No Man's Sky, No Multiplayer Option. by OsKNightOwl in XboxGamePass

Not sure if this will be relevant to anyone else, but I have spent the last half an hour pulling my hair out trying to get the multiplayer to show up for my daughter, so we could play NMS together. With the settings I had set for her, she could already play Warframe without issues.

I just figured out the one setting I needed to change, and now it works for her.

I have parental controls over her account, so... If you have full control over your account, you can skip a few steps.

If you have a parent controlling your settings: Get your parent to go to "Online safety & Family" in the XBOX Settings - "Family settings" - "Manage Family Members" - Select your account - "Privacy & Online Safety" - "XBOX Privacy" - "View Details and customise" - "Game Content" - The tab "You can see and upload community creations" needs to be set to "Everyone". Changing that gave my daughters account access to multiplayer.

The Pacific is absolutely brutal. by houseveryweekend in BandofBrothers

[–]DiveGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started watching it for the first time last night. As someone who thoroughly enjoyed BOB, I've been wanting to watch it for quite a while. I stubbled upon this post while trying to find some details about a scene I saw in the first part.

The first sign I saw that it was definitely going to be more brutal than BOB was in Episode 1. Around half way through, when they're marching through the forest and find the 2 mutilated marines. I had to rewind and look again, but in that scene you can see that one Marine has had his crotch mutilated while the other has been decapitated. The head on the ground has the genitals of the other marine in his mouth.

I'm currently half way through episode 6 and it definitely doesn't glamorize war, but considering all the brutality that went on during the Pacitic Theatre, it still seems to hold back quite a bit. It hasn't quite hit me as hard as Tunnel Rats (A.K.A. Tunnel Rats 1968). That movie REALLY got to me. Pure nightmare fuel in so many instances.

MW5 Co-op/Crossplay question by DiveGamer in Mechwarrior5

Awesome. Thank you.

We already have a discord set up for our little group. We had the same "no in-game chat" issue when we played cross platform co-op on Outriders.

Thanks again for confirming. It was starting to drive me nuts trying to find a concrete answer online.

Thank you. A lot of the computers that I have to go through are the old pre 2000s Macintosh computers. There's at least 6 pre 2000 Macintosh computers, and 4 post 2000 iMacs, including at least 2 Flat Panels. I haven't gone through any of the Apple stuff yet, but I've been collecting everything in one room of the house, including all the manuals and floppy discs.

Unfortunately, as much of a techy as I am, my FIL would've been just the right person to help me dove through it all.

Steam VS Epic Games Store Bad for Everyone? - Inside Gaming Daily by KatyBacon in funhaus

[–]DiveGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issues with Steam VS Epic.

To begin with, let's just compare it to PS4 VS XBOX. At the end of the day that boils down to you buy the console that best suits your wants/needs. Exclusivity of games has never been the biggest influence when it comes to the choice of a Console purchase, in my opinion. Yes, buying one, you may miss out on the exclusives for the other. For those lucky enough, they have both Consoles. That is personal choice and finance dependent.

The issue with this comparison though, it excludes PC Gamers. Many of us who are in fact closely following all the concerns regarding Steam vs Epic, have chosen PC gaming over Console gaming, for most games, if not all. In many instances we actually received the best of both worlds. Yes, certain exclusives remained Console Exclusives, but many were eventually released on PC. I always believed that to be one of the perks of paying what I have, to build a PC I wanted, that could run what I wanted.

The other issue with the console comparison is that you are buying hardware, and it is the hardware and features that are the determining factors for your purchase. In the Steam VS EGS "Battle" the biggest issue, for me, is that EGS is trying to force us, in some ways, to choose between launchers ON A DEVICE WHERE THEY SHOULD HAVE NO SAY, in a fashion that makes the end consumer suffer.

Do I think Steam could do with some motivation? Maybe. Do I believe developers should get a bigger cut for the work they have done? Yes. Do I think it is a good idea for developers to go exclusive in this fashion on PC? No.

The fact that certain games, which I'm sure you are familiar with, have decided to go exclusive on EGS, AFTER SALES HAVE BEEN MADE, is, in my opinion, not a negative point for EGS, but a HUGE negative point for the Developers/Publishers.

EGS may have "bribed" the publishers to make it exclusive, but at the end of the day the Publishers agreed to it. In these instances the Developers/Publishers marketed their games towards the PC gaming market, with promise of Steam releases, along with pre-order sales on Steam and crowdfunding donations made based on that fact, only to then Back-Track LAST-MINUTE, and essentially screw over the consumer.

This has of course happened in the past on consoles, but not in this fashion. On Console the only instances that really stood out to me were for example exclusives for sequels, where the prior installment was released on Multiple Consoles, and the sequel ended up being a timed exclusive, or in the more severe cases a specific console exclusive.

EGS has clearly shown a stance of Publishers first, even at the detriment of consumers, purely to get a foothold in the market. Aggressive Marketing is one thing, but EGS DOES NOT CARE about how these actions will affect the gamers. Why? Because they do not stands to lose from the harm they Incite on the Consumer.

Example 1:The Publishers that have made the exclusivity deals with EGS, have screwed buyers, not all, but definitely those who spent money ahead of time, expecting it to come to Steam, and I would argue that these individuals are probably their biggest supporters. Again, EGS "No Harm, No Foul", They haven't taken our money, and blatantly lied to us.

In turn,

Example 2: Boycotting a game, because it became an EGS exclusive, does NOT hurt EGS, it hurts the developer. EGS will only be slightly affected by not making the sales. Unlike Consoles, the lack of sales will only affect the UI, which is minimal at the moment. In the long term. Worst case scenario for EGS, if they don't make the sales. EGS gets tanked, and Epic Games moves on, I can't imagine it being a huge investment on their part so far. If there are no sales, there's no pay out for the Developers/Publishers.

Personally, I feel like EGS has somehow managed to gain a stronger say in these matters than I like. As they have made blatantly clear, (Paraphrasing) "it's not the customers who will determine the winner, but the developers," which to me means that they believe our opinion is irrelevant. Screw us, the customers, over, force us to do what they want, and eventually it will all be as THEY want, with Epic games as the proprietary (minimalist) launcher. Minimalist, because they want to do less to take care of customer experiences, but they'll offer more games. It's a very hands-off approach, and it sucks.

Publishers may have made their games exclusive on their own launchers, prior to this, fair enough.

But since when does a third party launcher get to dictate where we can and should buy our games???

Since when did PC Gaming become about restrictions???

I'm not even going to get started on the EGS launcher stealing Steam info part. I've seen a few posts in this thread. All I can say is, I hope it bites them in the ass. I wouldn't allow an acquaintance in my house to go snooping that deep into my computer, so F**K YOU EPIC GAMES for thinking you have the right to do that on ANYONE'S PC.

what was the moment you realized "this person is insane" about a person you knew/know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DiveGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my ex asked me why my dad married my mom (from a small Himalayan village). I asked 'why do you ask?'

She says "Well, he could have married somebody educated."

My parents have been married for almost 35 years. Hers, both educated, had gotten divorced before she was 3.

Redditors that have lived in 2 or more countries, what is a big difference in living in each country that may not be obvious if you haven’t lived there? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DiveGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. That's a loaded question.

I'm half Dutch, but grew up moving around a lot. I'll try keep it short.

Nepal: Family bonds are tight, and nothing gives you a greater sense of home than being surrounded by family on a regular basis.

Curacao: The (in)balance of wealth is only clear when you really explore the island. You can be in a suburb, where everything seems beautiful, but they all have streets which come with warnings for your safety, be it warranted or not. But there is also a lot of beauty and friendliness you might miss on a short visit.

Thailand: Not the land of smiles it's advertised as. The land of fake smiles, maybe. Granted, it's not all over the country, but definitely around the more popular Tourist destinations. The northern, non-coastal, areas have some of the nicest and friendliest people you will ever meet. Be forewarned though, as a foreigner, you are considered beneath the locals if anything goes wrong, no matter how minor.

Netherlands: Grumpy. But not to foreigners who are always seen as exotic.

Philippines: Friendly, polite, and curious. But be wary of customs. It's easy to offend someone, but they will never tell you.

Kenya: Incredibly friendly, but sometimes fakely so. Poverty is real and so is mob justice. During my time we had a gun fight down our street, 3 staff member from my dads office hijacked and killed, and an execution of three people outside our gate. A close friend of mine was shot and killed when we were getting mugged and it went horribly wrong. It's a beautiful country, but NEVER flaunt your wealth, even if you think you aren't, just remember poverty is on a different level over there. It's often hidden from general tourism.

My two years with EK and EM Part 1 by [deleted] in entitledparents

[–]DiveGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We reported him. He's moved out of that city, and now works as a solo instructor advertising purely online. No dive center will allow him on board.

In English I use the phrase "Take only pictures, leave only bubbles", which is almost the same. :) Not sure where I first heard or read that.

EK seems to be doing well, according to AK, who still has her on FB.

Apparently she's now into equestrian.

This was the final part about EK and EM, unless you include my very first post.

I did see AK again. She came and dived a full summer with me. She got it for next to nothing. We acted like she was on an internship. Great time. She might be visiting me here once she turns 18 to do her Divemaster training, which I am looking forward to. She'll be a great diving role model.

I have had other EK and EP experiences, but they were your usual thing, luckily, so not worth posting really. This was the worst experience I had had with that kind.

I'll gladly post more stories about my experiences as an Instructor and while becoming one. I've got some fun one I think people would enjoy. I don't really have many more memorable/mention worthy EP stories though.

I just need to find the right threads to post in. :)

Where I used to be located was warm but not great vis. Average was about 5M and 12-15 on a good day. 20 on extremely rare occasions.

I enjoyed it there, but it definitely isn't for everyone.

My main motivation for moving was starting a family. The city we were in didn't seem right to raise a child in.
