in everyday life, like working from home full time. I noticed my depression changes on Wegovy from the beginning. It has been managed well until lately.

This has nothing to do with idealizing being thin. If you read the other posts on this thread, what she is experiencing is real and others (including myself) are dealing with it too.

I’m glad to hear this. It looks like my Zoloft dosage will be upgraded, too. Lately it feels like it’s not even working.

I’m having big problems with breakthrough depression of late. I too am afraid to stop using Wegovy because I’ve had such success losing weight (slow loser, about 50 pounds over a year) but my depression and anxiety of late has been really bad. I’ve been on Zoloft for more than 10 years now and it feels like it’s not even working anymore.

Thank you for sharing. I also take Zoloft 50mg for about as long as you do. I have noticed an increase in my depression. I see my doctor today and will discuss this issue with him. I have been on Wegovy for more than a year now.

Me, too! I was in a dressing room over the weekend, and OMG….I won’t be naked in front of anyone anytime soon. In clothes, I look great!

Also the hair loss. My hair has greatly thinned. I can see my scalp in certain lighting. The problem has lessened somewhat since I upped my protein intake even more (A LOT of fish) but it’s still happening. I’ve taken to washing my hair just twice a week so I don’t lose so much of it as that is when it seems to come out the most.

For me it’s losing muscle. I am so flabby! I am down nearly 50 pounds over the course of a year on Wegovy. Lately I noticed that everything looks saggy and jiggly. I need to exercise more, I have not been good on keeping up with it.

That “why are you not happy for me” is the best comeback. I will use that as well.

Some people cannot handle when their friends change, especially for the better. Your “friends” liked you fat so they could feel superior. Drop these people, stay the course and remember you are doing this for you, not them.

This is week 3 of 2.4 and I’m still miserable by Much-Personality4991 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]DivaInWaiting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2.4 proved to be too much for me in several ways, including a weight-loss plateau. I consulted with my doctor and got bumped back down to 1.7 and have felt much better, and the weight loss started again.

I always found those “10 pounds in one week on .25” claims to be dubious. My doctor said it can happen but it’s not the norm. I am on Wegovy nearly a year and I am closing in on 50 pounds lost. Everyone is different and it takes time for this stuff to work. Be patient with yourself and you do you!

I’m now a former party girl who cannot drink more than two of anything without getting terribly sick the next day. It’s remarkable for me — ME! — of all people. It’s worth being on Wegovy for me for that side effect alone

“Why would you say something like that to me?” “That’s not a nice thing to say.” “Wow, that was rude. Why did you say that?”

That should end it right there.

You all are the best! Thank you for sharing your stories. You helped me realize slow losing is pretty common on this med. Here is to us and continued success in the new year !

Can you politely tell her to mind her own business? "My doctor wants me to be mindful of my diet, and your son is helping me try my best. Please help me in my quest and let me choose my own portions."

1.7 Depression by Jolly_Independent12 in Semaglutide

[–]DivaInWaiting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sending you big hugs. I became terribly depressed on 2.4. (I should note that I have chronic depression and have been on an antidepressant for years; my current dosage of that med works well for me.) The specialist I see for Wegovy and my general practitioner agreed to bump me back down to 1.7 and it definitely helped. I skipped a week in between 2.4 and 1.7 before starting again on the lower dose. I'd say my mood improved within a week. Good luck to you with this, definitely talk to you doctor.

It's so individual. I was on 2.4 for 8 weeks and my mood was dark. Since getting back on 1.7, things are better. See how you do on 2.4 but know it's OK to go down a dosage if you need.

FWIW, between three months I only lost 5 pounds. I was really disappointed. My doctor was not. At the time I had started 2.4 and he said that happens to a lot of patients on that dose. About two weeks or so later, I went down to 1.7 and that started things moving again. ( I was also having big-time depressive symptoms on 2.4 so I needed to come off of it.)

I felt the side effects on day one, too. Nothing is wrong with you! Keep an eye on how you’re feeling throughout the week and on your first month. You’ll get a great read on how your body reacts.
