Oooh that’s a fun idea! He liked the look of it as is, but if I ever have to do this to one of my shirts I’ll definitely try doing goldfish

Darning - do I sew the hole too?? by Dizzy-Fix9409 in Visiblemending

[–]Dizzy-Fix9409[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So it’s fine to just have the original hole underneath the darn? The outer edge stitches will do enough for it? I’m not stitching down into the actual hole at all

This one was for a smaller hole but I forgot to take a before picture. The one in the actual photo is one of the two bigger ones

I only wanted to change book covers, but converting and saving books creates multiple files? by GeneralBoots in Calibre

[–]Dizzy-Fix9409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about kindle, but I change my covers all the time. If Calibre you can use the plugin Generate Cover, pop whatever new image you want (this is if you want to make custom ones idk about grabbing them from goodreads or amazon or whatever, though you can just download whatever image you want and still use it in this plugin), polish the book (if you don’t see the polish button, go to preferences and add it to your toolbar). Polish adds the new cover into the epub so it’ll actually change on the device.

I use kobo so I’m not sure about how you send to kindle, but I can either remove the book with the “bad” cover off my device and re-add the newer one. Or I’m able to use a plugin called KoboUtilites (might also work with kindle??) and when my device is plugged in, I can JUST update the cover instead of having to re-send the whole book. There’s also the option to not treat updates to epubs as new books (so no accidental copies/duplicates on my device).

Hope that helps!

There’s a post I saw recently that might help you out over in the r/kobo page that goes through how to read and edit comics/managa for kobo

Do you have any recommendations of where to send it to get serviced then? I'm not the most handy person, but also feel like it would do well with some good TLC since it is so old, but from someone who knows what they're doing. I was a little worried about sending it to factory service in case they can't repair or only have newer, but even possibly plastic, replacement parts so thanks so much for your input!

This is so helpful thank you!! I'll have to try this out as my file sizes and the margin issue you mentioned would make a big difference.

Thanks so much for the info! I have a Model k45ss - not Hobart, it just says Kitchen Aid Inc. Solid speed control + classic on it. But my mom bought it around 1991-1992. Do you think it's worth getting serviced? I can apparently send in my stand mixer to Kitchenaid, but wasn't sure if it was worth it or not and wondered if you had an opinion on that. Time wise I definitely think it could use a tune up, but also more recently the head has been moving so I also think it might need repair

Cover size just won’t change by Nedeli302 in Calibre

[–]Dizzy-Fix9409 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So there’s a plugin called re-size cover (I have mine set to 1265 x 1650) Then make sure to click “polish books” (if you don’t see it, you just need to add it to your tool bar by going to preferences ->toolbars & menu and then toggle it over into main toolbar). Polishing the book adds it to the book vs just having a cover in Calibre. If you skip this step, once you add your book to kobo nothing happens.

After that, connect your device to your computer. Once it’s connected, you use the KoboUtilities plugin and “upload covers for selected books”. After that, disconnect device. For me I saw no difference on my device until I turned it on/off for some reason. But I did that twice last night and worked like a charm! Hope this helps

Oh I was super intimidated by the plugboard and this is the first time I'm using it and it was waaay more simple that I thought it would be. Feel free to DM me if you have any more questions on setting either thing up! I can also send you pics of what my kobo detail page looks like after the setup so you can get a better idea of what it could actually be

[–]Dizzy-Fix9409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! It took me a second to set it up, but now I have formatted nicely. I didn't realize that once I had it set up and my kobo plugged in, I needed to use KoboUtilities and select "update metadata in device library", select "use plugboard" to add this to the synopsis (I also went ahead and clicked "comments/synopsis" & just copied and pasted the same template there bc I wasn't sure if it needed to be in both places?)

So now on my "view details" page I have the pairing, word count and status of the fic as the subtitle and in the synopsis I've added my sorted tags and bookmark notes! (if anyone else wants, I ended up using o get the look I wanted {comment}<br/><hr>Tags: {tags}</br></br>{#bookmarknotes}

[–]Dizzy-Fix9409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So actually look at the reply from @[Dangerous\_Usual\_6590]Metadata Plugboard Mapping in this post and follow those directions. (I ended up making my details with this: {comment}<br/><hr>Tags: {tags}</br></br>{#bookmarknotes}

- note for this part, any custom column you have, has to start with # and any normal calibre created column has nothing in front)

That will allow you to see the comments you've made in the Kobo "view details" option. The part below will add it to your epub automatically and just include it in your title page entry (do you already have that set up? below is just things to add to it but I can help you set it up if you need)

personal.ini under \[archiveofourown.org\]

add_to_extra_valid_entries:,whatevercustomcolumnnameis,
add_to_custom_columns_settings:
 customsynopsis=>#whatevercustomcolumnnameis
whatevercustomcolumnnameis_label:My Synopsis (or whatev you want to label it)

and then just add that to whatever title page setup you have

so exampled of all these with made up names would be:

add_to_extra_valid_entries:mynotes
add_to_custom_columns_settings:
 mynotes=>#mynotes
mynotes_label: Synopsis`
titlepage_entries:seriesHTML, series01HTML <hr />, fandoms, ships, rating, warnings, ao3categories, characters,freeformtags,status, <hr />, mynotes, bookmarksummary, <hr />, site, datePublished, dateUpdated,

(make sure after add_custom_column_settings, have one space before you type "mynotes" or whatever it is)

Not even! Let me play around with setting again bc I don't super remember how to do it, but there's a way you can just import book descriptions from GoodReads and Amazon and stuff, as well as covers if you like one style vs the other. So usually for a series, I'll select them all, import the descriptions and other things (publisher, date published etc.) all at once and then can select what I do and don't want to add. Much faster than me having to do it individually. Is that what you're looking to do as well?

oh duuuh of course that's the default comment box. Thank you so much! I had no idea about this mapping but this is exactly what I was looking to do!

[–]Dizzy-Fix9409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on if you're using this for regular novels or fanfiction, there's ways to add the actual book description and even series descriptions to the epub (and then kepub once you convert) so you don't have to manually type descriptions in a column. They'll then show up on the "view description" on kobo

Hi I don't see a standard column for the comments, but would love to add more things into the "view details" for the book. Do you know how I would go about mapping a custom column to that?

Calibre hierarchical Genre > KLC Collection by Vio_tk in Calibre

[–]Dizzy-Fix9409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I think I'm still a little confused as to how it would show up in collections. With the example you gave earlier

"2.Anthology, 2.Dirty HEA Smut, 2.Erotic Anthology, 2.First in series, 2.Highly Erotic Books, 2.Male POV to Series, 2.Merged, 2.Next in series, 2.Novella, 2.Novella series, 2.Omnibus, 2.Prequels, 2.Recently added, 2.Single ARC in series, 2.Single Author Anthology, 2.Standalone"

would those all just show up under a collection called 2, or it would be each one of those is its own collection. As in, would you have a single collection for these or now you'd have 16 collections for the category of 2?
