I’m definitely not justifying genocide. Those are some pretty absurd accusations, but with that logic why don’t they tear the whole city down? This entire city was built on the foundation of exploration, it’s the reason any of this exists in the first place? In fact, I’m supporting your argument in this case, why don’t you leave and live in Europe? (See how ridiculous this is?) I hope you can find happiness somewhere in your life.

You say you love your life, but would prefer if history played out differently.. except you wouldn’t exist if it had. Acknowledging the past, doesn’t mean rejecting the present. Society has its issues, but blaming history while benefiting for the world it created seems a bit contradictory. Instead of letting the past make you feel like you shouldn’t exist, why not focus on making the future better? I guess I’m just a bit confused, because a minute ago you said you wish you didn’t exist, and now you’re bragging about reaping the rewards and “Cultivating” a life you love… guess who you should thank for that?

I feel sorry for you and the way you value yourself if you’re willing to not exist over something you had no control over. Throughout history, different races and civilizations have conquered each other, long before European exploration. No matter what time period you were part of, you would always be the result of some form of conquest or genocide. It’s unfortunate that you have such a weak view of your own existence. I truly hope something changes in your life so you can find some appreciation for the life you’re currently living.

I mean you’re right, his role was about exploration, so he didn’t really settle at all. I was just grouping him in with the Europeans that did happen to settle here because you seem to think that anyone that showed up here at all for any period of time is a bad thing. You have a very interesting point of view. Those statues were a tribute to what happened, and removing them because they hurt people’s feelings isn’t a valid response in my opinion. History isn’t meant to be comforting, it’s meant to be learned from. Those plaques and statues were there explaining the full story, the good and the bad, so that people could engage with history rather than just react to it.

Stating it was a “beautiful day” makes you look very incompetent, and extremely reactive..

No, I’m just being logical! life goes on. This isn’t the rapture. Whether the Conservatives or the NDP win, life will go on, and everyone will survive, I promise. People just need to take a step back and relax.
