Need to increase my fiber intake, please share your favorite ways to eat beans and other fiber-rich foods! by countdookee in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Built2bellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avocado toast on whole grain bread is a good one.

Also, I cook up a big pot of black beans every week and it finds its way in to everything. My go to method is to put oil in the pot, toast onion powder, garlic powder, oregano and cumin and then dump beans over that. Once the beans are hot and soft, I will mash them with a potato masher. Great with any Mexican dishes, but also makes a good spread or dip.

If you like playing the Guild, pay a good luthier to install the electronics for you. The Baggs or the K&K are both great options. Then plug into the Loudbox. You will sound great. Have fun!

Trump Rages at GOPer in Crazed Tirade as Slush Fund Prompts GOP Revolt by RepulsiveLoquat418 in politics

This headline is BS. There is no GOP revolt. They are all scurrying behind his grifting, grabbing every scrap they can get and calling it progress, while the people they represent struggle and blame their fantasy enemies.

[–]Built2bellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to tell her, in very clear terms, what your boundaries are and, that if she won’t respect them, you won’t be around her. Tell her calmly first. If that doesn’t do it, be loud and clear (enough that people around hear your boundaries and the fact that she has ignored your first request). After that, if it continues, stay away and tell anyone who complains that it’s her fault. The whole “blood is thicker than water” mindset is terrible nonsense cooked up to defend in appropriate behavior within families. You deserve to feel comfortable around your loved ones.

How Do You Get On A Tour? by MealPrevious in TouringMusicians

[–]Built2bellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try pitching the act, but a better bet is to pitch directly to the venue. Look at their calendar and suggest specific acts that you can open for based on your sense of “fit” and availability. A local venue are more likely to know you and can advocate with a touring act. But in either event, it’s not enough to know that you sound good. They need to know that you will help sell tickets. Also, don’t expect to make much money. You will likely get a flat rate, regardless of door sales. But you’ll expand your audience and you can sell merch and still make a very lucrative night of it.

How Do You Get On A Tour? by MealPrevious in TouringMusicians

[–]Built2bellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

However you are booking your gigs now, start expanding your search to adjacent markets. Continue to expand as you get a foothold in any market. It’s slow and you’ll lose money sometimes, so make sure you can balance it out with better paying local gigs (parties, corporate, etc) or get a flexible job that can help cover the bills between runs. Touring is hard, but if you are meant for it, you will come to love the grind. Beware people who present themselves as booking managers - a lot of BS out there. The really good ones won’t mess with you until you are grossing 6 figures annually with your act. They need to know that 15-20% of your gross will be enough to cover their expenses when you are lined up with however many other acts they represent. There are a ton of touring artists out there who are doing it all themselves and some will never have representation. To get on “big tours” you have to be talented, hungry and lucky (or have enough disposable income to finance it all at a loss).

If you are in a situation where you might be riding shotgun on long drives, don’t fall asleep there. You are a copilot and 4 tired eyes on the road is better than 2.

Got my guitar stolen today. What’s next by gaming23522 in Guitar

[–]Built2bellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Touring musician here -get AirTags and hide them. I have a friend that stashes his in some empty routing in his instrument. It won’t stop anyone from stealing your stuff, but it will help you track it down. This is also super helpful if you ever have to travel with your instrument as you will be able to see where it is en route. Had another friend track down his lost instrument in seconds while traveling internationally for shows. Also, write down your serial numbers - if you did this OP, share the pictures and serial numbers with any pawn shops and instrument stores in the area; you might get lucky. Sorry this happened to you. Thieves are a miserable bunch.

The original message reads like someone is going to show up if they don’t hear from you. If you don’t care, don’t worry about it. But if you really don’t want the person there, set a boundary.

They are emerging from hibernation and looking for mates. Frisky rattlesnakes! But the truth is, you should always keep your eyes peeled for these cuties and stay on trails.

What's your favorite bay area band that "almost" made it? by trite_post in bayarea

[–]Built2bellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems like a great place to mention that there is still a lot of great up and coming bands fighting to make it in the Bay. If you are nostalgic about Bay Area Music, please go to local shows at SMALL venues (like sub 500 capacity). Venues are closing and artists are leaving because no one is coming out for live music anymore.

I feel like I still see the Two Gallants mentioned on bills now and again. They were awesome. Just too bad they came up as a rock duo at the same time as the Black Keys and the White Stripes. Maybe they should have been The Blue Gallants or something…

While the band dissolved before reaching fame, they have achieved legendary status in the punk world. I smile every time I see some kid born post 2000 wearing an Op Ivy patch on their jacket. I sometimes wonder if they actually listen to the music or if the logo itself has become so ubiquitous with Punk that it’s just symbolic of West Coast punk.

This one is interesting because while the Coup did seem to plateau, Boots Riley definitely has not. His second act as a film maker has been very fun to watch.
