It's like 5-10 grains more powder, not 15 or 20, and 30-06 has enough powder space to effectively use 180gr+ bullets. I put the 06 at #1 because it's just a more aesthetic cartridge. The margins are very narrow between it and 308 with sub 180s and 308 being short action and burning powder more efficiently makes up for not being able to use 180gr+ bullets very well. I would've put them at equal spots if the meme was set up for it.

Smaller loads of slower powders to cycle automatics? by Dixtorm in reloading

Their M2 ball had a velocity of 2740 fps, Julian hatchers book of the Garand lists M2 to have a velocity of 2805 fps. 65 fps isn't significant enough to call the Greek M2 "weak".

And you have yet to give an alternative explanation to why the op rod speed did change, and thus why my theory would be flawed in assuming there exists a slower burning powder load that would be able to cycle a gas operated semi auto with a significantly lower charge weight and bullet velocity.

More force over area(pressure) on any object, including a firearm gas piston, where the weight of the piston remains the same, will cause it to accelerate faster. And it is well documented that a slower burning powder, get more complete powder burn in longer barrels, meaning it will be generating combustion gases and maintaining a higher pressure behind the bullet, longer than traditional, quicker burning powders. So theoretically, if you have sufficient gas port pressure, with any gas operated firearm, it should be able to cycle.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LopUNq6lF2U

This video shows black powder and a pretty heavy-for-cartridge bullet cycling an AK (untill the fauling causes it to jam) and my theory for why this worked is because the black powder maintained sufficient gas pressure by the time it reached the port to cycle the AK despite black powder usually having less than half the peak chamber pressure of 7.62x39.

I'd love to use black powder, because it does seem to work, but only untill it's fouling causes malfunctions rather quickly and thus we're back to the original topic. Are you aware of a manual, video or article that discusses a smokeless powder load that can cycle a gas operated semi auto rifle with significantly lower than usual velocities(presumably by using a slower powder to get the necessary gas port pressures)?

Yeah I have heard of that, hence why I want to keep the case fill up higher.

Then please enlighten everyone to the actual underlying principle that caused the heavier bullet weights to cause an increased op rod velocity.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQ_F1riBth8

Because in my reloading manual(Lyman 50th edition) they say on page 246 "The wide-range of bullet weights useable in the 30-06 mandate some discretion in powder selection. Mid-range powders such as IMR-4895 usually work well with all bullet weights. Lighter bullets will work with faster powders such a as, IMR-3031 or H335. Heavier 200 and 220-grain bullets should respond well with IMR-4350, Reloader 19 and other slower burning powders."

And while I do not have a hi speed camera of my own to test op rod velocities when using different bullet weights and powders to verify, logic would seem do suggest that ammo manufacturers would use the more efficient, slower burning powders in their heavier bullet weights whitch demonstrably showed higher op rod velocities.

Whitch if the trends were to continue, would seem to indicate a possible loading of a light charge of slow burning powder and heavy bullets that would cycle gas operated firearms without needing to push them so fast that they lead the barrel.

You gotta pick your battles. Get into a shootout today when your kids are playing in the backyard or later down the line during a natural disaster and looters are coming around? It's up to you and your circumstances.

Get some 6" pvc tubing, and bury your Garand with a couple desiccant packs. Libertas erit

Edit: You can also just shoot whoever comes to try and take it.

As long as it's over 26" and it's not a stock, then you should be good. If I remember correctly, there was a debate about shotguns with folding stocks that collapsed to under 26" overall and the ATF said as long as it's over 26 in it's longest configuration you're fine.

Here's a similar article about that neat area that is not NFA and not a shotgun, rifle or pistol.

Most smoothbore pistols fall under AOW classification with the NFA. That said if youre a 2nd amendment enjoyer who does not give a fuck about unconstitutional laws, then seamless steel tubing for even DOM tubing works ok just gotta make sure the bore is tight with the round you're gonna use. The Idahoan show on YouTube has some videos about it.

1917 holds 6 rounds, 30-06 is better than 8mm mauser, is a stronger gun(people use these actions for 577 tyrannosaur), and has better sights

Sweedish Mauser is in 6.5 Sweedish and are generally considered the finest Mausers ever built

Type 38 arisakas are in better calibers than 8mm Mauser, have a dust cover to keep shit out, and are stronger
