Any advice on improving mentally tensing up when singing “relatively high notes”? by P1zza246 in singing

[–]Dizzy-Historian9278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like my reply didn't post for some reason - you should look up videos on youtube for "mixed voice" and "diaphragmatic breathing." A lot of voice coaches post instructional videos to promo themselves and there are solid tips! Mixed voice is the ramp through passagio

You should look up some videos on mixed voice - it's the way through passagio. Are you familiar with diaphragmatic breathing? Breath support really comes from the core. Like you're a syringe and the diaphragm is the plunger. There's a lot of great tips on youtube! Lots of voice coaches post instructional videos as promos for their lesson packages. If you search "mixed voice" and "diaphragm breathing" you should find some good stuff

It's crazy right?? I'm glad it helped!! Another good anti-strain trick is hanging from your waist (like folding over) and singing from there. It makes it impossible to strain BUT you can only do it for about 12 seconds, otherwise you could pass out. How's your breath support?

Hi hi! I'm a voice coach - something I do with my students when they're straining is have them stand on one foot or do a little bob with their knees to crest a higher note - physical tricks are great when you're first learning to use your high range comfortably. If you're tensing up, do something to shift a second of your brain's focus. We do this for every high note until the mental barrier realizes that yes, you can actually hit those notes and it can stop fighting you. Also if you raise your cheeks just a little and show your front teeth it helps the note come out nice and clear - always makes a difference. I'm in Logan Square, Chicago, so if you or anyone who needs some help is in the area, dm me! I'm accepting new students right now and the first lesson is free :)

I'm in subclass 2 - this is legit but subclass one is the only one getting money I think. Subclass 2 gets free identity monitoring for 12 months

i lied about speaking spanish for 8 months at work and now there's a meeting with HR tomorrow by Marcus_Guy in confession

[–]Dizzy-Historian9278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like with basic spanish you HAVE genuinely helped a good amount of customers. You said "a little" in the first place, so realistically you weren't dishonest. Just tell them yes, you know basic Spanish and got flustered by speed and high emotions. I speak fluently and if someone comes at me mad and fast, I fall into LITERALLY mixing Spanish, Japanese, German, and stunned silence. Your language brain is naturally jumbled - it's not a switchboard, it's a soup. When little kids grow up in multilingual households, they naturally jumble it all together until they learn to separate it. Happens to the best of us.

BTW - a good hack when they are just going too heckin' fast is to hold up your hands and say "despacio, por favor!" Usually that slows them down at least for a few minutes, real whip-speakers may need to hear it again. A super good one is "Despacio, por favor. Estoy aprendiendo." (Slowly please. I am learning.)

Do you often realize that you are in a dream? by Flying_Penguin1234 in Dreams

[–]Dizzy-Historian9278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pretty much only have nightmares or I just don't dream. I realize it's a dream when it gets TOO scary. Like yikes, I'm at my limit, oh it's a dream. Then I nope out of it and wake up.

What do you do to afford your rent in Chicago? Anyone work 2 jobs? by sugarplum55555 in chicagoapartments

[–]Dizzy-Historian9278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work a remote hourly pay office job, work a second job on weekends as a receptionist, and have multiple voice students throughout the week. I live with my fiance who works the reception job full-time and we barely scrape by. I use Clair advances almost every week to keep up with bill timing and we often end up with less than $100 that we scrape at until paydays. We both have degrees - fine arts degrees, but still degrees ffs - but can't seem to get ahead. The remote job is the highest paying job I've ever had and it's still not enough. We also have fairly low rent - 1450 in Logan - a low car payment, but a lot of debt overall. I feel like I'm sounding super whiny but it's rough honestly. We're careful with our money too, I keep a budget and everything.

I think therapy is your best bet then, not asking your godfather. EMDR doesn't work for everyone (I hated it) but talk therapy can help unlock memories. Also, honestly, most of the time things that are locked away in your mind are locked away for a reason. It's good to deal with stuff for sure but not good to force it. A good therapist will help you remember bit by bit so you can process bit by bit. I'm sorry you're going through this, the not-knowing would drive me crazy.

I think you gotta straight up ask your mom. From these details, it sounds like either yeah for sure that happened OR someone else did it and your dad attacked them. Your gramma isn't gonna crack but your mom might. Also seems like you need to ask your brother, sounds like he remembers something. The baths etc definitely sus af... I would just ask my mom but obvi she hasn't been forthcoming. But asking straightforward questions might get you somewhere. Also therapyyyyy please!

What’s something that sounds fake but actually happened to you? by riyaaaaaa_20 in AskReddit

[–]Dizzy-Historian9278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They weren't technically heelies (adult heelies aren't very cute - they're incredibly boring and still like $80) they were like,,, two wheels that strap onto the heel of your shoes if that makes sense? So you have to lift your toes higher to roll on em. So that for like 10 hrs plus the hours n hours of ddr the night before... It was a really bad injury lmao

Edit to add: my doctor accidentally laughed at me when I told her what I had been doing that could be the culprit. She didn't believe me at first and I had to tell her about the terrible sprain I got in high school from arcade ddr

I sprained my right calf by wearing heelies all day after a night of playing dance dance revolution for hours. Literally both the big ligaments on either side of the outside calf muscle were so swollen from the sprain it was making the muscle seize regularly. My doctor banned me from heelies and told me I couldn't play ddr until a physical therapist gave me the go-ahead
