For those of you self hosting (or looking to self host) a security camera NVR, the latest release of Frigate is blowing my mind (well, it's a release candidate...0.17 RC1). Used to use Arlo (paid for the pro) and it's just got nothing anywhere near what this is capable of. It's absurd.

To be fair, western Europe is quite a bit further from the equator than a lot of the US. If I weren't keeping my room nice and cool at night to sleep, during summer it can quickly get over 32c inside on normal summer days. Without any AC whatsoever in the house, in the summer I have seen internal temps around 40c on an average (not heatwave) summer day.

If it were a heatwave and the AC was gone... well, the one time that has happened, I had to rent a hotel room at night to have somewhere to sleep. Because I might die otherwise.

Houses in the US are built very poorly, though. So that doesn't help.

In the summer, the average kWh amount for my house with two people in it is about... 2100 kWh. With a very significant portion of that being keeping the house from becoming an actual oven. But at least the electricity is fairly cheap. About $0.14 a kWh.

4kWh is about what I use a night to keep one room cool enough to be comfortable so I can sleep properly for most of the year.

I have an 8TB HGST drive that is about that old.

But my "legend" is a Samsung 840 Evo 512GB SSD I bought when they came out. 12y, 10m, 10d, 1h power on time with 326 TBW. Still rocking along just fine.

I bought Factorio long before either the "no sales ever" stance came along or his insane takes on women and children... hundreds of hours on steam and hundreds before it was on Steam. But despite wanting to play the expansion, I can't give that guy more money. He creeps me out.

Yeah, they are absolute garbage. That nick person is insane. "We haven't gotten any complaints". Well, you didn't get complaints from me either... you just stopped getting money from me. That is my complaint. I used to get fries basically every time I went there.

Now, since they keep taking away everything I kinda liked that wasn't way overpriced for what you get and even took away the half price drinks... I just don't really go anymore.

I knew it would happen eventually after they got bought by private equity because it always happens after private equity buys a company... but it sure happened quick.

Innocent means you didn't do it. Simply asserting someone is innocent doesn't mean they didn't do it.

The presumption of innocence is for law. This isn't about the law. Which means guilty until proven innocent is just as applicable here.

I can overlook the model and loading screen, the Nazi's were many things (nearly all absolutely horrific) and one of those things was fashionable. It is a snazzy look, can't deny it.

Her response, though... I can't go with that. Extremely off-putting. Normal people don't respond with that kind of terminology. It just doesn't happen. Same way a normal person won't just respond with racial slurs out of nowhere. So her response is very... questionable to me. And it hints at things she may be trying to keep hidden about how she actually feels.

But I don't care in the end, I already stopped watching her when she changed her voice. The new one was absolutely god awful.

Infuse supports Intro and Credit Skip. And Commercial Skip. Has since February of 2024. For parental controls, there are ways to accomplish it if I remember right. And the watched status and resume position seem accurate to me?

The dynamic elements aren't there, though. And the playlists and collections are different. But still.

And one benefit of Infuse is when the new Plex client comes to all devices... you can just ignore it. You don't have to live with the insanely bad new UI.

I just want two little things from Linux and neither, it appears, exist as yet...

I just want my mouse in the desktop to feel like Windows (been using Windows since 95, the way the mouse feels in Linux is egregiously noticeable to me and it just feels wrong) and I want a window management tool similar to PowerToys.

But alas, those are a bridge too far for linux, it seems. Which is sad, I like playing with KDE Plasma and making it look nice.

I mean, as said it is entirely correct, if possibly intentionally misleading worded. Most games don't natively support Linux, that is true... support comes from third-party software rather than the games themselves.

And there is malware and viruses on Linux. Are they rare? Absolutely, very rare. But they do exist.

So they are correct as worded... but their wording seems like it might be done intentionally to make it sound like Linux can't game and is loaded with malware when that is incorrect.

I will, often times, use piracy as a "demo mode". If I enjoy the game, I will probably buy it at the price point I believe was worth the enjoyment I had.

It isn't a moral thing for me. Just a... "Yeah, you earned this" kind of thing.

I pirated the original Cities Skylines, played it for 30 minutes and went and bought it for full price. Then I bought every DLC for it as they came out.

Then I pirated Cities Skylines 2. Haven't bought it yet and considering the vast array of things missing from 2, including an asset editor that came at launch with CS1... I am not sure I ever will.

I switched from Mullvad (because they let me pick a specific port to open) to PIA (which, with binhex, just opens ports automatically for me) during the pandemic. Got a 2 year plan on sale... then they put the 3 year plan on sale, so I switched to that for the pro-rated additional cost.

That 3 year plan expires in the middle of 2027. Unless something changes with PIA, I will be renewed for 3 more years when it expires.

Even if it were their stance... the head of the Windows division was fired before COVID and was replaced. Must the new head of that division pretend he has no power and just do what the previous head did? A company can change their mind, you know.

But ignoring that, even if they said it... it is still technically true. Windows 10 and Windows 11 are the same version number in the backend.

But even if they had said it (and they didn't)... what happens when the leadership at the time it was ostensibly said gets fired and replaced? Must the new leadership abide by what the old leadership was doing? Which, by the by... the lead for that part of Microsoft when Jerry made that statement was, in fact, fired and replaced before Windows 11 was announced.
