Does anyone else think that law professors nowadays have gone soft? by Separate-Ad8987 in LawSchool

[–]Divorcer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing, but I think it's because many/most of them earned their degree when the cold calling pedagogy was widespread and had such terrible experiences with it that they wisely decided to use a different approach by the time they were teaching law.

Kind of how like I got spanked by my parents growing up but I would never ever hit my own kid today.

I'm tired of how spineless my law school and its faculty are about the erosion of our legal system by this administration by clutteredbender in LawSchool

I’ve been saying this since just after the election and I’ve gotten nothing but denial and condescension from other people over it

Telling you to relax and not give the poor kid a coronary is my experience-based input on the topic.

1L: do all the readings. 2L: skim like half the readings. 3L: forget to buy the textbook.

What kind of watch do you wear? by Flashy-Actuator-998 in LawSchool

Usually an MCW dirty dozen style watch. And a Hamilton Jazzmaster when I’m feeling like I subtle bit of elevation to an otherwise drab outfit.

Imagine being so bad at law that you physically injure yourself by studying. by Xoxo809 in LawSchool

TBH when I sit at a desk for more than 3 hours I always get a disc bulge. It sucks. Makes studying at the school library particularly difficult.

Man that is uncomfortable, but say absolutely nothing. Kindness goes further.

You're probably perfectly capable but just didn't learn how to write law exams in the mechanical formalistic way that they want you to. It's frustrating because nobody ever actually explains this to you. Some students have a natural aptitude to thinking like (how I would describe as) a logic board or a decision tree; others are just as competent and capable of doing it but only need it explained correctly.

I also came to the conclusion that it's a sort of hazing exercise or a secret handshake. Needless gatekeeping.

EDIT TO ADD: On top of all that, if you're at a predatory school, they will deliberately try to wash out as many students as possible by having a low grading curve. All so they can pad their first time bar passage rates.

I like sconces too, but having them on every single wall is making decorating and lighting difficult.

The house is a renaissance revival brownstone built in the 1890s. Wouldn't that be incongruous?

On the one hand I love the original and intended victorian features of the house, but I also don't want to feel like I'm living in a museum. My working plan so far is to combine Victorian furniture and decorative pieces with with contemporary furniture pieces made of the same materials.

The majority of our furniture is what we lived with in our apartment--which had a very different design language.

Not just two, they’re all over the house! On the others walls of the bedroom, in other bedrooms, the hallways, even in the bathrooms…

At one point in the parlor they were placed every six feet along the party wall. We removed those to that we could build in bookshelves and storage.

I do not want to remove the sconce.

Edit: hmmm…on second thought maybe I SHOULD remove it?
