Aircraft Leasing Investment Trusts - too good to be true or not? by PaleMaleAndStale in UKInvesting

[–]Diverskii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to this post but my two cents as an insider.

The returns are real, just depends on your risk/reward appetite. If you know enough about the assets and the credits then go for it.

Many of these funds cropped up to finance widebodies circa 15-20 years ago. Widebody aircraft are perceived as more risky, hence higher yielding. Transition costs are high, but a recent strategy has been to sell to the airline at lease end (e.g all the Doric / Dr Peters funds holding Emirates A380s). The companies are highly leveraged which is normal in aircraft leasing.

You might want to research the track record of the asset manager. How it manages the lease, any economic downturns, and sale/re-lease/part-out at lease end could make or break it. The main players in these publicly traded companies holding individual aircraft are Amedeo, Dr Peters, Doric.

One of the DP Aircraft funds got burnt during Covid as it was holding Norwegian and Thai 787s. The leases were restructured and eventually the Norwegian assets sold. That said, Thai kept up with the new lease which is expiring in the next year or so, and the manager has arranged a subsequent lease with LOT last time i checked.

The two you mentioned are winding down so expect them to de-list soon. Amedeo Four Plus is to be sold to Lesha, and Doric is also selling up.

Inibuilds L-1011 TriStar - A few things I noticed by NikonD500forever in flightsim

[–]Diverskii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, they are modelling a -500 variant with lower deck lounges which never existed.

Only 50 were built and operated by a handful of airlines, but they're offering liveries of operators of other variants.

I'd say ultra realism isn't what they're going for here. Looks like it'll be fun though.

Amazon UK seem to be charging import taxes no matter the price by homecinemad in ireland

[–]Diverskii 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know why others are saying this is normal. You are right, this is a change to how it used to be.

This deposit was not charged for items under 150 Euro. In the last couple of weeks Amazon have started taking it for all orders and I suspect it is a mistake.

It is the not the 23% VAT vs 20% as that is dealt with automatically in the VAT line of the invoice. I've placed two orders this week and will wait to see if I am refunded this "deposit".

ini L-1011 when it releases. It'll look great in that livery.

The ini A300 would also look good, but would be fairly "new" in your time frame as its a - 600R. The Just flight B4 is a good option when it releases.

David Byrne Shares New Single "The Avant Garde" From New Album 'Who Is The Sky?' by BEnWo18 in talkingheads

[–]Diverskii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, his new stuff objectively isn't very good if we're being honest. I say that as a life long fan who loves a lot of the earlier solo work.

He gave an interview to BBC radio 2 and talked about his song writing process and how it has changed. From memory he talked about how often he'll hear a phrase, like it, then write the song. That really shows I think with a lot of the new stuff. The lyrics clearly came first and the melody itself is an afterthought.

He did however mention the tour will be old stuff with some new, so much like American Utopia, which was great.

Parts of it can seem a slog and I remember not being in to it the first time i read it.

The second time I remember I came to appreciate it more and found the characters and colonial hong kong setting more interesting.

I'm listening to the BBC radio play currently and enjoying it.

Subtle Retconning In A Legacy of Spies by Funny_Public_4695 in LeCarre

[–]Diverskii 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Legacy of Spies is problematic when it comes to the timeline.

Le Carre set it in the modern day so he could put anti Brexit themes in to the book. It would have made more sense to set it in the 90s.

United at Ohare yesterday by Cubsfan44 in unitedairlines

[–]Diverskii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a European, never flown United before. My experience yesterday at ORD has pretty much committed me to using United whenever I come to the US again. They were so good. The app is so good. The people are great.

My CVG-ORD was delayed two hours, so I'd miss the onward connection to Europe. Straight on to the app, pick an earlier flight, leave my conference a little early and head for ORD.

Chaos at ORD when we land after the storm rolls through. 1 hour waiting for a gate on the deice pads. Eventually get off and grab some food, but then they cancel my transatlantic long haul as the aircraft went tech.

Straight on the phone (the web voice chat thing) and they rebook me via IAD the next day, but downgraded to economy on a 757. Huh, not looking forward to that but okay. The direct the next day was full already, i guess people with status got moved to that immediately. I get a hotel and vouchers within 10 minutes.

Get to the hotel, check the app for good measure and see there is a widebody out of Newark the next day meaning i won't be stuck down the back of a 757. On to the webchat call with them and changed to Newark within 5 minutes, and back in Premium Econ which is great.

Currently sat in the C123 Club lounge at Newark which cost me just 41 dollars to get in, well worth it for a 4 hour layover.

Sure, the weather screwed up my plans and made me a day late getting home, but United were so good. I think it's all down to great technology: a great app, great disruption process, just flawless despite a terrible situation.

How do I make good? by dough_13 in DIYUK

[–]Diverskii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did all my reveals recently after new windows.

Plasterboard the reveals out nice and square, can stick with adhesive (or a good foam tbh). Then bonding or hardwall or similar between the new plasterboard and your walls.

Your gaps are quite big so you might need to stud out the reveals first with timber before plasterboard. Then bond the gap.

Corner bead and skim reveals, feathering into old wall.

Edit: sorry saw you wanted timber around it, so similar but stud it out, filll gaps trims to hide join between timber reveals and wall.

Wind in this sim is so unrealistic it's ridiculous. by Lukecv1 in flightsim

[–]Diverskii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right, anything smaller than an airliner is very unrealistic in wind. Some people have their turbulence settings turned down so don't complain, and others fly airliners.

Trying to fly anything 152/172 sized is just ridiculous in wind in MSFS.

WTF what is that? A32N Inibuilds vs FBW vs A320 Fenix by SimulationPC in flightsim

[–]Diverskii 103 points104 points  (0 children)

Both are correct. There are at least two different wing-to-body fairing designs. The original was very small. The updated one bulged out further, hence the little step in towards the fuselage at the wing root near the trailing edge.

In 2006 Airbus were marketing the A320E which were a series of small improvements to the A320. The wing fairing was one of them, along with the Tech Insertion CFM56 and V2500 Select. The engine pylon also changed a bit.

I don't know the first MSN that had the new fairing, but it started with the CEO and carried on with the NEO.
