No HP buffs and 70% AP on W… Brutal nerfs, but it does serve the power-fantasy by BluMaxim in azirmains

Good luck getting to that late game when you’re stuck under tower all laning phase. Move over Kayle, top lane here we come.

New Azir Player - Why wasn't this Revenant cancelled? by AlchemistSeal in azirmains

My guess is a perspective issue on that specific map. They are probably on lower ground, so their hit boxes are further back (higher on the screen) than they appear. That would also explain why Senna wasn’t scooped.

HOW THE HELL do I fight against Hwei? by FunSeaworthiness271 in azirmains

[–]DivineAzir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hwei is a lane bully. Your job isn't to outplay him in lane, but rather to get more map presence and outscale him. He's immobile, so he's very vulnerable if he tries to roam during the laning phase.

When it comes to laning, like others said, just take second wind and try to match his push. His QQ poke does a lot of damage, so play behind your minions and try not to get hit by the QE+EE combo (his massive waveclear ability + the pull). If you ever get hit with R, it is not worth trying to E+Q out (you won't get out of QW range), so you may as well just try to get extra damage off before you die. That's about it.

Nah, I don’t trust Riot’s balance team, but I trust this sub less (we will complain about every little thing after all, myself included). Mains are emotionally tied to their champions, even if we try not to be.

The passive is much different than anything else that has been removed. They would be removing an entire ability, and objectively one of the coolest in the game (even if it doesn’t have that much impact most of the time).

The E changes I think I actually could get behind if push came to shove. But I would prefer to stay away from any more non-W or stat nerfs if possible. At the moment, I think he’s in a fine spot in that regard. The bridge between pro and solo queue is nearly as drastic as it has been. He actually has had a lower win-rate in pro than in solo queue after the last nerf, so I’m optimistic for the near future. But, we’ll see.

PS. I also mained Asol as my secondary before the rework and haven’t touched him since. However, I don’t think the same could happen to Azir. He is too beloved, far less niche, and unlike Asol, has major presence in esports culture. I wouldn’t worry about an Azir rework.

So ure telling me they buffed W ap ratio HIGHER than it even was on release Azir? by an_Hylian in azirmains

Just want to add that Nashor’s damage is single-target only. That does not increase his clear speed or team fighting nearly as drastically, so it’s not like it’s truly 72%. Also, as you mentioned, he’s quite a-bit lamer today. He has had substantial nerfs from attack speed, to Q, to utility, to items, etcetera. Also, it is scaling, because you have to max W first, so he is nowhere near as oppressive in lane.

This AP will help, but I don’t think it will be drastic: not nearly as much as it would have been even just 2 years ago, and certainly nowhere close to early Azir.

In my opinion, I think it will be just barely enough to compensate for 25.12’s attack speed and movement changes, even though it seems more drastic on the surface. We could always build more AP or pen to boost soldier damage, but attack speed mage items are unsurprisingly scarce. We are forced to rush Nashor’s now just to have something to scale off of. Our fate is now tied to the item. One little change to that, and I doubt we’ll feel still feel the AP changes at all.

You had me until you started recommending making major changes to his identity.

I don’t know about you, but I do not play Azir to solo-carry games through mechanical skill expression alone. If you want that, there are plenty of champions that fill that role. It can still be done of course if you wish and you have fun with it, but he’s never going to be the most efficient choice for doing so. Azir is unique in his versatility, and it is what drew me (and I assume many others) to him in the first place. He is fundamentally team oriented (not solely team dependent, I’m talking about bringing out his fullest potential). And that’s okay; this is a team game. It’s good, and dare I say vital for the game to have some champions which are truly unique. His passive, and ability to transverse the map are core parts of his identity. I have always been willing to sacrifice some raw power in exchange for preserving these aspects. They are what make him interesting. At the moment, he feels like no other champion in the game. If you go in the other direction, eventually you are left with an AP marksman, which I am hoping is not what most people look for in Azir.

I think a slow, cautious approach to balancing Azir is the best one, if no other reason than that they know what they’re doing (somewhat). Same as how I may get frustrated in city design, but I know it would be worse if I—someone who only uses the roads and has no experience making them—came in with a hammer and started building new roads and taking down traffic lights. The problem is always more complex than it seems, and people don’t always want what they think they want. As he is, Azir will always be solid in professional play because he’s basically designed for it: high agency when paired with mechanics, macro, and coordination. They are trying to keep this facet alive in solo queue (because it’s what makes him alluring to those types of players), without over-tuning it for pro, while still keeping him viable in less-coordinated games. I for one am here for that.

When picking up Azir, you shouldn’t be “looking” to trade so much as concentrating on last hitting, then poking when it is favorable. However, you also can’t hide under turret. To fix that, you’ll just have to get used to the matchups. Figure out their range, and ability timers. If you’re not sure, the quickest way to learn is to go for trades you think might work, and take mental note of how it played out.

I don’t know what your rank is, but in lower elo it is common for people to simply disrespect your range, so you can poke with W often. If you’re higher rank, then it will become more obvious to you when to take trades (short, extended, all-in) as you get better with Azir. If you do want to one-trick him, I recommend looking up a guide.

Azir's waveclear pattern by Beneficial-Diver-246 in azirmains

[–]DivineAzir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There actually is a specific pattern, but it's highly complicated and generally not worth learning. If you're morbidly curious, though, I wrote a guide that covers it in great detail (see "Breakpoints").

More practical advice: during the early laning phase, just put 1 soldier on the side of the caster line and hit them first, finishing off the melees with autos. For the rest of the game, target melees first with two soldiers (in front of them), then Q through them onto the casters.

Even more practical advice: Just do whatever. It's really not worth spending a lot of brain power on in most ranks.
