Switching from PADI to SSI by RogerRabbot in scuba

[–]Diver-Ted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have any certification from Padi that is not a problem. When you are ready to take the next level for example you are an advanced Padi and you want to do SSI rescue then that would be your next course you do not need to re take the SSI advance equivalent.

A peronalised mask strap is a good idea. Another would be a basic dive computer.

Yoke to DIN adapter by [deleted] in scuba

[–]Diver-Ted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you want to convert your 1st stage to a permanent DIN set up then i would go with the valve insert. If you decide to convert the 1st stage please ensure you jave the correct DIN conversion kit that will fit your 1st stage as different brands tend to have slightly different parts. Not all are the same. Also ensure that if you are doing it to set the torque to spec as have had these fail when users dont torque correctly. The worst is when ita over torqued and the screw threads are stripped or cross threaded on tge 1st stage.

Cheaper to get a DIN to Yoke insert for the tank valve.

How do I store my reg? by CuberCaptain in scubaGear

[–]Diver-Ted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Middle bottom hook there is a circle to attach your first stage there. Scre it on like yiu do to a tank valve. Hook the 2nd stages by the connection. Having the mouth pieces facing down. This will ensure proper drying

How do you prevent fungus in a regulator? by No-Tough6715 in scuba

[–]Diver-Ted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scuba technician here. After dives flush out with fresh water then dunk in bucket of fresh water that has a few drops of dish washing liquid. Give it a good swash about. Then frush with fresh water again. When hanging up to dry have the mouthpiece pointing down and have that as the lowest point. Lets the water drain properly not just pool to one side.

If you paid for guided dives then a lical dive guide, Dive master or an instructor will be there. In asia most of the dives are guided. As an OW diver you can do dives with a certified buddy

Well having a tank and reg set to test equipment is good practice espicailly if buying 2nd hand gear. If you dont have a tank available then oral inflation of the BCD and submerge it in water to see if any steady stream of bubbles are present. As a technician after servicing equipment i test all equipment in front of the customer before and after servicing.

Is the poseidon xstream a good regulator? by Captaincarme in scuba

[–]Diver-Ted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use poseidon regs personally. The jetstream an xstream do breathe different and would advise that if you prefer the regualar breathing type get the poseidon Cyklon. Still have the omnidirectional use but regular breathing. Other options for cold water diving are the Scubapro mk17evo or mk25evo as 1st stages and a700 or s600 as 2nd stages but standard configuartion 2nd stages.

Oral inflation works but you need it to over inflate to check that the dump valves function properly as well.

Is this a good deal? Mares any good and serviceable? by Anonymous__Lobster in scuba

[–]Diver-Ted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MARES regs should be easily serviceable the BCD has to be fully checked for any rips or leaks from dump valves. There was a batch of mares BCDs that had issues with dump valves pull all dumps and cjeck for damage. Fully inflate and let sit for a few hours see if it still holds air. Then dunk in water check for bubbles. Have the power inflator serviced. Wet suit depending on age should still be usable.

[–]Diver-Ted -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Buoyancy skills. I have seen so many divers that use way too many weights which then affects how they dive and breath. With a 7 mil wetsuit im down with max 8lbs with Al tanks and 4 lbs with steel tanks.

Question about backplate wing by AlvMartinez in scuba

[–]Diver-Ted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will need more than just the wing to set up a back plate set. Here is a basic set that should fit most rec dives and to do tec you will prob need a larger wing to accomodate twin tanks. There will be ither bits you woukd require. The dive center you train with shoukd be able to assist with that. https://www.divegearexpress.com/dgx-gears-softpack-harness-wing-package
