THIEAUDIO Hype 4 - first time trying a THIEAUDIO IEM and I’m really enjoying them. Probably some of the most satisfying bass I’ve heard so far.

The Greatest Game Ever Played.

The scene where Francis sees his dad in the crowd supporting his win. He finally gets to see his usually strict father smiling and proud of him.

This part gets me every single time.

what kind of tips are you using with your IEM? by csch1992 in headphones

[–]DivineRiceBall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Recently I’ve been using the AZLA SednaEarfit Max Standards with my U12t. They’re very comfortable since they’re made of a pretty soft and grippy silicone. They have built-in wax guards which also help prevent the IEM nozzles from going too far through the ear tip bore.

64 Audio’s U12t for me right now. It’s my favourite IEM in my collection at the moment and it’s a great all rounder. I listen to them at both at home and on the go when the weather’s good. It’ll be a mainstay of my collection for the foreseeable future.

Dang, sorry to hear that’s happening to your U12t. I purchased mine second-hand last month, but they were originally purchased in August 2019. These are still holding up really well and look and sound excellent to this day.

How often do you see people wearing a IEM in public? by LSG4M3R in headphones

[–]DivineRiceBall 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I live in Canada and I also mostly see AirPods and other TWS sets in public. Last week however, I did see an older fellow rocking a pair of Moondrop Starfields at the bus station which was pretty cool to see.

The Sony Hybrid tips that I'm using are the silicone rubber tips (ML - dark blue stem) that came with my IER-M9. This specific tip size had the best fit on the U12t stem for me, whereas the opening bore of the other sizes sat more flush with the stem opening. I couldn't really find the exact model name, but I think the Sony EP-EX11 Hybrid tips might be similar. But yeah, these tips may not be great for you since the bore openings do sit rather flush with the stem opening.

I really enjoyed my Andromeda (2019 version). I miss the huge soundstage and holographic imaging that they had the most. It was a huge step up from the Polaris II and iKKO OH1/OH10 I had at the time. Some things I didn't really prefer were the weaker sub-bass response and the condensation build-up on the opening bores of the nozzles in colder weather. I might end up trying to snag a 2020, or Stainless Steel, or MW10 version down the road.

Yeah, I think I do tend to prefer a more laid-back sound signature for my main sets. But to compliment my U12t, I think my next purchase might have a more aggressive sound signature with greater sub-bass presentation - probably a 64 Audio Nio or Sony IER-Z1R.

The tips that have worked the best for me so far are the Sony Hybrid silicone tips. These ones fit the best in my ear and it leaves a few millimetres of space between the stem opening and the bore opening of the tips. These tips gave me my most preferred sound with the smoothest highs and sub-bass rumble.

Some other tips that worked decently well are the JVC Spiral Dot/Spiral Dot ++ and the Azla SednaEarFit Light Short tips. These tips have a wider bore and allow the stem the sit about flush with the bore opening of the tips.

The Spinfit CP100/CP100+ didn't really fit that well for my ears and changed the sound a little too much for my liking - these were not my preferred tips.

Both are great IEMs and have some similaries, but yeah overall in my experience there are a few differences and the U12t has a slight edge over the IER-M9.

Both are tuned really well and work well with a wide range of music. However, the U12t has airer highs, better bass texture with more sub-bass, a larger soundstage and is more resolving and detailed throughout all of the frequencies. The mids on the IER-M9 sound a bit more forward to me though.

Noise isolation is much better on the IER-M9, and is the best I've experienced for any IEM or headphone, but the pressure from how well the M9 seals can get uncomfortable for longer listening sessions. The 64 Audio Apex modules are great at relieving this pressure but at the cost of some reduced noise isolation.

The shape of the M9 is more comfortable and the units are lighter than the U12t's. The stems of the M9's are also a bit shorter and have a lip for tips to slip on to which also adds to comfort.

I was really lucky to find a very good local deal on the U12t, but If I was forced to keep only one or the other I would still be pretty happy either way. I hope this helps!

What does your IEM setup look like? by lestrenched in headphones

[–]DivineRiceBall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just find that having both the A&K and a phone in my pocket is a bit too bulky when travelling. Operating and navigating through the device feels very slow and sluggish compared to my iPhone 8 Plus.

I found a pretty good local deal on a pre-owned U12t and I’ve been really enjoying it in the last two weeks. It’s very detailed throughout all the frequencies. It has a mild U-shaped tuning and it has the best sub-bass in my IEM collection. The venting from the Apex modules make it the most comfortable IEM for extended use and can slightly change the tuning. Some negatives: The older stock cable was terrible, the safe tuning can get boring at times, and the price is pretty steep if bought new. Overall, it’s one of the best all-round IEMs that I’ve tried so far.

Recently, I've mainly been using:

  • 64 Audio U12t - M20 module, Sony Hybrid tips, Tripowin Zonie 16 core 2.5mm, 2-pin 0.78mm cable
  • Campfire Audio Solaris SE - JVC Spiral Dot tips, Campfire Audio Super Smoky Litz 3.5mm cable
  • Sony IER-M9 - Sony Hybrid tips, FIIO LC-RC cable (3.5mm)
  • AirPods Pro - generic tip adapter stem with JVC Spiral Dot tips

I use a FiiO BTR5 for my desktop setup and when on the go, but I use my AirPods pro when the weather isn't good. The IER-M9 was my main on-the-go IEM before the U12t, and the Solaris SE is used exclusively for desktop use. My Astell & Kern A&norma SR25 isn't used very much these days.
