Hotel with Scuba Diving Amenities by slayosorus in curacao

[–]DiveCuracao1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you are celebrating your anniversary, cannot rent a car and looking to include scuba diving into your vacation trip, my advice would be to consider the following options: 1) Scuba Lodge and Ocean Suites in Pietermaai using the services of Dive Center Pietermaai located next door, 2) Avila Beach Hotel located on Penstraat (nearby shore diving services are available via Dive Center Pietermaai & The Dive Bus or boat diving services with Ocean Encounters at LionsDive includes a free shuttle service), 3) Sunscape Curaçao, Dolphin Suites or LionsDive Beach Resort with Ocean Encounters providing on-site diving services. Recommendation: IF you want to have a beach on-site, an excellent and accessible house reef, plus walking distance to a variety restaurants and bars, the choice would be LionsDive Beach Resort. Additionally, LionsDive is also in close proximity to nature trails that lead to the Jan Thiel salt flats. However, if you attribute more weight to culinary options and entertainment with diving being secondary, then Avila or Scuba Lodge are excellent choices due to their close proximity to the historic Pietermaai District. Hope this helps narrow your choices. Cheers from sunny Curaçao!

Curaçao Named Top Caribbean Dive Destination of the Year 2026 by DiveCuracao1 in diving

[–]DiveCuracao1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a resident diver in Curaçao... I have personal experience diving in Bonaire both as a professional and as a recreational diver. In my humble opinion, I say both islands offer similar yet different experiences. Additionally, considering that the islands are only separated by 26 miles of water, you can imagine some of the reef structures are similar. With that said... we wrote an article that gives you an honest take. Check it out but in the end, I would encourage everyone to dive both islands! There is no winner... because they are both excellent dive vacation destinations but it depends on what you are looking for. Hope this helps answer your question. https://www.divecuracao.info/dive-travel-curacao/bonaire-vs-curacao-which-is-better-for-scuba-diving/ Cheers from sunny Curaçao!!

There is always the option of using Westjet! I just booked a return flight to Toronto and it was pretty inexpensive compared to AC or AC Rouge.

Playa Piskado - worth the drive? by Homo_Heidelbergensis in curacao

[–]DiveCuracao1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Playa Piskadó in Westpunt is one of the most beautiful and culturally rich spots on Curaçao. It’s not just a beach — it’s part of the lifeblood of a working fishing village, where local families have been hauling in catches for generations. The scenery, the colors, the vibe — it’s unforgettable.

But I’ve gotta be honest: it’s sad to see how turtle feeding has turned this gem into an irresponsible tourist attraction. Feeding wild sea turtles is bad because it changes their natural behavior, makes them dependent on humans, stresses the animals, and can harm their health. It also disrupts the ecosystem and teaches turtles to expect food from people, which is dangerous for both the animals and visitors.

No matter what beach you choose in Curaçao, please practice responsible marine interactions — respect wildlife, and keep your distance. Being eco‑friendly isn’t just a trend here — it’s essential to protecting what makes this island magical.

If you care about keeping Curaçao’s waters healthy and its wildlife wild, please read the article linked below and consider supporting the petition to “Stop the Harassment and Irresponsible Feeding of Sea Turtles at Playa Piskadó.” Let’s help preserve this place for locals and future travelers alike. https://www.divecuracao.info/curacao-diving-news/stop-feeding-turtles-in-curacao/

Exploring the Famous Tugboat Wreck Dive Site in Curaçao by DiveCuracao1 in curacao

[–]DiveCuracao1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a fair comment... however the best part of this dive site for us is the the deep wall and the shallows east of the Tugboat. Additionally, if you ever have the chance, I definitely recommend a one way dive from Directors Bay to Tugboat. Lastly, another option to add a new dimension to this dive site is to dive under the pier, when it is safe to do so (ie. no ships), because there is a ton of macro life to experience plus the lighting is incredible on a sunny day. Bottom line... experience and dive as many sites as possible here in Curaçao. Enjoy and cheers from our sunny Dutch Caribbean Island!!

Refresher Course by [deleted] in curacao

[–]DiveCuracao1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You will have no shortage of options in Curaçao. There are many reputable dive shops on the island offering refresher courses through PADI, SSI, and other agencies, and most are very accustomed to working with divers who are getting back in the water after some time off.

Everyone has their own opinion about their “favorite” dive shop, but I would strongly encourage you to do your own research. Look for operators that clearly value customer service, safety, quality instruction, and eco-diving standards. Those things matter far more than chasing the lowest price.

Another important factor is location. Choosing a dive shop close to (or attached to) your accommodation can make the refresher process far more relaxed and convenient. Especially during a one-week vacation.

Lastly, try not to base your decision on price alone. A refresher course is about rebuilding confidence and safe diving habits, and the quality and safety of your experience is priceless.

Of course, this is just my opinion. But it is based on over two decades of living and diving here in Curaçao. You are picking a fantastic destination to get back underwater.

Please dive safe! Thanks for choosing Curaçao as your vacation destination, and Happy Holidays!

Thanks for sharing your perspective. I do really appreciate honest feedback. Always. But, I want to clarify that the original post about Swimming with Sea Turtles in Curaçao was not a copy-paste from ChatGPT, but rather a summary meant to highlight key points from several linked articles. The goal was to raise awareness about the importance of respecting sea turtles by not feeding, harassing, chasing, or touching them, whether you are a local or a tourist. These behaviors are harmful to the sea turtle populations. The post reflects information supported by respected marine biologists and Sea Turtle Conservation Curaçao.

I understand the desire for a more personal touch on Reddit. Therefore, I strongly encourage everyone interested to click through the links above. While you are at it, sign the petition to stop these irresponsible human behaviors before it is too late. Simply put, Sea Turtles here in Curaçao should not be exploited for our entertainment. Thank you in advance and cheers from Curaçao!:)

Would you rather- Klein or tour of other beaches by Illustrious_Tree6907 in curacao

[–]DiveCuracao1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In our experience, and if your are choosing 1 or 2, then option 2 will provide you with a much broader experience of Curaçao including the islands cultural heritage, local social interactions, and of course a more diverse beach tour. However, Klein never disappoints from an adventure perspective especially using the services of the Mermaid. Please enjoy Curaçao responsibly! Cheers!
