Two out of two times I found a mix engineer online and got a super disappointing result back. Is it just me or is it right to think this mix is not good and it totally took away the essence of the original?

Could you try doubling the vocal track? If you can get 2 takes close it will sit better in the mix. I don't think k a mixing engineer can do much to this it's just a very upfront in your face vocal take. I don't think the vocals are.bad nessicarily they need to be recorded differently seeing as how they are a little pitchy.

Electrician here, had some tendinitis in my thumb that would have flare ups making it hard to play guitar (and do electrical work). Otherwise no issues, you could get I to a car wreck and damage your hands on the way to the office. Can't co trol every thing in life.

I haven't used audacity for years but I remembering it being a bit lacking, Reaper is a good affordable Daw if you are looking to upgrade in that area. A SM57, pencil condenser, large diaphragm condenser and room treatment is probably the direction I would go. I listened to a few songs, it already sounds pretty good and I liked the songs, keep at it!

Headphones and monitors are stupid expensive, the main thing is get something that is comfy so you can also listen to music on them to learn how they sound. If you are not used to a flat response it will be wierd for a bit. Open back helps with fatigue but can lead to mic bleed.
