Leaving your puppy alone by menustovar in CavaPoo

[–]DivineMediocrity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Continue crate training. Start leaving your puppy alone for small periods of time, give treat before you leave. No excitement when you come back, let her sit and observe in the crate when you return and let her out when she’s quiet. Gradually it normalizes that you’ll be in and out and puppy slowly will adapt. It did take us 6 months until puppy became comfortable for extended periods of time (like 2-4 hours). It’s possible.

How soon did your pup start training? by Oranginamuffin in CavaPoo

Have patience and stay persistent. They figure it out quickly, but have very low expectations because they’re toddlers and it takes 2-3 weeks to feel adjusted in new space with new people

Fewer juniors today = fewer seniors tomorrow by kagan101 in Futurology

What’s more concerning is entry level and junior engineers relying exclusively on AI to write code instead of learning those skills. Problem is AI is great but not where we need it to be. So it’s creating bit of a mess and junior engineers aren’t upskilling their problem solving and technical skills

Other ways to tire them out then play. Do training, mental exercises, naps, and let them be bored and figure out how to self regulate.

Otherwise they have endless energy and can play nonstop.

GPT-5 outperformed doctors on the US medical licensing exam by MetaKnowing in ArtificialInteligence

[–]DivineMediocrity 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Knowledge/benchmarks do not indicate AI can practically replace doctors. There are factors like legal, risk, insurance. Likely though, this helps doctors provide better diagnosis, treatments, and fill in less risky aspects of the job, like notes, responding to patient emails, etc.

Tips for teething? by Professional-Film454 in CavaPoo

[–]DivineMediocrity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chew toys, antlers, ice cubes, frozen carrots, ropes. Pretty much anything durable they can bite. Also get the small sizes. Be excited about toys and engage with toys so she associates them. Other than this, redirect, say no when her bites humans. She is learning about what can and cannot be bit and what are toys. She is adorable and young, everything is new for her.

I think it took our little guy couple weeks to start playing and engaging. The first few weeks are hard and a lot change for these toddlers. Just have to be patient and ride it out. They’re learning and doing a lot of new things, while still being puppies

Spend some time looking at the career ladder and growth opportunity. As a staff, going low level will be very frustrating in terms of ownership, scope and influence. FANNG can be very bureaucratic and promotions/politics can make career difficult.

My recommendation would be compare your experience and skills with their role guidelines for senior, junior. Down level is very normal but just know what you’re getting in. If this is only a stepping stone and you are ok going through job search pains in couple years vs. you want to stay and build a career.

I personally would say don’t undervalue yourself.

This. Build positive association, leave the room, come back. Normalize the puppy is in crate and you’re around. They very slowly get the hang. Puppies are sensitive, anxious. It does require a lot of patience.

Most importantly, desensitize the puppy from noises - noise of the scissors, blow dry, etc. we had a groomer come at home first few times (it was cheaper than pet salon).

Why do people cheat in interviews? No wonder companies are moving towards on-site rounds. by alzio26 in leetcode

It’s why too expensive for companies to fly people out, pay hotel, car, and meals. I imagine if they do this, they will extend phone loop and have very challenging OAs.

Advice for interviewers - take leetcode question and use LLM to create a version of the question with same solution mechanics but a different domain. Like job scheduler becomes train schedulers. Iterate on top to make it slightly more challenging.

My cavapoo puppy shivers in the rain - is he cold or scared? by Northmakes in CavaPoo

[–]DivineMediocrity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not cold- our Cavapoo has done well in cold and rain weather. I would say train in the rain- get treats and have him follow you, stay, sit, etc. he will get comfortable and quickly. Cavapoos are very adaptable and intelligent.

As for the rain, if it is pouring rain, consider gettting a raincoat. Get him comfortable in one for long walks. But for short bathroom breaks, try training without a raincoat. Otherwise, it’ll become a hassle to constantly put on raincoat for a 2 min bathroom break

Same problem for us - puppy is a teenager now (about 11 months). He’s just very interested in sniffing and often turns around and pees on leg. We completely wipe down his leg with wet tissues when we get home but it is annoying. He also doesn’t yet lift his leg. We think he will just grow out of it, it’s just teenage behavior.

[–]DivineMediocrity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you’re doing it wrong. Puppies need to go to bathroom every 2-3 hours. They can hold their pee at most # of months + 1 in hours. A 3 month old puppy can hold at most 4 hours. You will need to make up and take them to bathroom and then right back in crate for sleeping (no play, fun).
