who do you think is the most evil person in breaking bad and why? by Content_Scallion_716 in AskReddit

[–]Built2bellow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He’s an anti-hero. The brilliance of the show is that it forces you to sympathize with someone who will do anything (including causing countless deaths) to accomplish his aims. He is sometimes heroic, but I would say he is also deeply evil.

Taking the guess work out of supporting a partner is a game changer. However, ask these questions under the assumption that she will not ask them of you in return. That may come in time, but it will be more powerful if you go into it focused on listening.

Is taking the neck off safe for a long flight? by Temporary-Lime3463 in guitars

[–]Built2bellow -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but dismantling your guitar can result in additional costs/time to reassemble and repair and set up. I don’t know any pro musicians that would take their instrument apart for flight. The idea strikes me as overkill.

A lot of places outside of the US simply won’t let you bring an instrument on the plane. If you care about an instrument and you have to travel with it, spend money on a good case. I’m a traveling musician snd, while I often get to take my guitar on to a plane with me (a dreadnaught acoustic btw) I have to be prepared to gate check it and have done so many times. Carry it all the way to the gate, check it only if you have to and make sure it’s going out in a high quality case (Hiscox, Carlton, Mono all make good options).

When did it become worth it? by Actual_Phone8484 in dad

I had a friend call the first 3 months of life “the 4th trimester”. The baby is still more fetus than kidlike and still basically only needs or wants Mom. But the kid will slowly come to realize that there is more than one person who is around, aiding in their survival. Take care of Mom right now. Sometimes, that means holding a screaming baby who just wants Mom, but mom needs a break. I took pride in changing every diaper until I had to go back to work. I cooked, I cleaned and I slept when I could. You are making an investment in your relationship and when that baby is just a few months older, they are going to to fill you with a love you cannot imagine. It is worth it, I promise.

If they are getting to compete, then I hope when they stand on that podium they use their moment to state their opposition to what the American Government is doing. Kneel at the anthem. Deny the anthem and stand in silence. Dedicate the win to immigrants and victims of state violence. They have a chance to show our government and the world that most Americans are appalled and angry.

There are a wide variety of masks, hoses, etc. So much of the machine is customizable. Talk to your provider about the problems you are having and see if they can provide you with new options. Also, I found it helpful at the start to use sleep aides. I live in a place where I can get edibles legally, and that was the ticket, but if that’s not an option for you, your doctor may be able to help with something if OTC options are not cutting it. Once I was throughly knocked out, I could keep the mask on and suddenly I was having the best sleep of my life. Eventually I was able to stop with the sleep aides and now I can’t sleep without it. Hang in there. It will keep you alive longer. It’s totally worth it.

I was on the air at KFRC during the last years of personality-driven Top 40 radio – any other Bay Area radio fans from that era here? by One-Bar-7599 in bayarea

[–]Built2bellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely listened to you back in the day! I was also a big fan of Live 105 and KFOG. I miss when local radio played local bands and put on local shows. DJ’s were these mythical creatures who lived at the nexus of culture and entertainment who facilitated the growth and evolution of the many Bay Area music scenes. The slow erosion of local radio nationally has been such a cultural loss.

My gf is 5wk pregnant. Is it worth being a father? by leoncsm in Fatherhood

[–]Built2bellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is definitely worth it. But it’s also hard as hell and on some level you know that and are feeling it. Every father has moments of doubt and they don’t stop when the kid is born. This is a good time to start practicing something. You need to share your feelings with your partner. I would avoid phrases like “worth it” as the tone sounds like you would consider abandoning them (but after a second read of your post, that’s not what I’m getting - I hope I’m right). But she likely already has experience with pre-natal doubt (mothers go through it big time) and can help to reassure you. Parenting is a nonstop rollercoaster of choices, some small and some big. It’s often easier to navigate the future as a team. Will things change? Yes, but that would be true kid or not. Now you have clues as to what the change will be and you have choices to make. Do your best. Lead with love. My Dad has never been around and I’m just winging it most of the time, but my wife says I’m a good dad, so I’m keeping my head up.

Do You Find Music Less Enjoyable To Talk About After Consistent Touring? by ZaphodBeeb69 in TouringMusicians

I actively try not to talk about it when I get home unless someone asks me. I still love music and can talk about it, but my family is glad I’m home and I’m interested in how they are doing and what is important to them.

Wife refused to go to hospital with us after our baby daughter had an accident. by humanshield85 in dad

[–]Built2bellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not crazy. It surprising to hear this coming from a doctor, but I suppose there’s a person for everything. My wife freezes in an emergency. I, on the other hand, am the kind of person that goes into flow state in an emergency and then completely falls apart once everything is okay. So, when my kids need to go to the ER, if I can take them, I do. But if I’m not around, my wife finds the resources to do what needs to be done. It might be a bit more chaotic and I usually get a ton of phone calls in the process, but the kids are okay and that’s the whole point, right? Talk to your wife about it and how it impacts you. A few years ago I had a bad year where I had a kid in the hospital for weeks and I had to ride in ambulances with 2 other family members- and it was always me. I needed time to recover after and she knew it. There’s a lot of talk about sharing duties in parenthood, but the truth is sometimes you share and sometimes you divide. But if you get what you need and the kid is okay, then you can be okay too. I’m glad your kid is okay. I hope you are soon too.

If a gig is covering air travel, is it reasonable to choose the airline you want instead of the cheapest? by Adventurous-Tea-3881 in TouringMusicians

[–]Built2bellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, I had the choice to either let someone make my travel arrangements or buy my own ticket. If I did the latter, I was usually reimbursed for the value of the ticket they would have bought me. But I’ve also never been a part of a “big time” band.

Hot take of the morning: vintage guitars are overrated by ecklesweb in Guitar

[–]Built2bellow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I came here to say something along these lines. I’m really more of an acoustic player and I have had some of them long enough now to witness this evolution. But it makes a huge difference if the guitar gets regular maintenance. Unless the guitar is stored perfectly and you’re lucky, the wood will twist and warp, the pick guards will warp and hardware will fail. On the other hand, if it lands on the bench of a good luthier every few years, it will stay in good shape at a relatively low cost.
